The Window Box

I got this in a game bundle which is the only reason I played this, because no way in hell should you pay £10 for this. Less than 2 hours of gameplay for £10? Definitely do not buy this game.

Desde el minuto uno se siente atmosférico y estilizado, como si el juego quisiera que lo mires fijo… hasta que parpadeas y ya te metió humor negro, surrealismo y una incomodidad psicológica bien servida. La propuesta va por lo emocional y lo tenebroso, con comedia negra y momentos que coquetean con contenido sexual, todo alrededor de una protagonista femenina y un tono que no pide permiso para ser raro. Es de esos títulos que te invitan a leer entre líneas… y luego te castigan por hacerlo. Primera impresión: “casual” en controles, “terror psicológico” en la cabeza. Y sí, también “LGBTQ+” sin el típico panfleto: aquí se siente parte del mundo, no una etiqueta pegada con cinta. Si te gustan las novelas visuales psicológicas con humor negro, surrealismo y una vibra emocional/tenebrosa, aquí hay material para pasarlo bien… o para quedarte pensando de más (que es parte del chiste). Ahora, seamos controversiales: que tenga 0 jugadores activos es poético para un juego llamado “Window Box” (una caja con una ventana… vacía). Y con recomendaciones en N/A, te toca ser valiente: o lo descubres tú, o esperas a que el algoritmo se digne a recordarle al mundo que existe. En resumen: no es una obra maestra escondida bajo el piso, pero sí un título “Bueno” que sabe lo que quiere: incomodarte con estilo y sacarte una risa culpable. Solo entra sabiendo que aquí el “terror” no te persigue: te sienta, te habla y te pide que le des la razón.

The art style of this visual novel is beautiful with striking colors! The story dives into issues each woman is facing - work stress, emotional abuse, poor communication in a relationship, to name a few. I like that these are real topics that people deal with and the story touches on it in a unique way that is deep, but still relaxing. There are puzzles in the game, but it's not the focal point. Some puzzles follow the storyline and others distract from it.

Occasional typos and bad grammar. One instance of cut off text where you can't even read all you're choosing to say. At least once had a bug where no room had anything clickable on it, at least there's a scene selector that has the entire game unlocked from the start that lets you go back there... (there's no manual saving) Quality control was missing and they don't care enough to go back now and fix it I guess? The story was interesting but the bugs really killed the mood for me.

This game is pretty, but just not very exciting. The puzzles can be fun but the amount of dialog between each puzzle it just ridiculous. if you are super into a story though, this might be for you. For me, I enjoy more puzzles and less story.

Un visual novel, avec quelques petits puzzles. Le sound design et la musique sont au top, ça fait plaisir d'entendre une ambiance sonore aussi travaillée dans un VN. Idem pour certains effets visuels. Il y a des scènes assez lourdes [spoiler] (santé mentale, relation abusive) [/spoiler] c'est pas une lecture joyeuse, mais c'est très bien écrit.

genuinely one of the greatest short ish story games i have ever played. the puzzle aspect is so great and dont even get me started on the different story lines. paige and finley are my favorite <3. inclusive game and i was kept interested the whole time! beautiful game, beautiful art design, beautiful characters, and absolutely BEAUTIFUL story. took me about 2 hours to finish completely, so not super short but not too long. theres also a brown lesbian couple for all of you out there!!

lesbians ?? LESBIANS !!!! the puzzles are great and the characters too the pacing is wonderful and the different mechanics are witty the surreal adventure feels great the game is maybe a bit short for the price , so perhaps wait for a sale . but i really liked this and i think you might too

The start and end of the game are great but the parts where the friends split up into other parts of the house feel far too long for what they are.

Pretty sure I had gotten this from a Humble Bundle, and I had originally installed it just to see what it was, and didn't really have an intention of playing it TBH. But it ended up being an interesting visual novel and I had gone through it all in one sitting. The characters were each interesting in their own way, and there was an over arching story told that kept me invested to know what was really happening. It splices in some short puzzle segments to break up the story. Having completed it and enjoyed the experience, I also know it's not a game that I will pick up again. So while I do recommend it for the experience, please be aware that it is very short for the price.
