In 2021, I played The Trials and absolutely loved it. It was gorgeous, challenging, and a perfect mix of logical, mechanical, and physical puzzles. At the time, I thought that the game did not get the attention it deserved. I was delighted to see that Blue Life did not lose heart and continued working to release The Trials 2 in June of this year. I jumped right into an environment that was both new and familiar. For those who played the original game, there is no steep learning curve. New players will have some challenges figuring out some of the mechanics but that is part of the fun. My sense is that The Trials 2 is an easier game than the original. However, this may be because I was already comfortable with the mechanics and knew some of the tricks using teleportation points, cubes, and batteries. In addition to a vast number of puzzles, there are 240+ blue crystals to collect. Crystals are awarded as puzzles are solved and some are scattered around the environment (some in plain sight and some hidden). You will need to collect about 175 of them to progress the game, as you ‘spend’ them on tangram pieces that are used to enter new puzzle areas. The game saves on exit. There are “fast travel” towers that are initially red (inactive). You click on them to activate them to a green state. You can then teleport back to them. These are important because they control where you are able return to when you re-enter the game. Especially towards the end, you do not want to exit from an area without a green tower. Otherwise, you will find yourself repeating some tricky solutions to get back to your desired location. The map function is handy for quick navigation if you activate every fast travel tower you encounter. It also helps you track which areas you’ve completed and which remain unopened. With one exception, all achievements are story based. There is an achievement for finding all blue crystals, but this is not a stretch if you are diligent (solving all puzzles and examining all areas carefully). Towards the end, you will find two items that enhance your map. It is updated to show the location of any crystals you missed. I finished with all but one crystal, and the map proved to be invaluable. I really enjoyed and highly recommend The Trials 2. It is a challenging adventure for those who love puzzles. Plus, the landscape is a beautiful place to visit. If you enjoy The Trials 2, then I’d also recommend that you circle back to the first game: The Trials.
It is not a bad game... just not good enough to recommend
Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ If you are well-versed in puzzle games, this game is going to be a cakewalk. ~90%+ of the puzzles firmly fall on the 'easy' side. But being easy is not necessarily a bad thing. It is just that most of them arent that interesting and/or well-designed. The base mechanics presented here were explored much more in-depth in numerous other games already. Many puzzles were essentially clones of each other (especially logic puzzles), or with very minimal changes at best, so they very quickly got boring. There were some really cool ideas here and a few genuinely decent and enjoyable puzzles there, but those were generally few and far between. The progression is very weird. What first seems like an open world, is merely a facade, you are consistently janked around the world with teleports. I like the Map though. It is very nicely done. There is some jank with the movement and quite a few puzzles are easily cheeseable if you are willing to take the time to poke around the seams and bounds a bit. What to expect here: A semi-open world filled with logic puzzles which give you gems, keys to the puzzle gauntlets/quasi test chamber-esque rooms involving your base abilities, repeat until the End. For the better or for the worse, this game has no story or lore. Just don't expect anything on this front. Why is it called The Trials? No idea! Does it matter? Idk, but it is what it is. Look, I hate giving this a thumbs down, the dev obvioulsy poured a lot of effort into the game, and I tend to cut small teams, especially solo devs a lot of slack. But still, this game for me was a resounding 'meh'.
5/10
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYQc7pmNwlo
very good game, even better than the first, cant wait to get all the achievements
To start this review of, I will try to get all achievements for this game. It's enjoyable enough for me, I like puzzles games. I can also see this being a starter puzzle game for someone new to the genre. If you are a hardcore puzzle game enthusiast or at least played many puzzle games, I'm not sure if I would recommend this game if you're looking for a very fleshed out or super challenging puzzle game. I think the design of this game is weird in some aspects. To give some examples (not necessarily all bad, just some talking points): 1. The coins don't serve any purpose (I play like a completionist, I don't skip any puzzle really). I always had way too many of them, so it felt obsolete. 2. The main progression through the game through some collectibles didn't really stick with me. It felt like a minor chore instead of being something major to do (maybe has to do with my stance on coins, idk) 3. Visually, the game isn't the most stunning, and color wise there isn't much distinction between areas. I personally do not mind this though. 4. Yes, some puzzles are cheesable, but to that I say just take the time to complete such a puzzle the intended way. I also want to note that some things in this game require a bit out of the box thinking, in the sense that something might feel like cheese, but it isn't (hard to describe, but that's how some things felt). However, there is a clear amount of time and effort put into this game, and while yes, the difficulty for me was also very much on the easy side, the sections with the powerups/abilities, so far, have been very pleasant, refreshing and challenging. The "filler" puzzles are fine, some are hard, but most of the time I just waltz through them, which I don't mind too much, but can turn people off. 6/10 game for me, which seems low, but I do like the game!
The Talos Principle на минималках.
Great game to spend some chill time and challenge yourself. I love the simple art style.
If you liked the first game, you'll like this one as well
I got surprised by how well the game is made, actually bought it and i wasn't having high hopes, but the puzzles are fun and I really enjoyed going through each one of them, I highly recommend giving it a try, it's one of these game where you set back and relax while enjoying good puzzles and great music
