It's not very good but it's only 5 bucks so if you're bored go for it Detailed answer: It's really grindy and getting gems takes a long time. If I'm missing something please let me know cause this game really seems like it has potential.
TL;TR - Fun chill game to play alone or with a bud using steam remote play together has a good story. Bit of learning curve with the controls. Worth picking up for only $1.99. This is actually a fun chill game to play alone or with a friend (using steam remote play together). There is a bit of a learning curve with the controls though other then that its smooth sailing. In the beginning you might unfortunately die a lot especially to bats( O'NEIL's pickaxe 1 hits them). The tip is to make sure you have a miner like O'NEIL in your squad so you can dig to safety and mine gems. The story is pretty intriguing with sprinkles of humor, and interactive with the dialogue. Each level has more areas to explore and enemies to fight the only way you keep your loot is by finding the exit door at the bottom. Once you reach the exit you can "continue on" or "go to base". The longer you last the greater the rewards. There are other squad members you can buy with gold that have unique abilities like Fat Steve who can drop teleporters back to base. Gems are used to permanently upgrade your gear. Each member of your squad gain their own xp after each adventure that can be used to gain special traits for that squad member but keep in mind if you die using that member you lose the upgrades (Its apart of the story no spoilers). Don't worry you can run Doc on your squad he can drop health kits. The best way I can explain this game is like a mixture of Terraria (with the enemies) and Dig Dug (with the mining). With out a doubt worth picking up for only $1.99.
Never before have I had so much tedious mining in my roguelike platformers! For me this is great! I am the guy completing side quests long after the game has stopped being fun. I suppose if that's not you then you could just ignore most of the sparkly shiny things and just run/jetpack around gunning slimes which this game does pretty decently. I definitely didn't get the Frere Jacques/Amazing Grace space-age remix, but it wasn't necessarily offensive to the ears. All in all a light and fun little game. Worth the price of admission.
Very good Game, but very Brutal and tricky, you have to be careful with your moves or you will die in this game. 8 bit graphics are very awesome, the gameplay take a little getting use too, but not bad, the music and fx are cool. The story is pretty cool and fun, not bad.
Quite fun, but too simple.
The Superfluous is a retro pixel 2D platformer/RPG-lite game where you manage a crew of astronauts who flew out to a deadly asteroid to mine it of valuable minerals then destroy it before it hits the Earth. For some reason the asteroid is full of monsters and chests and some of the walls have bricks. I know this makes no sense, but that's what you get when you let Starbucks employees make video games. I think it's unfortunate that a lot of effort went into designing the games progression/advancement system, and there's some comedy storyline bolted on as well, but the whole thing falls into a heap because the developers lacked the talent/funding to hire an artist to do decent graphics, so they fell back on lazy retro pixel graphics, because then they can pretend it's "art" and that they made it look bad on purpose. Apparently this cope is better than devs just admitting decent graphics are beyond their reach. Regardless, here we are. What could have been a great game ruined by ugly retro pixel graphics. Also, resolution is fixed and controls are fixed and can't be changed, so this falls beneath minimum standard for PC. Also, there's not really much in the way of an end game for all of this, so even if the technical faults and poor presentation don't stop you from playing, the game runs out of steam fast. In this case the devs did make a genuine effort, so I hope they can learn a lesson from this failure.
Developer Response!
In flagrant ignorance of the Steam guidelines for partners that the developer agreed to here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/reviews ... the developer has used up all of his work break at Starbucks to respond in some kind of feeble attempt to defend the terrible quality of this game. Let's break it down. First up the developer seems to have forgotten that he knew the only way he could ever shift units of this shovelware was through game bundles, and not the good ones, either, the really cheap ones, which is where he deliberately started pushing this game because it would never make direct sales. Remember now? You put your crappy game in crappy game bundles! If you don't want people buying and playing your crappy game, don't put it in game bundles where people will play it and then warn other gamers that it's crap. The developer admits he was incapable of hiring a team of developers and tried to make a game on his own, that's not really very sensible, is it? You don't drive a car using only your feet, and you don't make video games using only people who are incapable of developing video games. Next time, hire some staff. The developer "learned a lot" which is an admission he didn't know how to make video games properly when he started this game... wow. The developer does say "I don't believe anything I make" and I agree, I seriously can't believe something this bad got onto Steam, but here we are. The developer says he makes games he likes to play, and not games other people like... again, agreed, I can't see how anyone with sanity or a sense of taste would like this retro pixel crap. I definitely stand corrected on my review here. I was wrong when I said the devs did make a genuine effort. The developers response proves no serious effort was made, instead this is as it appears, a lazy and incompetent half baked shovelware dumped onto Steam out of desperate hope for validation. Is the developer to blame for this mess? No. Valve should have never allowed this game to be published. It's far, far below the level of quality for any video game. Again, I sustain that this game cannot be recommended.
too boring to be as grindy as it is. I enjoy a roguelike, but there is not enough variety to warrent coming back to the game after losing my favorite dude
