A definite recommend. I haven't been this engaged with a new game for quite a while. I initially thought the balance was questionable, but that is only the newbie phase. Once you learn the ins and outs of the game, the balance is actually quite good overall. Pros: -Game attempts to step outside of the generic fantasy enemies. There are some very unique designs. -The weakness system works really well. In most games it is a system kind of ignored, but here there is a lot of incentive to try and find and exploit weaknesses on enemies. -The roguelike random elements are also done well. For example, it is beneficial to have a healer, but any class can get access to heals so you aren't locked into a very specific set of classes every run. I had a run where my healer was a high dex vampire ninja. Cons: -The skill system is unintuitive and messy. Chances are you'll beat the game before you understand all the aspects of it. None of the skills have numbers attached to them, so it is a bit of a guessing game of what a skill is doing. -If you aren't interested in repeated runs with or without difficulty modifiers (think climbing ascensions in Slay the Spire) then the game is short-ish. You'll probably faceplant a few times, but chances are you'll "beat" the game in 10-20 hours depending on success rates. However, if you do like repeated runs, there is potential a ton of hours here.
I felt like it was appropriate to write a review of the game after beating it, so that I could ensure I was engaging with the entire experience and it felt doable. I find this game charming and fun. I have had many laughs playing this game and find the mechanics of it all engaging and interesting. I have not played many games in this genre, but I really enjoy the wacky monsters, the awesome abilities, the funny team mates, and the snappy gameplay. The randomness of the game really makes a whole run exciting to excel in. And of course, getting the dog is always a huge win. This is one of the best games I've played this year!
So far they are really capturing that old school feel in the play, finding random spots that get you various things is how it felt back in the ol M&M days. Graphic style is interesting , we'll see how it wears over time.. But yeah so far really loving the play mechanics and upgrading skills, Ill update this again later sometime. The Bad: One of the other things they brought over from the old gaming styles is no clue where to go, for me thats something that ruins a gaming experience so fast. Wish it was giving me more direction, something at least ..mentioning because thats what just ruined what was otherwise a fun run up to that point. Another thing that feels negative is when you're in the first dungeon where you start and you run around and time runs out i guess so this demon comes and kills you. Thats fine but I hate that Im forced to go through the turns of combat while he slaughters my part, he's 1 and 2 shotting so why have to click through all that...dont like pointless clicking, now maybe its there's some way to beat him eventually but it didnt feel that way it felt like a 'game over' for taking so long...anyway those are my thoughts.
7.5/10 The blobber genre has always been a bit on the shallow side. Core elements like plot, depth, or even heavy strategy usually aren’t the main focus, and Thsiastery sticks pretty close to that formula. That said, I genuinely enjoyed my time with it. It took me about 11 hours and 8 attempts to finally complete a run, which felt like a good balance of challenge without overstaying its welcome. The skill system is easily the standout feature. Skills are randomized, but the ability for party members to train each other at any time adds a layer of flexibility that kept things interesting throughout. While the game is light on storytelling, the atmosphere really carries it. It has this bleak, somber tone that almost feels like Berserk at the end of the world; dark, oppressive, and strangely captivating. Overall, I appreciated that Thsiastery knew what it wanted to be. It delivers a focused experience and doesn’t try to stretch itself into a 100+ hour commitment. A short, enjoyable run that I’m glad I picked up.
Just finished my first run, really cool game! The game has a creative spin on top of the turn-based dungeon crawling genre, and by all means, it's really interesting Everything in this game is randomized: party members, classes, stats, even skills are randomized despite picking the same classes. But you have the tools to customize your characters to some extent so it's still based on your decision making The game environment's pretty tough and seems unfair at first, but after you learn how the combat works, the game gets so much easier. There are many ways you can tackle the seemingly impossible enemy using the game's unique turn-based system. I can just spell it out here but I think it's better to try stuff out yourself first
Thysiastery is a wonderful but short oldschool roguelike dungeon crawler with a charmingly ominous atmosphere and beautiful music and dithered graphics. The default difficulty is moderate for a dungeon crawler. RNG can sometimes get you into a pickle, but that just means more opportunities to experiment and iterate. The skill system is really fun, and leaves a lot of room for interesting builds. I've only played on the default difficulty so far, but the time limit has been more than manageable once I got a feel for it. On the whole, Thysiastery is a gorgeous and atmospheric dungeon crawler with crunchy mechanics and just the right level of difficulty.

well I just completed my first run of this fun, quick dungeon crawler. the way skills are learned, and taught is great; could use a little more explaining for new players, but for experienced players it is a quick learn. there is character cross training as well as dual classing. it is a good system. gear and items have quirks and stats, that do not make them a must have, but do feel significant in improvements. overall the game is easy to pickup and play for a bit here and there. about 2 to 4 hours a run. In my playthrough I explored all I could, moved real quick, zero grinding. I lost a full party by floor 2 boss. due to recklessness, while the 2nd party took care of the rest of the game. I was worried about non active party memebers not getting exp, but THEY DO!. all of the battles required some thought, The focus system is great! half way through floor 3 I had some end game attacks and with focus it lets you use them all the time with reduced cost, at least once a battle. got some really hard battles once I hit the final floor, . there was some cool special events, The descriptions were well done I "could" always expect what would happen or at least know if it would have a negative. overall everything was great... well except the battle with the UI the biggest problem it is clunky with controls. there is a odd mouse thing that makes it feel like you are dragging it through mud. and the buttons and ways for menu navigation is a pain. (please just let me select a spell to cast in the menu with one click) I want to heal. please just let me heal out of battle without over 12 clicks. items and skills need more description info... ALOT more. just let me know the odds please. I have played a lot of these games I don't want to guess or look up guides anymore.
