This is extremely similar to conquest of the new world. I'd swear its the same game engine. Ok I loved that other game, still have it, still play it, it runs in Dosbox. This has a few differences, and over all seems to be fun. The Draw backs are lack of being being to customize the game. I Finally had a good start in a game, getting somewhere, and poof the end game screen summery comes up. No reason for that, should be able to play much further into the game. Few annoying things, clearing out menus that come up, have to hit the little x or esc. Cannot just click off on the background screen. Steep learning curve, but fun. The random events are a bit extreme. Given how limited the production lines are, having tornadoes wipe out your warehouse you just spend an hour building, sucks. The Building roads thing, needs work. Your standing outside of city that makes tools, and instead it wants tools from a city far away, Bogus. All in all its fun, but needs some polish to make the play experience smoother, interface is still a little clunky.
Love this little gem of a game, it gives me strong Imperialism 2 vibes. Worth every cent.
Like some1 else on here mentioned : "it wouldn't open even when it said it was open" Even though the game is only 5 bucks, I still refunded. Don't sell games that don't work.
overall quite fun
This game doesnt even start.
While I appreciate the attempt to make an interesting spin on the original 1994 Colonization, I just couldn't get into this one. It seems to me that the attempts at making the experience more realistic actually end up making the game much less fun to play. The UI is mediocre at best, and the tutorial and in-game encyclopaedia are very barebones - don't even attempt to play this one without reading through the Steam guide, as it plays quite different from Colonization. An example of how the attempt at realism hurts the game's playability is that journeys from and to Europe take a very long time, as you must sail for several turns, right to the eastern edge of the map, before your ship sets off. Apparently, due to the supplies mechanic (not present in Colonization), if you're unlucky, you can actually lose your first ship before it even reaches the New World, as it can run out of supplies before even reaching land! Nonetheless, my ship managed to cover the arduous journey to New World and even find a what seemed to be a great starting spot - a small but uninhabited island with room for around three decent colonies as well as ore for making tools and muskets later on. Then, just as I was starting to set up my first tiny colony, it got hit by a series of natural disasters, and my king introduced several tax hikes in quick succession just after I got my first meagre cargo to Europe - a truly brutal difficulty spike which did not occur in the original game even on the hardest difficulty. All this happened before my ship even returned from Europe for the first time! Then the game crashed, and I decided that it just wasn't for me. I'll stick to Freecol.
Its like Sid Meiers Colonization remade but done in a bad way. Please make it better and i'll give you a better rating.
