finally the last modern Apogee game after playing wizordium and turbo overkill was this game gonna be another boomer shooter type ? hahaahhhaha no. Total chaos first of all is a horror game through and through The atmosphere is probably my favorite part. It has this BioShock-ish feeling to it, except if BioShock leaned way harder into horror. Exploring the abandoned mining colony and going through places like the arcade, police station, streets, hotel, apartments, etc. was genuinely creepy, and the environments are really well done.
The hotel section in particular was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ brutal. There are these SCP-173 type unkillable enemies where you basically have to keep looking at them or you're dead, and having multiple of them around at once made that whole section incredibly stressful.
Gameplay-wise, I kept getting Cry of Fear vibes, which I mean as a compliment. The monsters, the atmosphere, the general feeling of being completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and having to scrape together whatever you can find all reminded me of it. The big difference is that Total Chaos has a pretty cool crafting system. You can find weapon parts, blueprints, materials, compounds, etc. and use workbenches to make different weapons and syringes. The compound system is especially neat since you can make different mixtures that give you buffs with different drawbacks. The monsters are also scary. They're not just generic zombies —hey're proper ♥♥♥♥♥♥-up monsters, and some of them can be genuinely terrifying when you first encounter them.
im looking at you SCP 173 type monster
The story was pretty good too. I'm not going to spoil anything, but I really liked the ambiguity surrounding everything. I still don't even know exactly how much of what you're seeing is supposed to be taken literally,
just like in cry of fear
and I think that's part of what makes it work. There are also two endings and quite a bit of hidden side content, so I can definitely see myself doing another playthrough at some point. Unfortunately I got the bad ending on my first run, but honestly, I still had a really good time. Overall, if you like Cry of Fear, BioShock, atmospheric horror, or just horror games that actually make you uncomfortable, I'd definitely recommend giving this a shot. Really good game. Glad I played it.

really really good survival horror
HIDDEN GEM & MUST PLAY for fans of authentic survival horror who crave tension, secret‑hunting, tight resource management, and a haunting story that unfolds slowly but grips you until the end.
Seriously, this is easily one of the best horror games I’ve ever touched. 10/10.
