Wow this is hard. So I played the demo and thought - yeah I could get into this. Rolled my first char - Arcane, spent 16 hours wandering around the town and the first two easy access areas and saw a gate blocked by two guards. Killed about 4 mobs - learned a lot about crafting. Saved and thought lets try something else. Second roll - Rogue. Made first big new discovery
The guards guarding the 3rd gate aren't really guarding the gate at all
and ended up finding a something else to follow. The hard part of the game is really (at least at the start) working out the basics and it is so much fun not to know. I didn't know for the first 10 or so hours that
The shift key shows the item stats
which I discovered by actually reading the loading screen help. Unlike most RPG games, actually reading the dialog is important. It is so easy to end up fighting someone because you ignored a message that says "(Angry) He really doesn't want to talk about it". Is it relayable? Hell yes - my three demo chars and my two non-demo ones play completely differently and have "somehow" chosen different endings to even the most basic quests
Kill the pig, ignore the pig, befriend the pig
Crafting rewards patience and also Shopping and Looting are debuffs so avoid combat straight after selling you loot. Overall this has some brilliant touches and characters that have a personality and problems of their own.
I'm not much of a review writer, so I'm not going to do an in-depth analysis, but 150+ hours in I've become completely addicted to this game. As advertised, it's old school in the larger sense of its design and flow, but it has elements and specifics that are entirely unique. It is difficult at first to figure out how some things work, so you do what pretty much all old school RPG'rs did: play for a while, figure out how things work, then start a new game for real. There's a huge demo that can serve that purpose for you. This is not one of those games with 40 hours of cut scenes and an onscreen arrow pointing you to what you need to do next, where flashy graphics (that sometimes even work) substitute for game play. You will get quests that you will not be able to solve until well into the game, and you'll have to stop and think about where you need to go and who you need to talk to. If you want a game that holds your hand and points you to every answer, this is not for you. If you want to solve things on your own, can handle some frustration and you value the game over flash, I think this is a great game for you.
Not much to add to the other reviews out there. It's quite possible you'll hate this game, but you'll probably know that very quickly from the demo. If it's not for you, move on. If it's the kind of game you like, you'll probably get sucked in... I certainly did. There is a lot going on here, and a lot to investigate. Very little hand-holding on resolving the multiple intersecting story lines: the hints may be subtle in a conversation you glossed over, or said by somebody seemingly unrelated to what you're chasing down. Completing things (both the story and the various achievement quest lines) becomes more satisfying, though. There were a few glitches along the way, but the developer is VERY responsive, often posting patches the same day in response to Steam comments or emails. I can't recommend them highly enough: I've never encountered a dev so devoted to their game and the players.
As you can see I have played this for 30 hours. I will probably try it again in the future but it is very frustrating. #1 Battles last forever. I had one battle last 1+ hours. So if you don't have the time don't start the game. #2 There is much to do but you will find you cannot do 2/3s of it based on starting character. #3 It is an old school RPG be prepared. I will probably get back to this game in the future but for right now it's shelved. (Changed to recommend.) I make no claims in knowing how to play this game but it did draw me back to try again. So now up to 40 hrs played. Will not change my comments above as that is what I am finding. I will review my play based on the answer below but as of now I do not see how I am doing something wrong.
quite hard at the begining but when you finally get a party member and get your main skill up enough (recommend get four as fast as possible and a boost stat) stuff get a bit more fun to to play. the best thing with the game is it writing which actually suprise me with how things go. they clearly tried to be unique even with fetch quest. i have hardly begin even with 40 hours lol. only been to next town and two areas three dungeons. the dungeons is probably the most fun and the loot is extremly tasty when you hit the jackpot.
I'll try to write a more detailed review once I've finished, but this is one of those games that hides an insane amount of depth & rewards you for pushing through to find it. Worth the cost of admission so far.
I recommend this game since i have enjoyed greatly. I just say a few things about the game for you to decide if this game is for you or not: - instead of the usual combat rpg oriented, this game is oriented to exploration, conversation and questing - there is combat but instead of you controling the combat actions, each turn you say to the chars how they should fight and they fight on their own. it is different and it works for this game, you just have to decide if it is good for you or not. - the quests are very varied: some easy, some average but not a few are hard, in fact sometimes it may feel a bit like a point and click adventure plus a rpg - if you love a rpg for the feeling of exploration and of discovering new areas and stuff, this game will resonate with you, if you are a minmaxer of skills and stats then maybe not so much - the game not only does not hold your hand, it literally kicks you in the a**e and throws you in a pile of ****, so the start may feel hard and unforgiving - the graphics are 3d and while not ugly if you expect top notch graphics this game is not for you. Graphics are similar to what would be a modern version of wizardry8 but they serve the purpose. There is a demo if you want to try it, the only thing that i can say is that for a single developer game, the feeling of the game is unique in this age and it has been great playing it.

I am having old school fun.
Exploration, conversations, questing, humour. Drink a lot of potions. Steal a lot of stuff. Use scrolls, rotten hands and trumpets to buff up. Then kick goblin's ass
