In coffee terms, Thy Sword is a classic black coffee, it's been around just about forever and lacks the fancy modern flavours and syrups but there is a reason people got addicted to it in the first place, the younger generation who have grown up on larger drinks packed with all sorts of sugar might not appreciate it as much as an older gamer, but there was a reason black coffee was and is a staple, it just works. Remember pulling off a decapitation in Barbarian? Now you can do it loads but with tiny dudes!
Really enjoyed this game. Great for even a 15 minute break but also good for an hour or two play session. It has that look of an old retro arcade game but the feel of the controls are way better than those old games - in fact, one of the best feel of controls that I've ever played. Everything seems smooth and in control. I've only beat it on the easiest mode, which was a challenge itself until I learned all the tricks and enemy patterns, but the different characters and many power ups makes it very replayable. If you are a fan of pixel art and/or retro styled games you should definitely give this one a try!
A really fun arcade combat game. It becomes a satisfying meditation in moving and striking with precision. Too many slipups in a short time can end the run, so you have to be very consistent and never let your hubris get the best of you. The existence of the gambling is a bit of a downer to me since good luck can have a huuuge impact on your run's survival rate, it's hard to resist - but other than that I have no complaints.
Great game! This retro-style game hits all the nostalgia notes from 1980s videogames. This game mixes the feel of amiga computer games, atari's 'Pitfall', nintendo's 'Castlevania', & even 'Dungeons & Dragons' into one perfect melting pot. It has a generic 'sword & sorcery' feel but in a good way because it allows the player to interpret which tropes & elements from other media that it reminds them of. Now that technology is more capable than ever of meeting the expectations of our imagination, retro-style games like this can allow us to have smooth game-play that we wished the games of our childhood could possess. I like how you need to use the special attack to fully defeat certain bad guys that keep regenerating because most games require a particular weapon to defeat a bad guy instead of a skill you need to practice with. It would be fun for a sequel to add additional elements such as an open world, rpg elements (like leveling up), a side-scrolling screen, a selectable inventory, old school cut-scenes, platforming, more locales (like a waterfall stage or ice cave), & side-quests that you can get from the townsfolk in the safe zones. Also, additional characters (like a wizard) & weapons (like spears) would be fun to add to the mix. Another fun element would be a good guy army to work with so you have some NPCs that help in defeating enemies. Hope to see more games like this! Thanks for making a classic based off of the classics!
Nice little game. Combat is old school but fun. The bosses are well designed. It is a bit short, but if you get it on sale, the price is right.
a very nice mix of slash them all/platformer, nice 8 bits graphics, very enjoyable playing this in local coop...my wife and I love it! Playing with a controller, everything from junmping, to slashing to beheading works well, but it can be hard ! a must try..
Fun game. Make sure to get as many kills with your special attack as possible so you have more money for gambling.
