Immediately after buying this game I realize how good game it was but after 20 hours I realized is more complex than it seems and it requires some certain time to understand how it actually functions. I have spent around 160 hours trying to get all achievements and man, I had enough. I can tell that Transport Fever (the game after this) is 10 times better and has better mechanics than this particular game. I don't suggest buying this game and instead you get Transport Fever since while it could not be a bad game, almost for the same price you could get something better and you won't feel disappointed after some couple hours of playing. On the other hand, man this game has some sticky soundtrack I almost went insane finding goods production chains and passenger optimized lines lmao. 7/10
Pretty close to finishing this 100% I don't recommend playing this game since Transport Fever 2 is out (play it instead), but if you're curious about Urban Games' first game you will see how much has changed (in a positive way). It's serviceable and still playable and fun at times. This game pretty much shows how urban games just grown over time
I had this in my library for a while, I can't remember how I got it. I tried it once long ago and didn't really get in to it but now recently I gave it another try and kind of aligned with it's chill play style. I always was of fan of miniature train models and landscapes... this is a lot cheaper! And I adore the Swiss rail cars. The developer is Swiss, I've been to Switzerland and Germany, and this game has a lot I can personally connect to. I wasn't sure if this is from the same developer of the Transport Fever series, but is certainly is and I'm delighted to see that the third installment of that is in the works. If you want to see where Transport Fever all started, and maybe introduce yourself to the play style in a FAFO sandbox type way, this is it. It's a decade+ old game that was the initial release of a now successful series, so you can expect some little hiccups here and there and things that will make you say "that could be improved." Well, it probably has. You can focus on the trucks. You can focus on the trains. You can build big or build small. The vehicles are a joy to see come in to production and learn about that history. I heard they are not including the 1850s - 1900s period in Transport Fever 3, and while that kind of disappoints me, it does make sense if they are dealing with maritime vessels and aircraft. The in-game tutorials are very basic and you might need to look at some guides to better understand the mechanics, but I recommend the game more if you are the type that likes to figure things out yourself. That is where the replay value is here. In that way, it does kind of really fit in to the city-builder category. TL;DR explore the history of Swiss and American train and highway transport with this chill tycoon/city-builder game that made the foundation for a great series of games still in development
If you want to buy this game - don't. I decided to try it because I liked Transport Fever and wanted to see how the previous game from its developers fared. Well, Train Fever can be considered just basically an alpha version of Transport Fever. And yes, despite the name, it is not just about trains. Yes, I didn't play much at all. But here are some problems that made me unwilling to give the game a chance: 1. No tutorial. Just a couple of text windows explaining the basic controls. If you really want to learn how to play without stumbling blindly and making guesses, you have to resort to Steam guides. Which is already bad. But what is worse, the game does not look like something that warrants such investment of time and effort. 2. Not campaign. Just random maps. Firstly, this means there is no slow and steady introduction of game mechanics, easing you into the game. Then again, it's not there are many interesting game mechanics in the first place, and those that exist look very shallow. Secondly, this means the game does not really progress over time, meaning no new mechanics to learn and challenges to overcome. Once you learn the basics, you will be doing the same things over and over. 3. Shallow and primitive mechanics. The game has extremely low number of different resources to transport and very short production chains. This adds to the aforementioned problem of doing the same things over and over. 4. The game UI is very bad in relaying the necessary information. Combined with absence of tutorial, this makes it pain in the butt to learn how to play. Ultimately, the combination of shallow and simplistic mechanics and the game's unwillingness to help me to learn it made me completely uninterested in playing it. I could give a chance to a simple game that is easy to learn. And might be willing to put an effort in learning a game with complex and interesting mechanics. But I see no reason to waste my time on a game that does not have anything interesting to offer in exchange for my time and effort.
It's not a new game since it's from 2014 but still fun to play, even tho if you're new to these type of games then try out Transport Fever 2 instead :) have fun gaming
BLUF: if you're tempted to pick this up on sale for $1.99, just get Transport Fever for $4.49 instead. This has been sitting in my library unplayed for years, though I played and enjoyed the first Transport Fever. I picked it up for a while just to say I completed one game, and it's (maybe predictably) an inferior version of its sequel in just about every way. More of the challenge comes from how obtuse it is than by design. The bones of a great game are there but the need for the QOL improvements made in the sequels is painfully obvious. I'm glad that the series has gone on to bigger and better things, but only the most avid fans looking to experience its whole history will need to bother with this installment.
I Played Train Fever for 11 Minutes
Ta gra. To jedna wielka porażka. Brak Samouczka. Brak intuicyjności. Brak jakichkolwiek sensownych podpowiedzi w trakcie gry.
