The idea for a game is pretty cool. Have to admit the game got me hooked during the prologue segment. The parkour seems pretty decent for a AA game. Sadly after completing the prologue I've seen the whole game pretty much. Levels don't lead to one another ;It seems like the developer came up with some level ideas and randomly put them together. There is some story line with artifacts and stuff , but it's pretty generic/boring. The whole point of the game is to get to the portal at the end of each level after getting an artifact. That's it. The gunplay compared to the parkour (which was quite decent as I said) feels extremely junk , not impactful and just not fun. Enemies with a shotgun can sometimes kill you with one shell , because why not , right? The optimalization is horrible. The game shouldn't be that laggy and hardware demanding with how it looks. The biggest downside so far is the length/ price ratio. It took me below 3 hours to finish the game. For 14 euro I was expecting something more than 6 or 7 levels. It feels like a tech demo rather than a full game. They said there will be more levels in the future , however it doesn't justify the fact that the price is way too high for what we got. I completely avoided collecting all the points and looking for secret rooms or killing most of the enemies as it's really boring and repetetive. If not for the movement there would be nothing to do in the game, I've been looking for the full release for some years. Wishlisted the game as soon as the trailer dropped and have to say I am more than disapointed.
This game looked really intriguing but its extremely parkour heavy and my parkour skills were not strong enough to get me far into the game. If you are up to the challenge however, this will definitely keeps you engaged. Nice gameplay, graphics and soundtrack.
Trails of the Black Sun равняется самоубийству. Trails of the Black Sun. Палец вверх, но it's to close к пальцу вниз.
This game....well...this game is nothing but a ctrl+c of assasin´s creed´s animus aesthetics and Mirror's edge motion animation. Your enemies are templars. You are surrounded by this strange text that you can see in any AC game. Every scenario looks like a place from an AC game. And the movement, the movement ohh...the sweet good movement i'll tell you my problem with it..okay so firstly every parkour movement seems very similar, too much similar to ME's. The wallrun, slide, safety land, swing, the way you move through the ledges, jesus...every parkour animation is somehow same as mirror's edge's parkour animation. Ah yes almost forgot, theres this eh thing when you takedown an enemy, just like in every Splinter Cell that lets you kill automatically three enemies, maybe its just me but this game has some things that are copied from other games. Or maybe I am just overthinking it
This is a nice parkour game with combat in it. Until now I have played the first 4 levels, and there was enough variation in gameplay. Great work. Here is my gameplay video: https://youtu.be/Ymv4lpVtrAo
Nice gameplay and graphics, cool soundtrack too, would love to see it on youtube.
I'm a big fan of Assassin's Creed and Mirror's Edge. Visually, the game plays out entirely in the "Animus transition" of Assassin's Creed with the red markers of Mirror's Edge. I really enjoyed that part of the game. Gameplay wise, the Templars are bullet sponges and you really need to land head shots to take them down and even that didn't always work. Be aware of that before playing. Upgrading your character will help somewhat. The second training simulator is brutal. Since the game has been out, the longest video walkthrough I could find on YouTube stopped at this level. I soldiered on to the bitter end of the game. Why the game gets my thumbs down is this - It's not a complete game. The story is about finding 7 relics to release the Queen. Instead, two training missions and three relics later we decide to "wing it" and just try to free her anyways. When you do it's "To Be Continued" with more levels to come later! Sorry, it's Early Release. It's not a full game. There have been titles that have skirted on the Early Release program. One that I know of, for example, which was released with a "To Be Continued" like ending with still 2 chapters left after release. Almost 3 years later, 3 YEARS, and level 4 of 5 is coming out. That's just not right. If you are going to publish a game you release a complete game. If you want to charge more for DLC levels, fine. Paying for a whole game but only receiving part of it with the "hope" of completion is called "Early Release". That's the big negative I have to leave with the review. When the game is "complete" I'll come back and change my review of it. Gameplay time is roughly 3 hours. Add the extra hour for mostly all the fails in the second training simulation. LOL!!
Follow our curators page Climbers-Germany if you like this review or like to play more movement based games
Trails of the Black Sun is a parkour platformer with shooting elements in it. While the game itself has inspiration from games like Tron / Assassin's Creed (computer simulation) or Mirrors Edge (colored highlighted obstacles) it builds a story on its own. The games main goal is to find the artefact in the simulated level, which can be high up or somewhere in the map behind some mechanics (doors). For for the actual gameplay: Wallrunning is mostly a piece of cake other mechanics needs just one button press. So nothing where you really need to train your skills to master the game. On Level 3 where sliding got introduced to the player, when you are failing it. The moving cubes are getting out of sync and there is no escape in failing this particular part over and over, which was quite disappointing at one point. After a break and a good amount of coffee we had over come that problem. While we finished the whole game, this was onliest problem we had been encountered during our playthru for the movement. Mean while the game increased from the shooting difficulty on the second level, because of the hit prediction. Where bullets where not hitting the enemey, while they were hitting you all the time. This was just a small set back to get the player adjusted in playstyle. After all was settle and the change in playstyle, we could finish the game. Since the game is setup being a simulation, the overall asthetic style of the game(menu, level design and effects) are fitting directly to it. Level simulations are decoded directly from serveral textblocks which gives you as a player an immersion to be in a simulation or using somekind of simulation device. For explorers the game uses some sort of skilling mechanic. You can find points over the whole level and you can seek for secrets to find more points. With the points you can buy upgrades for your weapons or upgrade your suite with colors, armor or points multiply factor. Sound effects and music had been used in a good way to build up the style of the simulation. We could still play the game longer since we haven't found all the secrets in the levels but overall the game felt pretty short. But seeing the Credits, short is not really accurate. Since it was developed by one person. Its not the perfect game and some would say, copied ideas from Mirrors Edge or Tron / Assassin's Creed. In the end its not. Rebel Graphix used an idea / theme in their own way instead of copying a game. Which was kind of refreshing. Would we recommend the game? Sure if you like movement type games or parkour games, you should test it. If it is really something for you? Its up to you! The parkour and visual elements of the game are striking. The levels are action-packed and varied enough and the combat system is quite nice. What definitely stood out to me was the parkour and movement. Very pleasing and satisfactory. Recommend!
