Save your money , seriously.. Broken: * Gameplay - just, wtf. Constant random events with horrific effects. * Save Games - One slot per career ? Cannot load after a disastrous outcome... restart whole game. * Overlays - randomly disappear - come back on reload save file ? no.. restart game ? sometimes. Start whole new game ? Yes * Creating your own jobs - good luck, 10 game years of grinding evaporates on release.. too long for sales to recoup cost, company will go broke and shut down prior to becoming profitable due to "distribution cost" I gave this a real shot.. thinking the Dev had to play their own game ? There has to be a way to not go broke every time ? Nope. Last attempt, grind 20 game years for enough money to release my own product and upon release, calculated release expenses (massive) and never popped up the sales chart.. not bad or no sales, just broken.
Barely any gameplay here. Click on buttons, watch some bars fill up, click on the same buttons to watch the same bars fill up. Nothing here, at least not yet.
This game is very promising but I'm not going to change my recommendation to yes until it's just less buggy as it's almost impossible for me to progress at the moment. Bugs when creating a project where you cant double click or drag the application module that the project lists as required so you're forced to keep trying to recreate the project until it eventually lets you. Bugs where the screen blanks out with the game locked just playing music when you try to assign skill points to a new employee. This and other quirks such as the fiddly interface that makes navigating through the list of modules and uncomfortable chore are things that need to be ironed out sooner rather than later. Additional changes to the long winded steps to get something as simple as a basic contract job up and running also should be relooked at to make possibly both more intuitive and not so many different interactions. If you're a sole developer then for heavens sake just populate the assigned person to a task automatically - who else would we be allocating the job to? There's no need to micro-manage the whole process that early in the game. I can't get too far into the game at present as the locking up and crashes are a bit too common for me to get a long session going. Hopefully once those are solved then I can look at and play the game properly. It's definitely got potential and i'm certainly not looking to try and refund it, but I think i'll take a pass at carrying on for a month or so and then see if it gets a bit better.
English review in the commentary.
I really wanted to love this game, everything about it could’ve been done or handled way better than what it is now, and I wanted to give it a positive review, given that it’s in an early access, and made by a single developer, though I couldn’t.
The Game
DevLife is a game where you somehow end up in a locked time loop, you'll be pausing the game a lot just so you don't accidentally miss the "unfair" deadline. You’re given commissions to complete based on your level, and unlocked components, eventually you’ll be able to do your own commercial projects that will profit you if you’re lucky with the RNG.
Bugs
The game feel’s choppy at times and really needs to be optimized as soon as possible, it doesn’t make sense that my game stops working for a second then somehow an interface telling me that another commission or the current one has been completed or some other notification, this becomes really annoying in mid game, it’s like the game isn’t designed to handle this much information from a simple action. Aside from that, one of the major turn offs to this game was the fact that it contained a lot of bugs, and I mean A LOT. This is by far the most annoying thing about an early access game, and I don't understand how such a mess like this has been even made. I haven’t personally finished the game or completed it per say, that’s because there’s a bug when I move to a town and after 10 to 20 minutes of playing the game suddenly freezes, requiring me to relaunch the save file, or sometimes the entire game, followed by a black screen with nothing to do or a way to fix such bug, I have multiple saves with the same issue and that’s the reason why I stopped playing it. As a game developer myself I often wonder how this could’ve even happen in the first place, especially with how "optimized" the Unity game engine is, was it the lack of experience? or is it the engine's fault? Clearly, it's not the engine's fault this time.
Save File Redundancy
One funny thing I found about the game which could be a good thing in some cases, the save files, and oh man a single save file can go up to 9 MBs if you ever reach the mid to late game, that's if for whatever reason you were able to reach that far without the game bugging out for some unknown reason. Well you see, a single save file not only contains your current character, company, and employees state, but it also has all of the upgrades descriptions, cost and modifiers and so on. This is redundant, since the same values are shared across saves (if not tampered with manually per save), it won’t be a problem if it isn’t eating quite some space from steam’s cloud saves (which in itself is limited per game). As I said earlier it can be a positive thing, it allows you to make your own modification on “balancing” the game as you like, and making the modifiers of your company upgrades actually feel good and worth the investment, but this could’ve been done in a better way.
Verdict – 6.5 / 10
Alright, so does that mean the game is not worth buying? No, it is worth it if you’re willing to be patient with the game. It’ll also help motivate the developer to update and keep fixing those annoying bugs. I don’t hate the game, in fact it has a lot of positive aspects to it, it still needs to be worked on heavily though, the developer is fast at responding to player’s concerns from what I’ve seen, but sometimes promising fixes and stuff couldn’t be just passed on to the next “major update”, stuff like the black screen bug in mid game needs to be fixed immediately, it’s in the alpha phase – bugs are to be expected. The game has a potential, though it's far from "fun" in its current state.

There is a lot to like but there is way more to not like. Trying to upskill is impossible because you run out of energy. Getting more energy is done by adding energy...THEN the game punishes you for using the ONLY mechanic in the game for adding energy other than taking a vacation. Taking a commission is what the tutorial tells you to do but you literally cannot complete a commission with getting your skills way up but this is almost impossible as I mentioned before. This needs a lot of work. https://youtu.be/0xUUc_ko860
It's the usual game dev tycoon type game except this one is buggy and even when it is not buggy it has a very clunky interface. I would recommend that the developer hires a UX/UI designer to help make it less annoying to play. When starting out I thought the game might actually have a bit more depth, considering you can "have pets" but it's all just text prompts. You can name your fish/cat/dog but you can't see them. You can "go on vacation" but your character just sits at their desk. You can have a maxmimum of 6 developers working in your company but unless you are pausing the game constantly, managing them is simply annoying. The interface to create your own projects is terrible and there apparently no real way to find out which combination of features would work well, except literally selecting them one by one. The game feels like someone released a game just to call themselves a game dev, not because they like making (or even playing) games.
