About
Demonic possessions are increasing all over the land. You are a priest being trained by the church to perform exorcisms. Equipped with your Exorcism Book and a case of Holy Relics you are sent to aid the afflicted population.
The land is being overwhelmed by evil. In each chapter of the story you will travel to a different village, and it is your duty as an exorcist to cast all demons out.

Your Abbey is the only holy refuge for the villages around it. Each village will present different scenarios and possessed villagers. Exorcising the possessed is your main task, but animals and the land itself are also being corrupted. You will have to handle all of them.
Unique events can reward you with powerful relics that once belonged to saints and martyrs.
Your book contains information about all demons and demonic signs manifested by the possessed. Find the page that matches the current demonic sign and select the correct holy relic to counter the demon's actions.
As you gain experience, you will know the book by heart and will truly feel as a bona fide exorcist.

You will be equipped with six holy relics: Crucifix, Blessed Candles, Holy Water, Anointing Oil, Incense and Salt. Each relic has a unique minigame that you must complete to counter a demonic sign.
As you travel to different locations, you may find new relics that can have a decisive impact on the outcome of minigames.
After liberating a village from evil, its inhabitants will give you offerings as a token of their gratitude. These offerings can be used to upgrade your relics, giving you an ever increasing advantage against the demons.
Not all exorcisms will end successfully and some souls will be lost. The amount of lost souls and your choices will determine what kind of ending you will get.

Awesome game. Saint Benedict pray for us. Saint Nicholas pray for us.

Hands down one of the best games I've played recently. I love the addition of actual Latin prayers for the Mother Superior, and the small minigames to fight the demons somehow felt like actually failing/saving people. The final sequence was pretty straightforward but still fun with the added pressure. I've gotten 2 of the ending and WILL be coming back to get the others :)
You guys should be very very proud of yourselves. The atmosphere you created, the wonderful short story, the intensity feel of doing and exorcism. And one thing I have to say that really stood out, the sound design was amazing, knocking some way more expensive games out of the park. One minor gripe I had was the discipline section, I do feel it could've been mixed up with some words of reflections or maybe at some point allow us to skip cause it got a little repetitive. But overall, I am very impressed with the game, it may seem simple on the outside, but the world building, story, characters, atmosphere. And I've played Faith don't get me wrong. This is on par with it in terms of feeling like an exorcist. Can't wait to see more from you guys. Wonderful work!!
Really enjoyed this. It is very sincere in the way it presents exorcism which I appreciated. Obvious comparisons will be made to Faith and that's fair, but I definitely feel like this has it's own thing which I found fun and endearing. I'll definitely being going for all the endings.
I loved this game and would be excited to see any future content for it perhaps in a DLC.
Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?

"my uber dropped me on the wrong sinful planet, ffs" - the angel, probably Religious horror is tricky; it straddles a complex line between the sacred mythos of an entire culture, and the tropes found within a whole genre of entertainment. Ritus Exorcismus is a horror game that subverts the simplicity of its premise by providing in-depth gameplay mechanics centred around what would, in theory, be simple minigames. There's a real sense of "ludonarrative dissonance" (the belief that gameplay and story should mesh) with the minigames, as - to use an example - if you're performing a simple hand sign prompt and have to put the prompt in as quickly as possible, it's a method of expelling the demon. I think what's strikingly effective and almost unexpected about Ritus Exorcismus is the art direction: What is largely a retro-looking game with 90s-looking graphics, evolves into something visually stunning with cutscenes that strike in an art style reminiscent of that the time period (which is largely renaissance-inspired). I think what's most intriguing about this game is that it follows both religious apocryphal texts, research into Benedictine practices (including self-flagellation which is reaaaal brutal), and demonologist literature, which creates an interesting, albeit fairly black and white narrative (us vs them/light vs dark). Exploring themes of existential dread, religious crises, and the very concept of identity juxtaposed with religion creates a narrative which feels very grounded, but still unsettling enough to create a memorable horror game. I think other than a couple of bugs here and there regarding movement and the like, and some parts that may have just about missed the proofreader (understandable, not the original language), Ritus Exorcismus feels like a thoughtful, albeit simultaneously slightly shallow exploration of the horrific evil of demonic possession and the moral panic that spread through the middle ages. 8/10
