One thing I've noticed about this game is it lets you ride a dragon in VR.
This game is pretty good. Who doesn't want to ride a dragon? There's many mini-games and things do to. The flight mechanics are pretty good and it really does feel like you're flying a dragon. Not sure why more people don't buy this game! It's a great deal!
If you like Beat Saber style games but with a very nice twist this is good game too buy. Everything else is there for the fans of dragons and roller coaster rides. Here is a gameplay video of this Rhythm game mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpo23vVzWZ8
Full disclosure - I was involved in early testing for this game. I can tell you the lead developer is really respoinsive and a joy to work with. That's the reason this game keeps getting better, and is well worth the $$. Aside from that, this is an honest review for a really fun, must-have in my opinion, VR game that's for everyone. I love dragons myself, like just about everyone that's faithfully watched Game of Thrones, or any other similar story, the dragons are the best part. I had been looking for a dragon-riding game and this is one of the best. It's a cross between an experience, a simulation, and a meditation app all in one. The experience comes into play with the tours you can take around the world that put you in certain vantage points to view the scenery and creatures that inhabit the world(s). The simulation when you free-ride the dragon and make your first take-off, swoop, dive, and firebomb anything in the environment you choose. Part of the simulation includes mini-games that keep getting better with each new update. From a Beat Saber-like balloon game (while riding on a flying dragon) to a find and return the dragon eggs to their nest game, there's plenty to keep your dragon riding skills fresh. The meditation game when you ride and explore the gorgeously detailed world(s), see the day turn into night high in the sky, and fly across the fireworks once they begin. This is my granddaughter's favorite part, next to watching the dragon eggs hatch in the caves. I think this game/experience/meditation app should be in everyone's library, because there's something for everyone, and lots to keep you busy.
DragonRide VR is a very nice experience where you fly on a dragon's back, through some detailed & impressive environments. It's one of those games I tried out of curiosity and find myself returning to as time goes on. On one hand, it's more an experience than a game, however there are many modes that add a game element to it. I have to admit the rhythm ride mode is my favourite and this mode even support custom beatmaps/ songs without installing mods - something that doesn't seem to be noticed yet by the beatsaber players (which is a shame as it deserves more recognition). Motion sickness can be an issue on the harder locomotion settings, luckily there are many options to reduce it to pretty much 'no motion sickness' at all. The game runs incredibly smooth, even on lower end PC's and is still actively being expanded on with new modes/ environments. It feels really made with a lot of passion and dedication which is one of the reasons to check it out and support the developers :)
I've always wanted to experience realistic dragons in VR, so when this one went on sale, I figured I'd give it a shot- but keeping expectations low so as not to be disappointed. Well as soon as I zoned into the super dark lobby area, I was very pleasantly surprised! Just in those first few moments, I turned around and immediately noticed two massive breathing dragons hovering over me with a towering gargoyle statue in between. Their attention to detail and how much they gave off a sense of presence was pretty impressive. I tried out the dragon ride experience (theme park ride style) first with the night environment. Very relaxing and the fireworks show was an unexpected nice touch at the end. After that, moved on to trying out more of the atmospheric environments, along with the variety of game modes/ mini games. From a rhythm style mode reminiscent to a popular VR rhythm game (but with balloons)... to finding dragon eggs/ hitting targets... to flying and controlling a dragon freely... and more. There was a huge learning curve to the flying on my own part for me, but after some time struggling, I was finally becoming somewhat competent. Still need way more practice though. Can't blame the game though cause I'm also just as horrible controlling mounts in other games :P All in all, I ended up finding myself lost in the game for almost an hour on my first try. Which for me was pretty long considering I had already been playing other VR stuff beforehand, in one session, without a break. Definitely will return to explore even more as it is a great escape from real life. Can't wait to show this to my sis who is obsessed with dragons and others. Side note: I played Drakan (an action-adventure fantasy game where you rode a dragon) on PC/ PS2, and I remember how awesome it was to ride a dragon in 3D (3D was really new & cool in the 90's) and just go exploring throughout the world. I loved that game and DragonRideVR feels like I'm back in Drakan's world... literally inside it. Gear used: Valve Index/ Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080Ti
Dragonride VR always has something that I haven't played making the game re-playable in so many ways. If you have played beat Saber you are bound to enjoy rhythm ride due to the similarities but even if you don't like rhythm ride there are so many other choices. Overall the game is fun and will keep you waiting for the next update. Hope good things come to the hand working team, Can't wait!
