I mean, I am sure there IS a way to make rope but I couldn't figure it out at all. It would be better if the game had some indications as to what I should be doing. That being said, the game probably still falls over at the visual stage because the textures are Myst era and the storm/heat effects make the whole screen vibrate in a nauseating way. I like the premise though. If it were implemented well, it could be a good time. No zombies, just you versus nature. At $20, it is definitely too expensive. https://youtu.be/_xCOKb-XbOg
Okay. Let's be honest. Yes the graphics are ugly. The textures could be vastly improved. But I am here to tell you that this indie dev has earned my respect BIG time as he actually knows how to code and how to make a good game. The foundation here is VERY impressive. This is an indie developer who isn't just cobbling together unreal marketplace assets onto a big forest map and hitting export. And it shows if you actually play this game and pay attention to all the details that this developer has obviously poured blood, sweat, and tears into! https://youtu.be/ry9Rpwvg0T4 It has a few minor complaints from me that I believe can be EASILY fixed: - He needs to make sure that if you choose ENGLISH as your language in the settings that ALL of the text and descriptions throughout the game are in English, not Spanish. - He needs to significantly reduce the speed at which your hunger and thirst levels drop. Having to eat and drink every 2 minutes just makes the game feel like a tedious chore rather than fun. Too many of these survival games do this, I assume to try and create challenge, but instead of making the game challenging, it just makes the game frustrating and tedious. - He needs to significantly reduce the speed at which your stamina drops when running and/or increase the speed at which your recover stamina. Nobody wants to walk everywhere in a game like this, especially when the walking speed is so damn slow. - He needs to add a button on the TAB crafting screen that takes you to the I inventory screen so that people can quickly swap screens. Also add a button on the Inventory screen that takes you to the TAB crafting menu. - He needs to make the snakes be more obvious and visible so that you're aren't getting bitten by surprise as has happened to me several times in my first hour and a half. I suggest making the screen shake just a little whenever you get close to a coiled up snake that is ready to strike. The rattling just isn't enough warning in my opinion. The above are super EASY fixes that will just make this game MUCH more enjoyable to play. Fixes that will take more time that this developer should add AFTER the easy fixes include: - Adding more enemies and animals to the game. Let's get some wolves and maybe alligators and perhaps coyotes to add more enemies that will hunt you down added. Maybe deer, eagles, hawks, or even large spiders could be cool as well! - Let's try to improve some of the textures or assets used to better quality textures and assets. I know that the low polygon assets used help keep the performance good, but making sure the game is well optimized should allow for some of the real crap looking textures to be drastically improved. - Let's add much more stuff to the crafting menu. Harpoons for the rafts. Fishing nets. Guns perhaps. Ammo. How about a furnace, work bench, decor items for your house, ohhh and perhaps even turrets that could protect your home. I dunno, think outside the box with this game and let's get some craftable stuff that isn't seen in any other survival games! Maybe a shovel or rock drill that allows us to dig tunnels under the ground. Maybe with a ton of work we could actually build tunnels that link all of the islands together but with the risk of facing giant underground spiders, some kinda demons or other baddies? Maybe we can craft and place torches to light up those long tunnels. THAT would involve a lot of work, but damn that could make this game fun! Overall, I 100% support this developer. This developer has proven to me that he has the skills needed to make a super fun game unlike 95% of the asset cobbling and asset flipping indie devs on Steam these days. This is an AMAZING first game for this developer and I honestly look very forward to seeing both what he does with this game and what new games he develops in his future. RECOMMENDED.. if you can get past the low quality textures and poor graphics, there is a really fun survival game here that is unlike 95% of the asset trash survival games on Steam. I LOVE that it is unique and that the passion and effort from this indie dev shows so well when you play this title. (The storms, tornadoes and the way a turtle hides under it's shell when you approach one are good examples of this)
