1st Impressions Video with Commentary // Oculus Rift S // GTX 1060: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlBomsFfMzk A MASSIVE THANKS TO THE DEVELOPERS FOR ALLOWING ME AN EARLY LOOK AT THE GAME + REVIEW KEY! My Initial Thoughts: I have to admit I never got round to playing or trying 'The Tower' it slipped my radar, but I know it was a hit with VR fans and has great reviews on Steam and Oculus. I loved this game, it was unique and refreshing in a marvelous sci-fi world. The devs told me that this game has been 2 years in the making based on feedback from the 1st game, so I can only assume the new added abilities like guns we're added as a result. If you like games like 'Mirror's Edge' this is very similar but you have to remember you are on like a conveyor belt. I must admit I did have a blast and I found it rather challenging in my small room space :) Fingers Crossed this comes to the Quest at it would be an ideal format for this game.
I loved Tower2 before seeing it. A VR game where you move through an 80s SciFi movie future medley, sure I'd buy that for a dollar. Between the sweet game mechanics and the great ending of the campaign, you are busy the whole time spotting all the pop cultural references. And, surprise, surprise, on top of the campaign, the VPL, the Virtual Parkour League is packed as a big bonus. Or main title, whatever you prefer. The clean optics, artificial leveldesign and gameplay elements strongly reminiscent of Quake Defrag. Highly recommended!
I played the original "The Tower" a couple of years ago on a friend's machine - that was a fresh kind of game in a blocky fantasy setting that had me die all the time. Obviously the developers spent quite a lot of time trying to get their gameplay idea to look more modern and cooler with this one. The result is pretty well polished and for me not as hard and unforgiving as the orginal game. What takes a bit of getting used to is that the world looks like you should be able to traverse it like in a FPS, but it is completely on rails: You will fall off the walkways and die if you are not careful, but otherwise you can only move out of the way, duck or shoot at obstacles. That felt kind of weird at first but it really helps with not getting motion-sick, because you are stading still after all and is actually a pretty decent way of getting around - I dislike that "porting" mechanism of other games. The 80ies Blade-Runner-Type city really looks very cool and has quite a lot of pop culture details. I like the movie references in there, but I haven't gotten very far, so I expect there will be some more action later on. I also still have to check out the "parcour" stuff, but I want to do the story mode first. I don't have much VR experience, but the 80ies/90ies movie feel really made this one appeal to me.
This is a pretty cool game, I love the graphic style, there is no discomfort caused through the artificial motion in the game, so you can play for long periods without discomfort. Check out my gameplay and impressions video: https://youtu.be/C7_CB0dlCS0 A little nit pick I have though is how the game has you move around a lot in your physical space, it can often send you outside of your play area which in turn causes accidents or loss of tracking. I think it needs tweaks there to help keep you on track without getting lost in your physical play space. Other than that I like it, only played story mode so far and the pace is pretty slow, but with sliding, jumping, swinging and hanging from drones all done without loss of comfort, it is really good. There is a bit of shooting included for good measure to.
Nettes Game.
Really liked this. It is short though. Controller problems abound: on WMR, knuckes and wands I was continually turning. Had to just hold opposite joystick to the turn throughout. So don't buy this if you have to turn in one place. It is great though. Thoroughly recommended. Though I preferred the tower 1 due to bugs and length.
