Cool concept, executed poorly.
mmm this game is interesting but come on it needs more love from the developers, in vr it sucks let's be honest, come on developers improve the game, more vr mechanics, more optimization is what this game needs to survive, I will change my review once they improve it or I see an update because it is abandoned too
Schade, Ansatz interessant, Umsetzung leider unterirdisch schlecht.
The Shore is a good game. The Shore as a VR title, is less so. I ran into several bugs throughout the experience that really made it a struggle to play.
Impressions of the game are mixed. On the one hand, there's simply no other Lovecraftian VR game with such a superbly designed graphic and gameplay experience; the desire to complete it is overwhelming. On the other hand, it's incredibly annoying to the core with its glitches – it seems the developer did everything to make the game impossible to complete (or rather, didn't do anything to make it possible). Jumping and especially crouching are sorely lacking – picking up objects from the floor (like lore notes) is impossible. Although I use third-party software to add this feature, it adds its own set of glitches to the gameplay. A seated mode is, of course, out of the options – you have to constantly run around as a dwarf with the camera at waist level. Oddly enough, this doesn't make it any easier for the player to pick up objects from the floor (but it does prevent them from picking up items that are high up – at potential head level for a standing player) - a fantastic combination of opposing flaws. The joystick deadzone calibration is also (not) implemented in a terrible way - the character is constantly running forward, which forcing the player to constantly pull back with the joystick. The scale of everyday objects and the environment in the lighthouse is as if it were made for a child - everything is gigantic, twice the size of normal objects. Picking up items is implemented in a completely hellish infuriating way—some items must be held down with a button or they'll fall out, others are automatically held in your hands when pressed, but can be released by pressing the button again, and still others simply stick to your hands, making it impossible to remove them with any button combination. Yes, damn diary, I'm talking about you - it's impossible to even place pickup sheets in it (and they can only be picked up with the same hand) or read them, because the diary cover obscures the text of the page you're holding, and you can't read pages already placed in the diary due to their microscopic size (yes, placing pages in the diary is also implemented based on the phases of the moon and the changing miasmas of Cthulhu's witchcraft). On the table, it's also a mystery how to pick up certain items without pressing the buttons of others (this changes the hand's interactivity format—either you press or you pick up) - you simply have to continuously click the grab button until it works. The left hand would sometimes disappear altogether (which added to the interactivity when reading the note about the severed hand) - you had to completely restart the game. Saving items is implemented like in other VR games - you need to place them over your shoulder - but retrieving them from oblivion is impossible - no any button or combination of buttons allows you to pull the backpack from your shoulder or open the inventory wheel. And so on, and so forth. If for the game made proper controls (if the developer was interested, which is clearly not the case given its age), it would have been magnificent. As it is, it's simply a dead child that could have potentially become a genius. A perfect example of how NOT to technically implement a good idea. I bought the game - donating to the developer for the good idea and the opportunity to simply run around a beautiful Lovecraftian island, in view of the hellish implemented interactivity - but it's lying down on my account like dead weight due to the aforementioned impossibility of completing it. But art, I believe, is created by an artist not simply to be sold and thrown into a dusty attic, but to give viewers an opportunity regularly to admire and empathize with their creation.
The Shore VR is an alternate iteration of the original game, The Shore. This immersive experience delves into the enigma of the unknown, set on a forbidden island teeming with a terrifying realm of cultists and cosmic terrors. Drawing inspiration from the literary works of H. P. Lovecraft, the narrative incorporates many of his most iconic creations and beyond. However, the VR version suffers from significant technical issues, making it frustrating to play due to its unreliable performance. It is advisable to opt for the standard flatscreen version to avoid unnecessary expenses and complications.
Won't start. Never been able test it. Complete re-install did not help. Crashes before I can start playing. I have HP G2 headset.
