Touhou Hero of Ice Fairy

Very surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. I believe this can be a nice "introduction" to all those who want to try out bullet hells. art is nice, fights are solid, very helpful practice mode if you're looking for a no hit run. You should get it.

Great game. Normally I don't like 2D sidescroller bullet hell game but the developers had a lot of good ideas that made the bosses feel quite fair and unique. As of this review I've done true ending but not no-hit true ending (two bosses left). Game also has a lot of good art/animation and solid music, although perhaps the touhous are a little oversexualized. I played on wine on MacOS and the game worked perfectly although sometime getting my controller recognized was a little challenge on first load.

For the main game, took 4 hours. Wasn't too hard, was engaging in the story cutscenes and plot point. Took a few more hours due to the hitless achievements. Then a few more on the full achievements. Artwork is pretty good. You can cheese out phases by using spellcards that give you invincibility. So that's one way of getting hitless easier. Played with a controller, that might've been a better experience with some aim assist option on. OST is especially good for the true final boss, and the boss that came before it. The story is a "story being told", anymore will go into spoiler territory. Haven't bought the DLC, probably won't. the base game gave me "enough" enjoyment through its boss danmaku design and artwork. There is a "rougelike" mode, though its just a "boss rush" reskin if do inspect it lightly. Thank goodness they don't force achievements nor dialogue for no hit pacifist.

Seriously my favorite fan game ever. The gameplay is fantastic, the loadout system is amazing and allows for great customization, the story is top notch, and it is quite challenging in a good way! I do have a few gripes, but nothing major (mostly one fight that was really annoying, and a personal gripe with "true endings"). It's pretty cheap to, so I'd highly recommend it to other people.

Fun game, good art style, and absolutely phenomenal soundtrack. If you don't want to play it, at least give the OST a listen on Youtube. I especially recommend the first DLC's OST, K.O.I. OVERDOSE. To You, My Love Rings True activated me like a sleeper agent when I heard that Snow Halation riff.

its a nice game but the dash mechanic feels too op sometimes since it gives u immiunity for way too long. it also has a lot of fanservice which makes it hard to recommend to younger people. overall im satisfied with my purchase though, and i might buy the DLCs too.
