Reviews
I thought the game was really cool and I liked the premise of surviving masked killers hunting you through forests and historic places like abandoned castles and ruins. I also liked that the game has lots of choices that can lead to your death, but with checkpoints so you dont lose all your progress. its an interactive movie that changes based on the decisions you make throughout the story and there are lots of branches and different outcomes to discover. I just didnt like the ending, I found it anticlimactic and pretty cliché. even tho there are multiple endings i thought they were all disappointing, but the journey was still worth it despite the weak ending.

This game is everything I wanted in an FMV including of course Æthelstan, who should be in every game forever. I liked that in the end my ending reflected my choices, and I felt it was a unique and fun, well paced FMV. Wales Interactive should take notes because PRM Games knocked it out of the bloody park with this one. I look forward to seeing more. This game was a solid 9.61/10.
I see no way to review this without the honesty that goes with it. ** SPOILERS AHEAD ** Stop reading now if you don't want any indication of what I'm about to say. I won't say the exact details, but I will say my feelings about what the creators did here. The game description: "An FMV horror-thriller. A famous fitness influencer must fight for survival when she's hunted by killers. Your decisions determine whether she lives or dies." This is the oldest professional writing rule broken. (You never break your promise to the audience.) The premise, the promise with the audience, is a complete lie. That not only lost my trust in this game, it also has lost it for any future games from this developer. I won't say how this is a lie, because that's for you to find out. Another aspect that I didn't like is that literally every decision was not nuanced at all. It was pretty clear one way or the other every time. Also there should have been more choices. Literally every choice that is made in character should have been able to be made. Like when Miri asks if you want route guidance... that's kind of an important choice that you never get to make. And I always Identify as the main character that I choose to play. So when a secondary character dies, and it says, You Die, that's also a lie to me. That said, overall it was a good game for what it was, but I don't appreciate that lie in the premise. A more honest premise could have been: An FMV horror-thriller. A famous fitness influencer must fight for her fate when she's hunted by killers. Also there's no backstory provided beyond that she just is a fitness influencer, for me to have any real reason to believe that she has the sin suggested by the writing. Every step of the journey doing the right thing is natural, and the way it's written you'd have to be a very ugly person to just not do those things. Sadly, with the way the US is currently, I can't say that writing is too far off; but not everyone is that way. And at the same time I do understand that the author has good reason to believe that many people are just awful people. I did enjoy playing it. And if it wasn't for the promise broken, I'd recommend it. Because the premise is a lie, I purchased the game expecting an entirely different experience than the one deceptively supplied. I don't have an issue with the one supplied, but I do take an issue that you lied to deceptively get a purchase I would have not made had the premise been honest. There is one scene where you speak through the phone with a child. The only problem with that is that the person you're talking with is clearly not a child. They look mid thirties or forties. Young man would have been a better line, since they are clearly not a child. Or use an eighteen year old actor to play the part better. There are many bad choices in this development.
The Run is an interactive FMV horror-thriller where you play as Zanna, a famous fitness influencer who we soon discover is in grave danger on her trip to the Northern Italy. It's an okay experience for £10 but I wouldn't touch it for that price. If you're a fan of FMV's but it being so short and lacking that umpf you're looking for doesn't feel worth the money. I'd give it a 5/10 and a "meh" review if Steam allowed. Spoilers are present in this review. Lasting impressions: - The music is poorly balanced with the volume of it drowning out the character's speech - Sex is mentioned far too often and with often rapey vibes, is REALLY off-putting. - The dialogues were often awkward and rough around the edges when making decisions. Pauses too long or mood not matching.
Zanna wasn't a nice character to begin with and that's definitely intentional with her 'sin' as a selfish brat, although while she had her running flashbacks I didn't think her choice was selfish. She was bullied by those girls despite her kindness which ultimately lead to her leaving asthma girl behind. While I certainly didn't see it coming, the ending felt abrupt as if the lead up was all for nothing. There was no ceremonial defeating the bad guys. It was 'I found a church- oh we're actually dead- well I'll be damned'.
Seeing the statistics in the end shows there's lots of forking paths you can make along the way to change your story outcome *slightly*. There is 20 unique deaths and 5 endings... and many Zanna deaths for your eyes to bear witness to. I don't want to play it again, I don't see a replayability and with how long each scene takes with no skipping or fast-forwarding I see myself uninstalling and not touching this game again. Playing it with a group watching is a benefit one should not overlook, I had two watching and we were enjoying making terrible decisions like:
"let's sacrifice a child"
I couldn't imagine playing this alone would be very enjoyable, at least for me I probably would've zoned out. We did have timed decisions off which gave us time to make jokes about the bad acting during certain scenes and plot armour that Zanna had. It isn't the worst and it's certainly not the best, but for the price I'd say it's a good tree to bark at.
