The Ratline

Haven't have this much fun in a long time on a game. Any little detail could be the difference between solving a case or not. For some reason it says "STEAM REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS GAME" or something when I open it, but the game works fine. A ton of fun, intellectually stimulating, can pause at any time and step away to do something, think about a case, and come back to it.

Loved this game. Puzzle games are my favorite. This game is challenging enough to frustrate but offers hints for some of the more difficult connections. Similar to Roottrees but more investigative avenues. Also, any Nazi-hunting game will be a banger. Eff Nazis.

Fun little game, I got confused over the logical deductions on a few of the cases, but generally I didn't have much problem and found it an enjoyable puzzle game. It's about 9 hours long or so maybe, one achievement needed you to spend 2 hours on a single puzzle, which was a bit annoying to find out and have to do after I'd finished tbh

Recommended only when it's on sale big (like 50% off) The game wasn't bad, but some things were really flawed. As someone who plays a lot of deduction games I found this one lacked character a bit. The people on the phone give up information super easily and willingly to you - a complete stranger. They send you really private files, they talk about all kinds of secret things without you even having to pressure them or anything. That was super unrealistic. I found with the later cases that if you take a break from the game you get kinda lost, so you should really play it in a short timeframe. I did not really care for our character or our employer or anyone, so that lacked a bit of motivation. People hating the Sonitron I do not completely agree with. I didn't feel like the game needed that thing, but I was okay with it. Some cases were really good, especially the earlier ones, some cases had me a bit bored and some didn't really make sense. Overall I would recommend the game when it's on sale because I found the original price too steep, especially for the quality of the conversations in the game - which is a big part of the whole experience. Iron out some flaws, make a few adjustments and you have a cool idea at hand.

Over all, I enjoyed this game and had a good time with it. I think it’s a solid 7/10 from me. I hope that we get a post game DLC some day. Gameplay wise, the puzzles felt compelling to solve and I found the solutions satisfying to get. I would recommend playing with a notebook to hand, and being liberal about what you write in it (your future self will thank you). Story wise, I found it compelling, though I will admit it isn’t as solid as something like The Roottrees Are Dead, especially when it comes to worldbuilding. A degree of suspending your disbelief is needed to enjoy the world of this story, and there were times when things felt a little too coincidental, or nonsensical for the world they were in (don’t think too hard about how people on the phone are sending you things, or how/why the sonitron works that way). As others have noted, people on the phone tend to feel a little too eager to tell you things they probably wouldn’t in real life [spoiler] (Jesus Christ Davide, I’m understanding how the secret police caught you) [/spoiler] but you kind of just have to let that one go. There are a few fun little irrelevant things to find though, like [spoiler] Easter eggs to other games in the genre [/spoiler] or [spoiler] a little side conversation between characters from a previous case [/spoiler] [spoiler] (fly high Cyril Lampley, your only crime was accepting an acting job). [/spoiler]

A game has never made me feel so stupid and smart at the same time. I Highly recommend if you ever want a good detective style game.
