The Witches' Tea Party

A sweet 'n spicy little RPGMaker game themed around witches! Now that the achievements are working again I could finally complete it, although it did take longer than it should have due to my own occasional mistakes. …The puzzle pieces, it was the puzzle pieces. Obviously the pixel art is adorable and the CGs as well as the character portraits have a nice watercolour aesthetic occasionally combined with a sketch look. The character designs are pretty and very strong with great colour pallets. The music and soundeffects elevate the atmosphere wonderfully and are simply a joy to listen to. Not only does it have exploration, regular puzzle solving and collectables, but it also has small timed event in the side quests. Most prominently you play as basically a self-proclaimed detective and thus have to piece together information you gathered through investigation to solve the mysteries alongside the story. There is a good bit of interesting worldbuilding and a fine mix of cute and dark be it in the themes, the looks or the atmosphere. The story too has plenty of mystery to it, some light-hearted fun and some darker aspects as is common with this type of game in particular. However it is very light on actual horror if those parts count as horror even leaning more into the mystery. If you wish to 100% this game without frustration, I do suggest using a guide and not making clumsy mistakes like I did. Halloween is of course the ideal time to play a game like this, but really any season works just as well! This game is well worth the money and another nice addition to the niche genre it falls under. Last but not least, I’m Team Cats!
