Peak!
The hype on this game was well worth it and VERY excited for the recently announced 2nd one coming out
What a game. Really a testament to the power of living through a story and feeling the weight of 'choices' in a way that other mediums just can't do. Now to be clear, your choices don't make a ton of difference, sometimes hilariously obviously. But it's not about choices changing the story and having a million different possible states. The purpose is having the question posed to you, of seeing what you would choose, what you value in those situations. It doesn't tell you anything you don't know, but it makes you experience some uncomfortable facts of the real world. The story reminds me a lot of disco elysium in how there are no properly good answers, everything you want to believe as the proper path is undercut. Like how the focus on the plight of the poor is deeply woke, but then it also arguably glamorizes police brutality. Or maybe its better to say it embraces ACAB but also suggests thats ok? Very conflicting game that will make you think. Overwhelmingly the writing is amazing, but there are a solid 2 seasons that were painful.
