Woah! They Always Run is truly an underrated gem! Eye-catching visuals and fascinating story, which starts slowly, but spirals up to a poignant, very powerful ending... Too bad we're not getting a proper sequel any time soon. That said, for most of the time I was playing it, the game was 'okaaay, but...". Many people say the battle part was underdeveloped, but hey, it's just not as mind-blowing as in My Friend Pedro. Also, a minor gripe to some players, item drops from enemies are randomized, which means you can get a medkit 5 times in a row when you're at full health, and then, struggle for a good half of the level, clinging to the last drops of blood, without any health items... Just because of bad luck. Well, the game's really short, so I don't really understand guys who simply rage quit it and then drop off completely, even if they have to restart the whole level. It's not The Witcher 2 with perma-death option on, you know? The platformer part is better than most platformer games I've played. And I've seen them aplenty, being a console player since Atari, ZX Spectrum and NES times. On the other hand, 2D platformers made certain steps with increasing difficulty, depths and variety of challenges regarding the perplexity of acrobatic tricks. So, if you place They Always Run on the scales alongside the recognized champion in this genre, like Hollow Knight, for example, that game will be a bit lighter. A wee bit lighter. But for some downvoters it's already enough to deliver a Negative verdict, which is really a shame. Also, while I saw many claims about game glitches, in my experience, I only witnessed a 'falling through the map' bug, that was quickly fixed by restarting a checkpoint. No more glitches. For an indie or even a modern AAA game, it's a well-polished product, actually. Where They Always Run loses a point or two in the action part - while it's still fluid and challenging - it gets a full 10/10 for the complexity of the story and the game universe. The visuals and music, especially the last theme, are delightful, and provide a sense of a much bigger project than a short action game. That, and also a bounty hunter setting, unique in its execution. When beating a boss at the end of the level, not finishing the scene, but only making up half of it. Because now you need to grab the body of the wanted criminal and go all the way back to your ship... It provides a vibe that I don't want to let go, even now that I've finished the game with all the trophies. To sum it all up, for a usual action game player, who doesn't pay much attention to the story, skips all the dialogs, and just wants to blast his way throughout the whole game, the mark for this game will be like 6.5-7.2/10. In a word, Mediocre. However, if you don't mind restarting a checkpoint enough times to gitgud, and beat it, and also, if you enjoy a proper Sci-Fi setting and the decent stories, where nothing is laid plain before you in the first 5 minutes of the game, well, the mark is a solid 8.5/10. Looking at the game as a whole, I'd say, if you play 2D platformers at all, you can safely buy it, it won't be a waste of time, especially if you make it to the end.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

a good action game. can recommend it. the price of this game is a bit to high but in offer for like -50% alright.
Eu sImplesmente adorei o game... Muito bem desenhado, gameplay bem divertida, cenários interessantes, plataforma de precisão bem legal, nada extremamente frustrante, jogaço demais. 10/10
A game with big qualities and even bigger flaws, which makes me think it's probably not finished and lacked testing. But I'll start with the positive. The graphics are outstanding, full of details and in an original art style, especially the animations. (The camera ruins it a bit, but I'll come to that later.) It's interesting that we play as a bounty hunter who can capture his targets alive for bigger rewards, sometimes forcing us to carry their unconscious bodies for a part of the level. The story is pretty dense, with flashbacks of the main character and various NPC encounters. Although, it's sometimes difficult to focus on the dialogues because we don't have enough time to read. But it doesn't seem that well written anyway, and the humor is a bit dumb. Also, the influences are maybe too obvious, such as Star Wars (a bounty hunter, the Empire, even sand people living in what looks exactly like Tatooine). But going from one beautiful planet to the next still does the trick and gives a pleasant sci-fi vibe. But anyway the best graphics in the world can't save a game with flaws pretty much everywhere else. The game-feel is never fluid, because of all the jank and bugs, as well as the unintuitive button layout. The biggest problem lies in the combats. The system would be pretty well thought out for this type of runner/platformer gameplay - emphasis on "would" - thanks to its dynamic moves, including a counter, guard-break, or the ability to hit in front and behind the character at the same time. This would fit very short combats between some running and jumping, but unfortunately it's almost never what happens. You always encounter way too many enemies to even be able to use that carefully crafted system. Basically, here is what happens when you encounter enemies: You throw one or two punches, then you die. lol Because one hit can drain half of your health bar, and it doesn't replenish at checkpoints nor when you die, so you immediately use the rare health packs dropped by enemies but you still end up half-dead. So you eventually stop trying to engage with the gameplay mechanics, unless there's only one or two enemies left, and instead simply roll all the time and spam the weak and strong attacks indiscriminately. The only aspect that seems to fit that gameplay is the stealth kills, which can be performed in a whole lot of situations, but for some reason you can't kill an enemy who's simply standing right next to you and hasn't noticed you. So it's really just contextual takedowns. Also, the game gives you a gun that's supposed to help against enemies with weapons or projectiles, and even aim at several at the same time supposedly. But since you can't aim manually and it doesn't seem to shoot where you'd want, it's also just for spamming when you're bored of trying to play properly. In short, a great combat system on paper but poorly exploited. The best parts are maybe the running sections, which are pretty reactive and dynamic. Although, even those are a bit problematic. The main issue is the camera. It's unusual that a 2D game has this issue, but this one absolutely does. It's constantly jittering, zooming in and out way too quickly, which is so headache-inducing that I need to rest my head every hour or so. Other than that, the platforming is a bit rigid but every move triggers as expected, except the grappling hook. Sometimes the indicator is active, yet even spamming the button does nothing until the game finally decides to react. For timed running sections it's a bit of an issue. The game has many glitches, nothing game-breaking but recurring. Even simple actions like running down a set of stairs makes the character glitch a bit. And that's especially annoying during the difficult parts. For instance, sometimes the character freezes during combat, or doesn't want to grab ledges. And some special moves seem to work once out of ten, which makes them completely unreliable, especially the ground-pound that you will only trigger when you don't want to. But the worst aspect is definitely the boss design. Bosses are just bullet sponges with very basic yet annoying patterns or objectives, where all the jank of the gameplay comes together to make it a very frustration experience. And since there's a checkpoint before each one, but no way to replenish your health anywhere except by random loot, chances are you'll get yourself in the situation of needing to beat the boss without taking any damage, which can be very tedious. If I was able to give the game a neutral rating that's what I would give, but I can't recommend an unfinished game that costs 10 bucks. Again, the game has great qualities, but it's a shame that it lacks polish on pretty much every aspect. Maybe this will help the devs realize they need to fix all this, even though the game was released 5 years ago.
What a curious flawed gem this game is! Gorgeous visuals, particularly in terms of animation! Banging soundtrack! Fascinating universe and a fairly interesting story! The pacing is great as no time is wasted on unnecessary filler content. Combat and platforming are both alright when they work, but that's where the game's flaws start to surface: inputs stop working sometimes for no reason, certain abilities only appear to work occasionally and questionably designed boss fights are thrown in at various points. I would still absolutely recommend the game however, as it is fairly short and linear, which is a breath of fresh air as far as sidescrollers go, as much as I love metroidvanias. It also has a certain old-school charm to it, which is something I can't quite pinpoint as to why.
don't waste your money even if it's on sale the controls are trash!
Heroes of Hellas. Oh man, the movement is so satisfying, and the visuals are great, but it's not an easy game to play.
