If you really like Ace Attorney style games, this will scratch that itch. However, I just didn't really enjoy it myself, for a few reasons: - the English translation is pretty bad, and one character's name is sometimes displayed with Chinese characters and sometimes with English ones, which is confusing - A lot of questions in the trials are on a short timer, which is stressful and means I had to do a lot of loading saves - I felt like the game slogged on and did not respect the player's time, I was super ready for the game to wrap up and then there was a section where you had to investigate with four different detectives separately, which felt like a waste of time So I did not enjoy it, but others might!

I seldom post reviews for games on Steam, but I feel Trials of Innocence more than deserves the praise. The game is obviously very much inspired by Ace Attorney in its core formula to deliver its story, but I won't diminish it by brandishing the discriminatory 'clone' label; it very much stands on its own by offering a quite smartly written story, memorable, endearing characters, and also a very competent soundtrack. To anyone that has appreciated Ace Attorney, you should give this game a try.
The game has a very poor English translation so if that is a dealbreaker, don't buy. You can still try a very generous demo to see for yourself. Otherwise it's a fun visual novel detective game much like Ace Attorney. It's not as good as Phoenix Wright but there aren't many games like this so I was happy to spend time with it.
I'm sorry to say, but I cannot recommend Trials of Innocence. I've written an entire comprehensive review of why Case 1 was bad enough to advise against buying the game, which you can read here if you want: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3743193760 But for a short(er) summary: The localisation is really bad and makes everything look incredibly amateurish. So is the writing, which doesn't take the time to actually prove anything the main character brings up, but just automatically assumes it's true. The mystery doesn't take any time to set anything up, reveals just come out of nowhere, the character drama is the most desperate I've ever seen a game try to make you care about a character by giving them an arbitrary sad backstory. It's been a while since I've seen a murder mystery as incompetent as this, and honestly, I kind of love it. Not because it's even remotely good, but because it's genuinely impressive to ♥♥♥♥ up in so many different ways so thoroughly. It has a bit of that "so bad it's good" quality to it. I'm probably going to finish this game, even if it frustrates me, since I want to see just how low it can go. I know that it's harder for a small team to bring out something truly amazing, but even including that in my judgement, Trials of Innocence is disappointing. If you want an Ace Attorney-like made by a smaller studio, go check out Tyrion Cuthbert: Attorney of the Arcane. Hell, if you want an Ace Attorney-like made by a Chinese studio, go check out Murders on the Yangtze River. I have my problems with both of those games, but they are so much better than this. I'm not saying this to hate on the developers or anything. I'd still rather this game exist than it didn't. Even in its current state, I would sooner recommend this game than any AI 'game', because even with all of its faults, at least Trials of Innocence has a soul.
