I hate this game, it kicks me in the rear end all the time. Anyway, I'm going to play it again, for another hundred hours or so.
Gave it couple of years to cool off and make sure that my opinion is not a product of a butthurt. So here it goes. It is a great concept. It looks and plays well. It pushes all the right buttons with the presentation and early gameplay. But holy undead Jesus, after playing the campaign I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate it. As a strategy game it just sucks. It's like there is only one way to play it. Anything else, any minor deviation or mistake - you're done. It does not tolerate creativity. You just follow the script, and even then you're just a hair off from failure. You either know exactly what to do, or you try and fail, getting to know the scenario further with each failure. I didn't like it and only type of gamer I can recommend it to is the one that likes bashing their head against the wall to try to tear it down. Eventually they may succeed and put that smug "git gud" expression on their bloodied mug with the feeling of superiority over unwashed casuals.
Fooorthe colony! Fooorthe humans!! Fooorthe Empire!!!
Been playing this years, and continually keep coming back to it. RTS map defense at its finest. Top notch units, abilities, maps and controls. The only improvement could be in-game saves and better cut scenes. Really hope at some point the developer will make a sequel.
