About

Walkabout is a realistic digital twin of the Cockle Creek region in southern Tasmania, recreated using real‑world data with the goal of recreating a real place as faithfully as possible.
Cockle Creek is the southernmost drivable point in Australia. It is remote and quiet, surrounded by pristine beaches and dense rainforests, with unforgiving weather. It is a beautiful place and a harsh one. That makes it an ideal setting for a realistic survival experience.
The environment is your story.
Good luck staying alive.

Walkabout was built with accuracy to real life in mind. The following features were created using real‑world data and hand‑crafted reconstruction to match the Cockle Creek region as closely as possible:
Actual heightmap data used for the base landscape.
Accurate time and date simulation using the correct time zone and calendar.
Dynamic lighting based on real‑world intensity, exposure, and colour temperature values.
True sun position calculated from global coordinates, date, and time.
Seasonally‑influenced dynamic weather reflecting southern Tasmanian conditions.
Realistic ocean tides simulated using data from the Cockle Creek area.
Accurate Earth rotation represented in the sky system.
Hand‑sculpted rivers matching their real‑world paths.
Roads, walking trails, driveways, and 4WD tracks shaped to match their real‑world locations.
Native flora representing approximately 80% of the vegetation.
Native fauna representing 100% of the wildlife.
Additionally, Walkabout currently features:
Customisable UI colouring.
Full gamepad controller support with customisable keybinds.
Customisable keybinds for mouse and keyboard.
Language support for 15 different languages.

Walkabout takes place in a 7 km × 7 km recreation of a real Australian location. It’s a quiet, atmospheric survival experience where you explore the land, gather what you need, and try to stay alive in a place that doesn’t care whether you make it or not.
The wildlife won’t always warn you, the weather can turn without notice, and shelter becomes essential. You’ll build, craft, forage, and hunt iconic Australian animals when you need to. Survival depends on paying attention to your surroundings.

Wafflesoft is an independent Australian studio, and Walkabout is a solo project. This is my first game, built from the ground up with a focus on accuracy, atmosphere, and long‑term craft.
Maintaining independence allows me the creative freedom to make decisions purely to serve the best interest of Walkabout. Every part of Walkabout exists because it feels right for the experience I’m trying to create.

The game is very basic right now and really only showcases the idea but it does have a lot of potential. The dev is active on the forums and replies to anyone who asks for help or makes a suggestion. He is only one person on his own designing this so don't expect huge leaps and bounds in development, slow and steady but give it time and you will see a game you always wanted. No more forced placement of items along a fixed axis, you place them EXACTLY where you want them and resize them to exactly what you need. Once the new build is released on the new engine, we will have a proper GUI, inventory and such. After speaking to the developer, I can see his vision of what the game is to become. Buy into it now and be part of the development process, he is actively asking what players want in the game, not just designing what he wants.
SERIAL KILLER SIMULATOR!!!! played the free trial and oh boy this game is NOT ready for EVEN early access. the only thing to do is pretty much make a couple tools and then a furnace and build some guns to shoot the same 3 bandits that spawn in town every 5 mins. also there bullets are slow so u can safely strafe shoot them to death. also there is alot of lagg if u play on anything except pixel soup settings and the game frequently lags when u smack a tree or rock for resources wich is very upsetting and some times bothers the eye's. sorry i cannot recommend this even in early access. also there is no animals or anything and when u think about it. its not a survival game cause u barge into houses full of bandits and kill them all for there loot so ur more like a serial killer.

Interesting how all the people who have downvoted this game have 0.1 hours playtime. With the frequent updates, this game is progressively taking shape. The deveoper listens to feedback and criticism, so instead of just downvoting, get in conatct with the developer to discuss your thoughts and opinions.
Overall, a nice, fresh take on survival! easy to play, understand and navigate. With limtied resources, was still able to bring the game out on initital launch date. Great customer service reaction time and constantly working to make this game more enjoyable! Keep up the good work! :)
I haven't played very long but was interested in the concept of survival in Australia - kind of love the uninhibited nudity at start too, and all was going well UNTIL zombies started appearing; snakes, dingoes, extreme heat, falling off a cliff, even a Wolf Creek murderer on the loose can be expected....... but Zombies????????????? you just lost me unless I can turn zombies (as a danger element) off. I would love to support an Oz product but not if it only heads in this direction, sorry, will keep track of updates.
Outback Survival is a survival game made using the Unreal engine. I think the game I could compare it to the most would be The Forest, but they're completely different games. In The Forest, the emphasis is on exploration and melee combat. In Outback Survival, the emphasis is on crafting and ranged combat. I'm not going to keep comparing the two games, apart from mentioning that Outback Survival is still being worked on (unlike The Forest). The title is a bit of a misnomer, because you have the entire map of Australia to adventure in! The capital cities are represented by lootable towns, which is a nice touch. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to indie titles, and this is one of the indiest (totally a word) titles ever made. For example I'd much rather put up with placeholder graphics than microtransactions. Also, many games are released long before they're actually finished, such as the amazingly borked and constantly time-wasting Vermintide 2. But Outback Survival is in Early Access. As an example of why that matters: I'm not really into 3rd person gaming, I'd much rather play in 1st person. I went to the forums to ask about the possibility of a 1st person mod or something like that, but someone else had already posted there on the topic. Apparently, there WAS a 1st person mode but the dev has temporarily removed it so that they can get it working better to their satisfaction. EDIT: First-Person view is back in the game now! And I'm 100% fine with that, because the game is still in Early Access. Meanwhile, other companies with 100+ employees lie about their game being finished. Now, I get that not everyone will be as forgiving as I am, but for $10 AUD - or even cheaper if you get it on sale - this game is, in my opinion, a great way to spend a few hours. Especially if you're into crafting/survival games. Oh, and the dev is very approachable. Yes, that's right - 'dev'. Wafflesoft is literally just one dude. So the patches might take a while but they seem to be pretty constant. If you're an Aussie I URGE you to buy this game - there aren't enough Aussie games out there!
Like I always say, all games are worth playing weather for 5 minutes or 5 hours. In the end your are the deciding factor as to what you think about the any game! All I can do is play and tell you what I thought about it! While I received this game for free it still does not change the fact that I enjoy most survival crafting games. I played Outback Survival for a little more then 1 hour and died a few times. The game is simple and has no real quests in it other then surviving for as long as possible. Survival in this game is simple once you get the forge and start smelting! Not to mention that I was able to build most things in the game in a rather short time frame! While the game is still bug filled and a work in progress it is has much potential! But all in all for an Alpha game that cost under 10$, my only concern with games like Outback Survival is they never leave the alpha stage and or advance any once the developers see the work involved! However I am hopeful that Outback will progress as I am looking forward to see what else comes from this one in the future. So would I recommend Outback Survival? So simply put I would say YES! I However I would try to get it at a discount or wait and see what updates the game has to offer to make sure it will be updated and worked on. Enjoy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ REVIEW UPDATED PLEASE READ I decided to check into the game after some time and some updates and was horrified by the now cartoon style graphics which where once realistic, the bad character designs that do not stay when you die and re-spawn and the amount of people(AI) in game that have guns shooting at you when you start off. While I always give games chance and time to develop, I think this game went from having potential to losing it lustre. In-fact I think the game has moved away from what was once unique and fun. More so they made things like the menu have bright flashy colours, the AI(REDNECK) over powered and all have loads of guns while you start from scratch! While I am sure this is not all I and certain there are other things that would make me frustrated! Due to those few things I have decided to stop this game at once and move on. Not to mention Update my review. While I give all games chances after updates/changes this one caught me totally off guard. So for now I will go back to waiting to see what the game developers does and goes next. But I must change to thumbs up to a thumbs down.
good game easy enough to move around ,need mere building content and where's the wild life ?
Im using Alienware 17 R4 and got 18fps through d game, even 9fps when it rains. Damn i need to buy better performance PC already. *checking wallet =(*
10 https://youtu.be/X6hiF29Eqm0
