7/10 - enjoyable story Total 7 hours, with collecting 500 lights. its a mystery, story driven puzzle VR. the Good, Nice voice over, narration of story not great at start, but once inside the mansion the visuals are great. puzzles are easy, a bit repetition, but enjoyable. (Quest 3 w/ VD Streamer, works well) the Bad, the Controls on movement, in meta Quest. even after rebinding, 'walking' is frustration. the Ugly, heavy PhysX can result stutter, even a game crash. (in 7800x3d, rtx 4090). Collecting remaining lights was waste of time. (none story wise, was only a steam achievement) Overall, nice VR experience. At current cheap sale price, it's a steal, grab it!
Torn is a VR game that has you exploring an old abandoned mansion, trying to piece together what an old scientist was working on there. You get a little anti-gravity tool that lets you pick up items and move them around. Most of the gameplay involves picking up the right item and putting it in the right place. It's kind of repeats itself after your first learn what to do, but you are constantly opening up new rooms to explore so it keeps it fresh. Great voice acting. The graphics and environments are well done, particularly for what is now a seven year old VR game. The story twist at the end is dumb, but that didn't keep me from enjoying most of the game.
I was not expecting a lot from this game to be honest, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is a good puzzle game. The story started a bit slow. I found the main character a bit annoying during the first part of the game, but as the story progressed, I found myself more invested in the characters and the story. I do think that the controls could have been reworked a bit for the walking. You can only walk forward and backwards, and not sideways. Usually I like to use joysticks for walking, but when you can't strafe left and right, it becomes very awkward. I ended up using the teleportation movements for this game.
I loved it. It's a graphically beautiful game with an interesting story. The ending is definitely a twist, but the lead up to it will have you suspecting things like crazy. It's very imaginative and well done. I played it on a quest 3, and there is one glaring issue that I noticed. If you play via Virtual Desktop, the game reverses your hands. You can still play, but it's frustratingly distracting. So I tried playing via Steam Link, and that fixed the hands issue. In Steam Link the game defaults to a low resolution, but that's easily fixed in the settings. Other than that it's been pretty much smooth sailing. Since it was designed for Vive controls, it's a little finicky. You have to push down the joystic to move, and use the trigger to move faster, but this is an old game, so I guess the controls are just archaeic, but still playable. This is definitely a good game, and needs more love.
I bought this game at 90% off, and wow - what a deal! Honestly, it's worth the regular price - with some minor caveats. The controls are not good on Quest controllers, but I think remapping could fix that (I didn’t attempt that). And it's sort of a one-and-done game (I got all achievements in my single play-through). Those quibbles aside, this is a gorgeous game. Lots of Easter Eggs for the final plot twist if you pay attention (but I highly doubt you’ll ever guess the ending). The graphics are good, and so is the voice acting. The music is perfect. The puzzles are not too challenging, but it is still fun just to learn the story. Any PCVR enthusiast should have this game in their collection, and at the current price (still 90% off as of this review), you can’t go wrong. If you like orchestral music, grab the soundtrack with it.
Luckily, I paid very little for this game as part of a Humble bundle. The game launches and I can start a game, look around, and take a few steps, and then it invariably crashes and returns to Steam VR. Reading Reddit and the Steam community forums, I'm not the only one with this problem. I reported it to the developer and they gathered some files, but essentially fobbed me off and don't appear interested in fixing it at all. Not recommended.
Just played this again...is it perfect no, but its aged okay. graphic wise its decent enough to enjoy... controls aren't perfect but they aren't that bad for a relaxing puzzle game. used quest 3, with meta link to play the game on steam.
