About

Trenches VR puts you in the boots of a World War I soldier trapped behind enemy lines. In this claustrophobic nightmare, fight for your life — and your sanity — as you navigate the horrors of war. Your only goal is to return to your family. Your only tools is an old trench whistle and your instincts to survive.
Warning: This game contains disturbing imagery, intense jump scares, and psychological horror not suitable for all players. Play at your own risk.
Enemies can hear your voice, breathing, and every move that you make through your microphone. Stay quiet, stay hidden… or they’ll find you. Collect clues, uncover the truth, and use your whistle to guide your way - but beware, every sound could give away your position.
Insanity: Just because you passed somewhere already, does not mean that there is nothing there. The environment may change with your sanity.
Repeatability: Experience may change for each player. Fog type, some parts of the environment, jump-scares and objectives location will be randomized on each play-through.
Plan Accordingly: Plan your next move as it may be your last. Peak around corners, watch your footsteps as some wooden floors creak, and be always on the move.
Microphone Input: Enemy can listen and hear your microphone, screams and sounds. Make sure to not scream.
Mark Walls: With the chalk you find in the trenches, leave your mark on the walls—your drawings will guide you when you’re lost.

While I could recommend this to new vr players that wanna get into horror, I cannot recommend this currently as is to the average vr enthusiast. Pros: -Great setting/environment not usually explored(trench fear) -sound reactive monster(you'll need to turn this all the way up,) -optimized Cons: -same repetitive jumpscares(yes they work, but im not really punished hard enough for reacting and its easy to ignore). -none of the tools I needed to use, all i used was the whistle, not one time I needed the gun, the knife itself was probably the only other useful tool -monster is easy to run from, make them faster or give us a sprint meter bar -too easy to hide from monster -monster sometimes would lose tracking of you completely even if your running on wood. A big one for me, but I could just keep blowing the whistle to not only trick the monster to loop, but find all the dolls relatively quickly, no gun or distraction required. I think this has great foundation that could be improved with the following: -give us a stamina meter that can exhaust, this will enable true pressure from the monster(also make the faster). Also give us a toggle option for sprint(the index controller users will thank you). -dark mode (lantern that can be put out after some time, must find lanterns to be able to see a bit further). -make the bottles drinkable to restore stamina(and throwable still to stun monster for a brief second). -hidden objective (and secret ending) for finding the creepy dolls -rework the jumpscares...current feels about the same as if I just put a png billboard jumpscare. -use more audio ques from monster to let player know they are on to them -after three whistle blows in a row, the monster can track you for a long duration(to prevent whistle spamming). I will change my review based on future update, will be keeping an eye out!
Quite the spookfest. The game's horror is really well done. It's often quite dark and rainy but I really like the atmosphere. Do be careful if you are specifically afraid of bugs/insects, they are very prominent and they got me good tbh T_T. The performance and optimization is really good. I had a brief freeze at start up, but after that was done, the game ran really well, having perfectly stable FPS the entire time.
Experienced on the HP Reverb G2 using the Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my gameplay & impressions here: https://youtu.be/4XnJXO4L3yI I actually played the non-VR experience before I had ever heard they were doing a VR port. I had some technical issues with the non-VR version, so I wasn't able to compare then. However, I can say that the VR port seems to be working without any issues. My only complaint is the lack of a button crouch. The game itself is not exactly ground-breaking, but it does what it does well. I think this game just works better in VR. It's basically hide & seek. The game makes very good use of spatial audio, where it's not exactly pinpoint accurate, but gives you enough information to be able to make some decisions. I actually really like the audio in this game, except for some of the jump scares being too loud. I think the biggest weakpoint of this game is that at some points, there are too many jumpscares and they can be quite loud. I would highly recommend lowering the volume, although sound is important in figuring out where the baby dolls are that you need to find, but also where the enemy might be. I think the audio mix is perfect, it just needs to be not as loud. I think the hand gun is also pretty useless. I think it should stun the enemy a bit more. I'd like to see a better inventory system as well. However, it works. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 5090, I was getting a steady 90 fps (big surprise). You can play comfortably seated (needs button crouch though). You have full locomotion / teleportation / smooth turning / snap turning / comfort vignette. This game scared the hell out of me… The sound and environment design are incredibly well done and keep the tension high throughout. Highly recommended!
Schaut selbst rein! LG HundelungeVR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B43A6uLSFeM&t
Trenches VR combines a stealth and horror jump scares experience. You need to escape while a monster moving through the area. If the monster sees you, it will start running after you, which most likely lead for it capturing you, but not always. The game is designed well with various mechanics to help you out, like hidden areas, bottle you can throw to distract the monster, and so on. Also another cool mechanics is that the game uses the microphone, and if you speak or breath heavily, the monster can hear it and go after you. The level is designed as a maze and items are scattered in various locations, with a "NG+" randomizing the items location. The sound design is very good. The game look OK, but I was disappointed in that aspect considering it's a PC VR game. I liked the fact they made the monster tall with tenticles so you can see it behind the big walls. Overall, it's a well made horror experience that will keep you on your toes with well made mechanics to create a fun experience in VR.
