It’s a cute game, and the controls are fine, but I cannot recommend it if you’re hoping the shelves are labelled for certain products. Everything has to be arranged freely, which is frustrating because of misplacements or lack of space. I spent an hour on the 1st, super easy level trying to re-sort it. Thankfully someone posted a brief guide in the discussions on where the items should go, and I was able to finish it then. I cannot fathom doing the others, so I have decided to refund it. (Sorry devs) The game was intentionally designed this way, and I don't think they plan on changing it, which I can respect, but it isn't for me. Not at all satisfying, relaxing, or even fun.
Tidy Mart is a cozy organization game where you restore order to various retail environments, ranging from tiny corner shops to massive supermarkets. Your task is to take products that are spawned in a massive pile at the center of the room at the start of the level and neatly arrange them on shelves. You can carry multiple items in a basket, and each level introduces a new helpful ability, such as highlighting all unplaced products matching the item you are currently holding or a magnet ability that pulls all items of that type as long as they fit into your basket. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792205266 At launch, the game was designed with the idea of "free placement" in mind, meaning that you could theoretically place products anywhere, as long as each shelf contained only one type of item. In practice, though, this was a frustrating design flaw that prevented levels from being completed even when everything was perfectly organized. The game secretly expected a specific placement configuration (certain products on specific shelves, for example, bigger cans on bottom shelves) but offered zero hints on how to achieve that, plus this placement was inconsistent across levels. Players were left guessing how to fit items onto shelves of varying sizes. Imagine meticulously spending hours placing thousands of products, only to find the level won't complete, with no easy way to swap shelf contents and no clue what the game actually wants from you. Unsurprisingly, this led to massive, well-justified backlash from the community, but fortunately, the developers listened. An update released on August 24 completely overhauled this mechanic by adding clear labels to the shelves, showing you exactly where items belong. For those who still prefer the old, trial-and-error approach, the original "free placement" mode remains accessible from the levels map. Additionally, a frustrating bug that caused products to spawn outside the level boundaries, essentially blocking level completion and further game progress for many players, also appears to have been resolved in this same update. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792205163 Despite its rough launch, Tidy Mart is now in a fairly stable state, though some noticeable issues linger. For one, placing two different products of the same type on one shelf often bugs out, since the game fails to recognize edge or middle spots as valid placement points. The only current workaround is removing all products and placing them once again, in order, from one side to the other, which becomes tedious when dealing with dozens of items already placed on that shelf. Even after the labels update, there are still many other issues to fix, such as incorrect labels or wrong quantities. Furthermore, some products are almost identical, with only their brand being slightly different, making it difficult to know exactly which product goes where, despite the new labeling system. The game currently features 5 levels, ranging from 500 to 15000 products, which makes the latter levels extremely tedious and unnecessarily long. The basket size makes the gameplay in these levels even worse, as its capacity is not only extremely small but also highly inconsistent. For example, you might be able to pick up 16 bottles of oil or wine, but only 5 small packages of chips or 2 little cans of biscuits. Some products, like fruits, veggies, or meat, are often limited to just 1 per basket. This means you have to run back and forth through the whole store dozens of times just to place these items on their corresponding racks. While these new abilities are very useful outside of these cases, their cooldown is pretty horrendous (around 1 minute), which makes you wait a long time until you can use them again. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3792205213 This back-and-forth becomes especially frustrating in the last level in particular. It features a rather messy arrangement where the same product is spread over several different racks in different corners of the shop. Other racks contain shelves with mixed products that don't necessarily fit together, or at least it's not something you would ever see in a real supermarket. To make matters worse in this fifth level, not all products even have dedicated space on the shelves. You are forced to use really wacky workarounds, such as stacking meat over the designed amount just to make some space to fit in 2 boxes of cheese, which is necessary so that you can fit some extra wine bottles (that seem to be erroneously spawned and do not have a designated shelf) where the cheese was supposed to be placed. The developers' swift updates moved the game much closer to the relaxing experience it was meant to be. However, the remaining number of issues (both technical and design-related) prevent me from recommending the game in its current state. Given time, I expect these to be ironed out, finally delivering that satisfying tidy-up feeling. On the plus side, the game is fairly affordable. Honestly, I don't dislike this game, I just don't think its for me. I really prefer having shelf labels/categorized groups of shelves. In the very first level I was constantly shifting around the items so that everything was with its proper category (all the candy/snacks together, pet food together, etc.) just to have to shift it again because then I didn't have enough room for the other category. Its really unsatisfying for me to have the categories mix - its like if in the librarian game, it didn't matter what genre of books were on the same bookshelf. You could mix math books, romance books, magic books, etc. all in the same area. Maybe then you try fitting all the math books on one, just to realize the bookshelf you picked isn't big enough to accommodate all the series of books in that category. If having the categories mix doesn't bother you, I would still recommend this! I just don't think it's relaxing to me personally.
I really wanted to like this one because I love the idea of cleaning and sorting smaller shops and gradually working your way up to bigger ones. Unfortunately, I was disappointed almost as soon as I started. You’re immediately greeted with empty shelves, but the game doesn’t really tell you where the items are supposed to go or which products belong in specific sections. It just left me thinking, “Ugh, where am I even supposed to put all this?” I can imagine that becoming even more frustrating and tedious the further you progress. Another thing that annoyed me was that when you pick up more than one item, a basket appears in your hands and blocks part of your view, making it harder to see and pick up products. There are so many games on the market doing this kind of thing now, so I’m not going to waste my time on one that feels like this. Honestly, it feels rushed which is a shame because the concept itself had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, I’ll be refunding this one.
I would love to give this a good review, but at this point i still can not. I love the idea with the signs that is really good, but on the other hand i am not willing to put stuff into shelves just to take everything out at the end because the items doesn't fit. If this is a bug i will not continue this game until this got fixed, i am sorry. All in all it is a good game, but these things annoy the hell out of me and it stops being chill and cozy alltogether for me. once this is getting fixed i will pick up the game and might be willing to give a good review but not how it is now.
I actually prefer the freeform nature of being able to put items wherever they will fit. It makes it more of a puzzle. I like the graphics, and while the controls can feel a little clunky, I think they're fine. However, I cannot recommend this game because as I played levels three and four, they both have very basic glitches that make it impossible to finish the levels. In level four, two dozen items spawned under the floor and I cannot pick them up to put them on the shelves. That feels like it signals that the game was not truly finished and ready for release. I regret that I spent money on a game that I cannot play, and until the devs fix these problems I don't think others should spend money to experience the same disappointment that I'm feeling right now. I'll be happy to revise this review if the devs fix these issues.
OK! So this game is cute. I love the music, I love the art, I love the idea of it. It's clearly been made with a lot of love. However, I wouldn't say it's relaxing. The game doesn't give you any hints as to where to place things - so as such I've finished the first level with three items which I have no idea where to place because my shelves etc are full - so I'm going to have to rejig it all again xD
First of all, the graphics are sooo cute. I wasn’t really a fan of the style in the other Tidy games, but I really like this one. Gameplay is pretty chill too, there’s no rush or anything. You can basically put whatever item you want on whatever shelf you want. Sometimes stuff just doesn’t fit on a shelf, so you kinda figure out that it probably belongs somewhere else. Overall, I really liked it. Would be even cooler if they added more different skills.
