The Royal Game of Ur

After learning about this game from Tom Scott and Irving Finkel on youtube the digital version of the game was a lot cheaper than the 100 pounds they were asking at the online shop of the British Museum. I purchased this game for the 2 player option, that seems ok in my opinion. It's a shame though, that the AI doesn't really seem to have a strategy, so you can more or less predict, what it's going to do. That's a bit of a bummer. But as someone else pointed out: You get what you pay for, and that only seems fair.

It's a very simple game that balances luck and skill quite well. The game is also very satisfying when you've built up a plan over a few turns and the luck pans out as well and you get to kick off your opponents racer that is almost at home! Hammurabi would be proud!

Excellent game. Advanced is best. Would recommend. Don't understand why I lose progression when I do a OS re-install? No cloud?

After playing a few times I am already amazed at how nuanced the game is, how quickly one's fortunes can change with a bad roll or two. It's super fun. I've only played a handful of games so far, but I can tell I'm going to revisit this often. If you like games such as Parcheesi or Backgammon, you're sure to like Ur as well. EDIT: After playing this for over 3 hours, and part of that time spent with a friend on hotseat using Remote Play, I'm still digging the game.

A solid version of the ancient game. You also get hot seat multiplayer, an advanced rule set, unlockable skins, and a tutorial. For $3 you get a good deal more than I was expecting.

No wonder this game was popular for thousands of years. A great mix of luck and skill. A very simple game but encourages cunning and much "what would happen if" mindful forethought. Being intuitive, it is a great game to just let intuition take over whilst trying to remember the different odds of throwing 0,1,2,3,4. So a heady mix of sensation and calculation . The odds, by the way for 0,1,2,3,4 are respectively 1,4,6,4,1 out a 16 chance. I am discovering that there are different strategies for different parts of the board and different stages of the game. Additionally, there are "jokers in the pack" i.e. the squares that on which you cannot be taken but you also have the option of another turn. The game can twist around in seconds with the immanent loser suddenly winning the game. So it can be extremely exciting. So pleased the game has been rediscovered in modern days. Do have a go at this remarkable game honed to perfection over millennia. A game is just the right length to drink a cup of tea.
