The Pirate Queen with Lucy Liu

This looked quite fun based on the trailers and screenshots, but I was quite disappointed. I only played for around 30 minutes, but that was enough for me to lose interest. I don't think the core idea is bad, but it is executed poorly. Here are my thoughts on issues that could be improved on: - The game is very low fidelity. I assume this is because it was released on Quest as well, but I would've liked to see a quality bump for PCVR. The LOD popping is extremely noticeable. - The main character talks too much. There was nary a second in my 30 minute playthrough where I did not have Lucy Liu in my ear. - The game hand-holds too much. I had to double-check that I did indeed have the "Escape Room" setting on. - The teleport distance is much too short. - One of the first things the game teaches you is how to open containers. You then are presented with a lot of objects that look like they would open (e.g. they have hinges), but you cannot interact with them. - On the point of interaction, you can interact with very few objects. The world feels static. - Objects in the environment have wonky collision. If you place an interactable object on top of a static object with an indent, it will just float in space. - You can only interact with whichever puzzle happens to be the one you should be solving. This makes you think that some things are not interactable, but it is just the case that you need to solve another puzzle first and then do that one. TL;DR: It's not worth it in the current state. Could be a decent short experience with a large amount of polish.

WOW. I still need to finish it, but I LOVE it. I took the Escape Room mode for this game, and it really feels like I need to think about where I go next; the sound and Lucy Liu voice is awesome. I really feel like I am The Pirate Queen, and the environment is on point. I am leaving a story. I had no idea a boat could be that big 😅. I won't lie; the rowing part of the game felt like a workout controlling the speed of the board, and I really like the climbing mechanic. Hope in future updates, I can play with the Quality of the game since I'm playing on my PC. Keep it up

I really enjoyed this game. Thought the Quest challenges were pretty cool and enjoyed finding the collectables. Pretty cheap and have played through twice now and found it just as fun on the harder settings mode. Brings your inner pirate out!

I had such a great time playing The Pirate Queen. The story, based on real historical events, adds a lot of depth and authenticity to the experience, and I appreciated that it seems a lot of attention to detail has gone into the game. One of the most refreshing aspects is the well-developed female protagonist - there aren't enough female characters, let alone protagonists, in games! As a woman, I really appreciate the effort put into creating such a compelling character. Lucy Liu's voice acting is fantastic, by the way, and brings her to life in a memorable way. The innovative and imaginative approach by Eloise Singer and Lucy Liu moves away from the usual focus on violence within this genre of RPG, opting for a more intelligent and intellectually stimulating experience. I happily whiled away a few hours playing this, which felt perfect for VR and this price point, and didn't find myself wishing for combat elements. Overall, I highly recommend The Pirate Queen for its engaging story and immersive gameplay. The story and voice performances make this a wonderfully empowering experience that champions diversity and gender equality. If you're looking for AAA graphics and a long, violent game, this isn't for you. But it's perfect for story enthusiasts and history buffs. I'm excited to read more about Cheng Shih's life story, and cannot wait to watch Singer Studios' film of The Pirate Queen!

I'm about 4 hours into my first playthrough, and enjoying what's proving to be a very immersive, pleasant and narrative-rich VR experience. Lucy Liu's narration is a real added bonus too. Often games set in the past have a very loose grasp of history, but that's not the case here - I can see that the team behind The Pirate Queen have put a lot of time and attention into accurately representing the period, from the locations (ship, shrine, etc) and items and objects in-game, as well as the story of Cheng Shih itself. Looking forward to sharing this with my wife, as she's a big history buff. Overall, The Pirate Queen is a nifty little game for anyone interested in a more chill type of VR experience that prioritises atmosphere and narrative over more traditional hand-to-hand combat. A very memorable experience!

I had an absolute blast playing The Pirate Queen!! The story is really well told, and I loved how there are two different modes, especially the escape room mode which allowed me to really focus on the puzzles. The narrative is super compelling, with a great mix of puzzle escape room vibes and adventure elements, all centred around a fantastic and important story. I tried it on PCVR after the update and had no tech issues at all. It's not a super long game, but the attention to detail is incredible. Every room is just so beautifully done, it blew me away. Plus, it was so refreshing to have a game that I was happy to give to my children to play too. What a joy to have an immersive experience that is both fun and educational! Totally worth the price - I would definitely recommend as one of the must play VR games of the year!
