About
A small adventure with a big story. Theropods takes around 2-3 hours to finish. Perfect for an afternoon or a relaxed weekend.
Wordless point-and-click adventure — no dialogue, no subtitles, just animation, sound, and visual storytelling.
An unlikely friendship in a hostile world — a wordless story of bravery, trust, and survival.
Brains over brawn — outsmart dinosaurs, distract barbarians, and puzzle your way out of deadly situations.
A vivid prehistoric world — trek through jungles, valleys, canyons, caves, and wild dinosaur territory.
Gorgeous hand-drawn pixel art brought to life with cinematic frame-by-frame animation.
An immersive soundtrack blending tribal rhythms with eerie sci-fi synthesizers.
A glowing stone crashes from the sky into a young hunter’s village. Its arrival draws a bloodthirsty tribe, who attack the settlement and enslave her people.
Barely escaping into the jungle, she discovers the stone’s true origin: a stranded spaceman whose damaged pod depends on it.
Together, this unlikely pair must cross dinosaur-infested lands to free her tribe and find a way to send him home.
Theropods is a classic point-and-click adventure built around visual logic. Watch how characters move, how creatures behave, and how each scene changes as you poke, prod, and experiment.
Instead of fighting your way through danger, you solve your way through it — distracting predators, avoiding enemies, triggering reactions, and finding clever ways past situations too dangerous to face head-on.
Theropods replaces dialogue trees, long conversations, and text walls with gestures, expressions, sound, and visual storytelling. The story unfolds through action: what characters do, what they notice, and what changes around them.
With no subtitles or text-heavy exposition to translate, the adventure is built to be understood by players anywhere in the world.
I’ve backed the game so many years ago, perhaps I was expecting too much. Sadly, I was very unimpressed. It’s a 2 hours long romp set in some nondescript prehistoric fantasy, entirely non-verbal, and because of it perhaps trapped by its own design. It has little to say but doesn’t shy away from putting so many cut scenes in that I ended up a little embarrassed. A lot of the cool stuff happened there, far from the actual gameplay. The gameplay itself is really a string of very basic, often timed sequences of ‘use X on Y, then quickly do Z’, usually limited to a single screen and around 3-5 interactive elements at once. If a puzzle does use multiple screens, it has an ugly habit of repopulating used screens with new items, so that the go-to way to solve multi-screeners will always be to go back first and check if new stuff popped up. Technologically, I perhaps would’ve liked the pixelwork to be of higher resolution. It doesn’t get genuinely pretty to look at most of the time, instead it's often a smudge. Also, it’s probably the first pixelwork game I’ve ever seen to include pre-rendered sequences, I’m honestly at a loss trying to figure out why. Some flickering errors appear in a few screens. Really not a fan of this one.
Therapods shows us through a series of grunts and groans that you do not need long arms to have a decent little adventure. (
T-Rex Pun, someone stop me
) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3788656696 You start out playing as a red haired woman trying to survive in a world where dinosaurs roam freely and small tribes are still figuring out this whole civilization thing. Later, you also get to play as a rather mysterious second character, which adds a little more sci-fi to the story. The Therapod gimic is how it wants to tell its entire story through visuals and sound. There is no spoken dialogue and no text to read. Characters communicate through gestures, expressions, noises and whatever is happening around them. It is a neat idea, and for the most part youll understand exactly what the game is trying to tell you. The music is absolutely great. I did have to get used to all the slightly derpy grunting, groaning and moaning, though. Normally I have very few complaints when a game gives me this much grunting and moaning ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), but apparently even I have limits. The game itself is basically a series of small puzzle scenes. Each area has its own little problem to solve before you can grab an achievement and move on. Some of these puzzles are actually quite clever and gave me a nice little moment of satisfaction when everything clicked. Others are less about understanding the logic and more about introducing every item in your inventory to every object on the screen until something finally works. Usually you only have around one to four items available, with roughly the same number of things you can interact with. Because of that, even when you have absolutely no idea what the game wants from you, some good old prehistoric brute force will usually get the job done fairly quickly. I had been looking forward to Therapods and I think I was hoping for something a little more captivating than what I got. There is nothing particularly bad here, but it never really grabbed me in the way I was hoping it to. Still, I would recommend it. It is a charming little game, easy to finish in around 2-3 hours, and works nicely as something you can play through in one relaxed evening. I would just recommend grabbing it during a sale rather than going full price. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3788655604 Recommended. It might come across as a little derpy at times, but underneath all the grunting, dinosaurs and questionable prehistoric logic, there is a charming little adventure here ♡
When i was young, it was the Age of the C64. The Age of the Pixel Games. I remember my shining eyes when I stood in front of the C64 monitor for the first time and played BOULDER DASH for the first time. And then in 1987, the big moment, the first time MANIAC MANSON. My first point-and-click adventure. And so it began. Over the Years i played so many of them. The ones from SIERRA (KINGS QUEST, POLICE QUEST, SPACE QUEST ect.), LUCAS ARTS (LOOM, INDIANA JONES, ZAC MCKRACKEN, et.) and of course LURE OF THE TEMPRESS from REVOLUTION SOFTWARE, the ones who created the BROKEN SWORD Series. Over the Years other Genres took over and Adventures became rare. Not gone, but rare, becoming Pearls in the Ocean of Games. Like this one. So, dear Reader, welcome to THEROPODS! Well, dear Reader, i cannot lie, but after starting THEROPODS and seeing the beginning of the Game i have had a Tear in my Eye. Yes, sounds so sensibel. Oh, not because of the Intro, yes it is sad, poor Girl, but because of having the Feeling of a Time Journey. I sat there and couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was so beautiful. There he was again, the little boy sitting in front of the monitor, staring at the game with shining eyes. The old C64/AMIGA 500 Vibes are back!!! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787014798 THEROPODS is a Game about a special Friendship in the prehistoric Era. The Story of a young huntress and an Astronaut who met and try to help each other. Nothing more to say, you have to play, no to experience it. A Point and Click Adventure with some nice Puzzles. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787015069 Amazing Pixelarts and a wonderfull Sounds are waiting for you. A charming atmosphere like no other. Once you start playing, you can't pull yourself away from it. The most extraordinary thing about this game is that there are absolutely no dialogues, yet you understand everything through the images. It's a great art, and you can feel how much passion has gone into this wonderful game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787015379 The Story is amazing and i don´t want to spoiler anything. Only this, it feels like on of those old Science Fiction of the 50/60´s Movie Era and i liiiiiike it. A very, very big thanks to the Developer for this really, really nice Pearl in the Ocean of Games. I highly recommend this Game to everybody, nozt only for it´s Pixelart but also for this exciting Story and of course Dinoooooooos!!! Thank you for reading.
More interesting reviews on Fenol Baron Approves Curator Page
You know, I liked it. The game's setting is very original and bold; I could easily fit the number of modern point-and-click adventures set in the age of dinosaurs on one hand. The main character lives in a dangerous world where peace comes only in dreams, and even then only after terrifying nightmares. And it should be said right away that the game fully exploits the ruthlessness of the surrounding world, fully exploring the theme of living alongside huge predatory lizards, bloodthirsty people from other tribes, and other joys of that period. I won't spoil too much, but there's a lot of blood here. The author wasn't afraid to make the adventure more mature, but here it feels entirely appropriate, not like some mindless exploitation of violence. Structurally, the game is divided into segments, each containing one or two puzzles and several uses for items. Yes, it feels a bit sketchy, but the cutscenes between chapters help maintain the pace without completely breaking it. I wasn't immediately sold on the plot twist, but eventually I understood and embraced it. The game isn't long—2-3 hours—but they're very intense and engaging. The pixel art is quite nice, and in places, it's absolutely gorgeous; it was a joy to behold. The game definitely has heart; the author's passion for both the characters and the setting is evident, and the story leaves plenty of room for a sequel. So, we give it a thumbs up and can't wait for the next game!
Honestly, this was a delight. Steam randomly recommended it to me and I instantly had to buy it and play it and it was so fun. Sure I got stuck a couple times but that's what happens with point & clicks sometimes. But I loved the art, the style really works with the prehistoric setting and the animations are really cute. I liked the story and the scenery and just had such a fun time. Also fairly easy 100% if you are into that. Highly recommend
Ok before we go into the review, I backed this game on kickstarter in 2019 or something and I kind of forgot about it, assumed it was one of the games that for one reason or another fizzled out. Then a day or two ago I happend upon a youtube video covering this weeks indie releases (shout out to I dream of indie games) and saw something that felt awfully familiar. I've seen that game somewhere.... OH NOW I REMEMBER. Looked at my mail and there it was... the backer key, lost in my spam folder. Always happy when kickstarters manage to deliver, even if it takes longer than expected. Well a cute and and brutal AF (the devs clearly saw The Land before Time) and at the same time a absolutley delightful point and click adventure where the daughter of the chieftain of a primitive tribe and an astronaut who crashes on the planet goes on a quest to find the kidnaped viligers. Told entirely without words (that you can understand at least) but still manage to tell a emotional and engaging story. The puzzles are all self contained in small scenes where you only have a limited amount of things to interact with, It's not always super obvious what your goal is, or rather, what you need to do to get to the next objective. sometimes it feels like you are randomly clicking. I'm going to pull out a real deep cut now but does anyone remember Gobliiins (yes with 3 i), it reminded me of that game. But it's never so hard that you would need a walkthrough. 4 hours include some idle time when I was cooking dinner, so somewhere between 3-4 hours for a blind playthrough. Length and moon logic aside, this was a wonderful little game to play in one sitting. 100% is easy. There are two missable achievements (I think) But both are in the very first area, So they will be easy to pick up in a quick replay of that scene. The rest are story related.
I found the game too short and simple to justify its price tag.
Super charming game. The visuals are gorgeous, and there are so many unique animations, including tons going on in the background, like villagers all doing different things, which really bring the world to life. Some great close-up cutscenes, too. The complete lack of text works really well. The gibberish voice acting manages to convey a lot and is another really charming aspect of the characters. I'm still early in my playthrough, but right from the offset, the story is dramatic and captivating, and you're thrown right into the gameplay.
