Alright. War of the Wormholes: Duty is duty is done and dusted. This is a point & click adventure that embraces the silly side of the genre and is presented in a fairly old school manner. I got stuck a couple times and even so, this adventure weighed in at a little under three hours for me. Now, despite having a bit of an old school comedy PnC aesthetic, the UI for this game is clean and simple. Rather than trying to mix and match items, dragging them onto other stuff and such; this game instead has you simply highlight the item in your inventory. If it can be used with something on screen, it happens automatically when clicking on the onscreen item. And you aren't required to hold/drag to combine inventory items. Which really makes the process of using these items to advance the story pretty simple. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3677938288 Additionally, when there is something on screen that is interactive, your cursor changes color, thus alerting you to the fact that this item will be relevant to solving at least one puzzle, advancing dialogue, or simply earning an obscure achievement. And you can select from three cursor colors in the menu to better help you choose a color that you have an easier time seeing. As for the story, you are a janitor at an intergalactic burger joint. After cleaning up the mess left by the crews of a couple ships, another ship docks at the restaurant and asks you to join their crew as its janitor. The remainder of the game is spent between the diner, the ship, a cave under the diner, and a nearby planet. Everything else in the game happens due to the general incompetence of everybody, and results in a prison break. For some reason, you the janitor are now responsible for rounding up these criminals, lol. This game IS intended to be part one of a three-part series. Hopefully that comes to fruition. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3678314942 There were a couple math puzzles, one of which I just guessed my way into the answer. And when I got stumped with other puzzles, it was always because I hadn't noticed another available room to enter. Which invariably held whatever I was needing to complete the puzzles I was stuck on. I thought there was a decent variety of puzzles overall, and they had a decent mix of difficulties attached to them. Some were super obvious; others required some trial and error. But all were solvable, which is good because to my knowledge, there are no guides anywhere on the interwebs at this moment. As far as the graphics are concerned, they are that classic cartoonish PnC look, with a good variety of characters and rooms/environments that all had their own unique look. Much, if not all of it, it seemed hand drawn. The music was super quirky and weird as befits a game like this. There were a lot of different tracks as well, offering a solid variety of fun tunes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3678314955 Overall, it's a cute, hugely ridiculous, and generally charming little adventure that carries good vibes and more than a few moments that will bring a smile to your face. The $2.49 base price tag is highly affordable and appropriate for the content offered IMO. Definitely worth a look if you enjoy the quirkier side of comedy point & click games. In this point-and-click adventure game, you step into the galactic work boots of a mop-wielder stationed at a dilapidated fast food joint orbiting on a chunk of space rock. From the very beginning, you're greeted with a scene of grimy floors, walls coated in suspicious stains, scampering space rats, and grotesquely mutated burgers. While your boss stays conveniently glued behind the counter, it's up to you to keep this cosmic dump from falling apart. Just as the mundane rhythm of cleaning spills starts to settle in, things take an unexpected turn. A spaceship docks at the establishment, and you're miraculously offered a better gig: janitor aboard a more respectable ship. For a brief moment, things are looking up. Unfortunately, that dream is short-lived. A pair of hapless engineers fumble around in the control room and manage to accidentally release a bunch of prisoners. Now you need to clean up this mess. One of the standout features of this game is the surprising depth of its world-building. Planets and alien species aren't just decorative nonsense. Each one comes with detailed descriptions accessible directly from the main menu. This lore helps flesh out the universe and gives a sense of cohesion to eventual sequels. That said, all this background information is entirely optional, so players who prefer to stay focused on the gameplay can safely skip it without missing anything crucial. Gameplay-wise, it’s all about pointing and clicking with the mouse. However, that simplicity masks a bit of a challenge. Interactive hotspots aren't clearly marked, and while the mouse cursor does change color when hovering over them, the color shift is subtle and easy to miss. The only exceptions are collectible items, which are highlighted with a visual outline, and exits, which are marked with arrows. For everything else, trial and error becomes your best friend. Clicking on anything that looks remotely suspicious not only helps you progress, but can also unlock secret achievements, some of which are missable unless you save often. Fortunately, the game’s inventory system is user-friendly. Items you collect appear in a fixed inventory bar at the bottom of the screen. You simply click to select an item and then click on your intended hotspot. The selected item remains active until you switch to another, making it easy to test different combinations without constantly reselecting. The game doesn’t spell this out, but you can even combine items. All in all, this is a compact and short adventure. With a runtime of around two hours, a few logical puzzles, and a weird setting, it ends with a promise of at least two future parts that will continue the adventure.a
This is a fun point and click adventure that I found entertaining (it made me laugh). It's sort of like Douglas Adams meets Sam and Max Hit the Road. The art work is retro and very silly, which I liked. Some of the puzzles are easy, while others are challenging - a couple of them stumped me ... until I remembered how to do these games (look for clues and find all the items you need to find - and find out where they go or what room they "work" in). It's also not "too hard" or at least wasn't for me. There is a whole lot of lore if you click one of the buttons in the beginning (the start screen). It's weird stuff and funny. I wonder if it's for future games, because I don't think you need to know this stuff to win the game. The alien races are quirky and silly, and some of the planets are bizarre (one is kind of a giant stucco room of some sort!). It's been ages since I've played an old fashioned point and click adventure, and I'd forgotten how much fun they can be. If puzzle solving and problem solving in a really off-beat, quirky space world sounds appealing, you might like this game.
That was good. Funny happenings. Clever puzzles. I have to do a second run through because I missed a few things.
A quick and fun point-and-click puzzle game! The art does a lot to set the goofy tone for the game and the world it's in,. The puzzles aren't too hard - the one time I got stuck it was mostly because I forgot to try solving another puzzle first - but generally offer the right amount of challenge to be fun to solve (or to feel good about remembering something you saw earlier). Overall, a fun time, though it was definitely a bit shorter than I had initially been expecting (although at its price I can't really complain). Note that I do know one of the developers on the game, though I did still pay for my copy.
This is a fun game that feels like a throwback to stuff you'd find on newgrounds or kongregate. If you like simple point and click games with some fun puzzles and pretty decent jokes you can't go wrong, especially at 2$.
very goofy and short, but a fun couple of hours! the puzzles aren't too hard and aren't too easy either, and there are lots of small hidden things to find
my mom knows the guy who made this so i got it for free from her so yay idk how to solve puzzles cos my iqs room temperture but it cool
What am amazing game! I thoroughly enjoyed being simultaneously dumbfounded and mystified by the many fascinating and thought-provoking puzzles it to offer. The point and click mechanism, the SEGA graphics, the wack storyline; ahh they took me back to the good old childhood days. A+ on all fronts - Music, graphics and story check all the boxes! If a genie granted me a wish, I would ask for erasing my memory of War of the Wormholes simply so I could experience playing this wonderfully brilliant game once again the first time. :)
A fun and cheap retro style point-and-click game with pixellated graphics, a pretty far out setting and a good sense of humour. Not to mention easter eggs and secrets. If I hadn't gotten this for free, I would have bought it.
