A love letter to the Arena-type multiplayer games, a throwback first-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. Fans of both Quake 3 and Half-Life are gonna love this. If you ever played it in It's original form, the groundbreaking total conversion mod for Half-Life 1, you're in for a treat.
Unbelievably good. Still, it lacks a full and proper campaign, since we instead just get a bite of several missions, so the only thing left to do after the missions are finished is to play deathmatch with bots, which is also fun. It needs more content, because so far it looks like a perfect wrapper with no candy inside, and we are all hungry for more.
Es ist ein gutes Spiel.
great game but theres no body online but maybe we can change that
Why haven't I come across this hidden gem sooner?! I can't even find it when I search for it on the Steam Store. Wounder why? Definetly bridges the gap between the original steam and the WON version and continues progression. The only thing I think is missing is the guns from the WON version are not all there but in their place original additions that work all good. Single Player! Wow, the first multiplayer title I know of to offer a single player mission generator and/or mini campaign. Keep developing this piece of history!
I'm playing against bots, why does it feel so toxic?
Really fun, needs more people playing it. Weapons are satisfying and fun to use. The maps are great to run around in and it has an awesome soundtrack. Nice blend of hl and fallout. The single player is really fun as well. I didn't expect a sp mode in this game. Some of the missions are ridiculously difficult though. The melee guys are difficult to counter and enemies just endlessly spawn in after you kill them at some points on the map, which is kinda BS.
Gotta love an old-school FPS.
i am going to try to be as nice as possible bc I caught you guys refund trapping literally 3 levels in and im going to use the dev from 2018s response to a reviewer since the comments are locked and this needs to be public so they dont tank this project entirely. I played the wastes as a kid and played with all of yall, i loved that big city map wit the the hidden department soooooo much! anyway here we go: >eukara [developer] Posted: Jun 17, 2018 @ 5:56pm We're sorry that we couldn't make you happy with your purchase. Hopefully we can make you reconsider with our future updates. Statement regarding the issues above: The soundtrack and the vehicles were created for the original mod, they just weren't implemented back then due to engine limitations. -------------------------------------- as a gldsrc modder yes: vehicles were always an issue, no music was not, they even had random music working through speakers in cstrike via hammer3d or whatever jsut like oh IDK unreal >There are 4 heads-up-displays to choose from in the Customisation menu, one of them is the HUD from The Wastes 1.4 - which we show in our article about Menu and HUD design which you can read on our Announcements page on Steam. Same with the key bindings - there is a Controls menu from which you can change all bindings in the game. Music can be turned off via the sound menu, always can be. The Wastes is a game that we're still developing content for. More maps and updates are coming, as well as compatibility layer for the original mod maps. That way even if players still won't like our updated versions - the originals will never go away and are ready to be played. The original mod had some mechanics in it that didn't quite work, even back then. There was a bleeding de-buff, but no way to stop it. ------------------------------------------ again very weird thing to bring up as a critical issue. you couldn't have borrowed some firearms code for its bandages and make a similar one of your own? my bullet time script is based on valves own timescale script. >We had to come up with solutions with the original team and everyone thought the way we implemented it, the Action Quake 2 way, was great in testing. In a competitive landscape like today, where even throwback games are getting more and more common, we hoped to spice things up by playing around with new features such as the SOF style dismemberment and the skill system, both which a lot of players seem to like. ------------------------------------------------- none of this matters and none of us actually care if the core gameplay is soo far departed from the wastes and rc1's gameplay. i dont care about stupid perks if i cant use the basic weapon altfires. ill go play duke3d attrition mod if i want perks to be brutally honest (go play that if you havent it breathes life back into duke3d as a dystopian shooter perfectly with its perks and full campaign plus some additional campaigns; turns it into a proper rpg shooter and its free, it even has alt fires lol). Like honestly the gameplay sucks i watched my bullets go around and through ppl lol like what even are these animations. im down with quake arena and dmclassic gameplay but this feels liek a texture mod with unadjusted/broken hitboxes >However, we'll look into adding a mode so that any hardcore lover of the mod can turn those things off and doesn't even notice they're there. Choice is what it should be all about! We'll work on making it all better, so thank you for your feedback. --------------------------- how abouts add a mode in where i can pick up the ammo of the fallen npcs when its not a deathmatch. like literally is that your idea of a hardcore mode? that repair mission is pure trash. 1 clip of ammo per gun, cant pickup dead npcs ammo that were firing like they had a a gatling gun before i killed them.., and you want me to hunt around the map while being shot at jsut to find hidden weapons under staircases like its 95 and no one on a BBS has told you "NO" yet? I really feel like you guys lost the plot entirely with this and wish you would get back on track. go back and play your own mod and try to convince me that this is not a cash grab based in nostalgia. even if you didnt intend it to be that, thats what it is. Also for anyone checking out this review: "ashes 2063". thats a mod that has soo much more effort put into it than this. If i had never played ashes 2063 or duke 3d attrition i might not have the opinions or as strong of opinions as i do but holy crap in its current state i cant recommend this "game" to anyone. oh no here comes another one... "iron maiden/iron fury". all three of these hit their mark better than this, i tried to stay away from any commercial products but i just cant. when bmp art games are nailing your genre better than you its pretty telling. Do more gooder, i would like to not refund this and tell ppl to play it.
A competent arena-style FPS single/multiplayer game inspired by shooters and GURPS RPGs of that era. The Wastes is an arena FPS that isn't afraid to throw vehicular combat into the mix, with more weapons than there are people to use them. The Wastes has bots for offline play, and they support most game modes, but they do not drive vehicles.
