Game features AI art and it isn't disclosed anywhere in the store page. EDIT: I can appreciate that there was effort that was actually put into the 3D models and design overall that segment of it displays. However, the addition of AI-generated images on the walls is such that they detract from the work. Instead of helping create the horror atmosphere, the images are jarring and out of place. Since they don't seem to be related to puzzles or the story, the players don't know whether or not to inspect them, which isn't immersive it's distracting. It feels like filler. You've had all your 20+ years as artists and could have created or commissioned original artwork. It makes me think shortcuts have been taken, and makes one wonder what other AI uses there are in the game. I get that this is your initial Steam release, but with AI within games becoming increasingly prevalent, withholding it initially damages trust even if unintended.
Care begins as a simple story. You are called to be a caretaker for an elderly patient who needs immediate help. On a stormy night, you arrive at a creepy mansion to begin your new job. Jefferson is a bed-ridden elderly man who is helpless, lonely and afraid. You go through a series of fetch errands (get him water, food, medicine, etc.) and then events take an unexpected turn. There are things that go bump in the walls and your patient begs you to investigate. He controls your access within the house by providing you with keys that open areas, as they are needed to accomplish tasks. The game world consists of two environments. Above ground, you have a beautiful multi-room mansion with gardens to explore. Midway through the game, a portal can be opened to enter another world that is filled with blood, guts, and mutilated creatures. While the house conveys an aura of hidden dangers, the other world is explicitly corrupt and life-threatening. I recognize that a lot of time and effort have been invested in Care. You are treated to a pixelated, but highly detailed 3D environment. The manor is luxurious, with artwork, family photos, and hunting trophies. The power is unreliable, so lights flicker and dim. The soundtrack consists of music and noises that create an atmosphere of menace and dread. The game auto-saves at regular intervals and each checkpoint is available to reload. This is handy because some achievements are triggered by making a mistake and dying before the story is finished. Players may die often, but that appears to be a part of the experience. For me, Care started out fun but then became a bit of a grind. While the art and sound are well done, the English translation of the dialog was rife with errors. There is also an energy indicator that limits your ability to run. This means that moving across the landscape is unnecessarily slow. The absence of light creates a spooky mood, but it makes it very hard to explore. For some players, this adds to the challenge of a game. For me, the answer was to increase the brightness so I could navigate effectively. The story did not grab my attention and a long chase towards the end was the straw that broke this camel’s back. My patience wore thin as I watched the same death scene over and over and over. Finally, I made it and ended up dying in a new way. Sigh… Completionists are apt to be frustrated by this game. At least one achievement requires information from outside of the game environment and, in the absence of hints or descriptions, you will need to keep replaying, making different choices and hoping for the best. Despite my own neutral feelings, Care is not a bad game. If you are a fan of titles with horror and survival elements and are willing to overlook the lack of polish, then this game may be just right for you.
по-началу она напоминала мне mother (и рисовкой, и заданиями), позже no one lives under the lighthouse.
Wow..
Devs, if you are reading this, redo the creepy clearly AI art things that appear in the 2nd half - they are so obviously AI and really take you out of what the rest of the game is, which is a really damn solid horror that REALLY had me invested. I am a huge fan of what you made, the world and sound design is great, there's a lot of things I wasn't expecting too. For anyone curious, there's no jumpscares either.
Care perfectly embodies the feeling of closing the lights off before heading upstairs. Its setting and atmosphere are deeply deeply unsettling, borderline haunting. Presentation and audio design are excellent, creating an extremely immersive experience. I absolutely loved the implementation of the retro FMV point-and-click style animations. Dynamic item puzzles almost feel more akin to that of an immersive sim, with different possibilities possibilities and outcomes. Care is s-care-y as hell, a perfectly executed immersive horror experience.
Ai Imagery really killed this game for me, I understand that most of the game is actually crafted by people, and that the devs express they felt the need to use it because of the small team size, but to me that is no excuse, if you are going to use generative ai to any degree the end result should be free, also the game has been out for over a year now, im sure with the profits from the games sales they could commission a real artist to replace these ai images, I am aware they disclosed the use of ai in the description, but i did not see that before purchasing the game. I am glad they disclosed it, but that does not warrant charging 10 dollars for a product not entirely original.
! Geheimtipp !
Bought this game to play with my little sister, who is training as a nurse in Germany. We both enjoyed it very much.
