Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 8.14/day in the week to Aug 19 → 24.57/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
The year is 1998. A private jet belonging to the Roottree Corporation has crashed. On it were the Roottree Sisters and their parents. Combined, they were worth over a billion dollars.
Now, due to the eccentricities of their great-great-grandfather Elias, their money must be redistributed to the rest of the family. But who's actually a BLOOD RELATIVE? That's where you come in.
Armed only with the power of your mighty dial-up modem, you'll scour for photos, books, articles and other evidence. Then, you'll make connections and deductions based on the family relationships you uncover. With every spot on the tree you fill in correctly, the names and photos left in your possession will have fewer and fewer places to go — but the evidence will also be harder and more obscure to find.
Can you put together the final pieces of the puzzle?

Reviews
An excellent investigation and mystery game about putting together a family tree from late 90s websites, magazines and library books. If you like that early internet detective vibe this is for you.
I like such "uncovering mystery" games, but most that I played have a lot of plot holes and a story that doesn't add up. (especially when you play for the second time and already know what happened). This is not the case with The Roottrees. This is a very satisfying game, by paying close attention to what you read you can figure out the story pretty quickly. And if not, the rubber duck hints are wonderful, they help just a bit but don't ruin the fun.
i also like the fact that it didn't turn out, that the plane crash was actually not an accident. Because that would be quite predictable
This is such a fun mystery. I especially had a blast figuring out the Roottreemania part. The last thing I put together litteraly had me shouating "Woah! That's so cool!" at my computer. I had a had some dificulty searching for clues at times because my spelling is pretty poor and I have a hard time seeing what I've spelled wrong, but that really just meant I should have copied what I wanted to search for instead of typing it.
I'm a big puzzle/mystery game fan and am pretty disappointed in this one. It's essentially just look through a bunch of evidence and make the right searches til you piece a family tree together. There's not really any real critical thinking or problem solving to it and the story isn't very compelling either (which is significant because you spend most of the time reading). Some of it is even just guess work/process of elimination which I find boring and lazy. Imo, it's not an intellectual stimulating game and didn't scratch the itch for solving mysteries that I was expecting. If you like doing tasks, making connections from obvious clues, trying to search the right things, and putting basic puzzle pieces together, then you might like it! If you like actually exercising logic, problem solving, and working through true challenges, don't waste your time/money. Go buy Blue Prince, Outer Wilds, an LoZ game, or something else instead.
This really does scratch the itch that Obra Dinn leaves if you've played it. But, I just couldn't help but feel like it doesn't scratch it in that 'oh so satisfying' way; rather, it offers a bit of relief that the itch was scratched at all. Although the clues do lead you pretty well in the beginning portion, towards the end (Roottreemania) there is a lot more demanded from you. Note taking is a necessity. If you skip a day IRL while playing the game, you'll need those notes to get yourself back up to speed. And even then, I found myself talking to the rubber duck a lot more than I wanted to. Some connections felt a bit too obscure or convoluted. Maybe that was the intent, this is the endgame after all. In the final hour or so, I didn't feel the shame I normally feel when taking hints in puzzle games like these. I guess it was a mixture of frustration, anxiety, and boredom. I never felt that in Obra Dinn. I could just be dumb. Solid puzzle game nonetheless.
Really fun and such a cool brain teaser! I enjoyed the 90s aesthetics too. The progression also never made me feel like I was stuck and when I used hints they were deliciously subtle and simply point in the direction of where the solution is - as hints should! I really recommend this to anyone looking for some juicy fictional gossip and a fun brain puzzle that will last you hours. Starting out I unfortunately had some issues with the graphics but after launching the game in compatibility mode those cleared up for me. Thanks for the fun game!
This genuinely tickles the autistic sleuth in me. As someone who grew up in the 90's when home computers were new and exciting - THIS embodies what searching on the internet was like. You were limited by how and what you typed it. You had to utilize other resources like the library, newspapers, etc. (which you somewhat have access to in a clever way). I turned on the game one day and went to search a lead and got instantly smacked in the face because i hadn't booted up the internet. And instead of being annoyed at "an extra step" i snorted because it was accurate. I deeply enjoyed the original story and the hunt. You have to be intentional with your wording and read certain things carefully. Question how things were stated and why they were stated. If you don't enjoy reading between the lines, speculating, or hunting down the truth in gossip - don't get this game. Plain and simple. My only real annoyance came when searching books. Let me use the authors name on its own. That's literally how the catalog system worked. Let me look up the author and give me a list of their works. The art style was nice, the soundtrack was enjoyable, and the voice acting was well chosen. I found myself sharing bit and pieces with my husband throughout my playing because I was genuinely impressed with many aspects of it. And though I haven't finished the second part just yet, the taste in my mouth has left me wanting more. I will most definitely be getting Galley House and keeping my eyes peeled for anything else Evil Trout decides to put out.
