Recommended with caveats. The Pathless is a laid back, low-stakes adventure/exploration game. Thanks to a generous auto-aim, the key movement mechanic (shooting targets) feels good as long as you're in motion. Unfortunately, the game requires you to stop and look around a lot, so I never quite hit an ideal flow state with it. The basic game loop is straightforward: solve puzzles for flight boosts and to locate "lightstones." Use lightstones to cleanse towers and generate a bossfight (pursuit sequence + arena). Repeat x4 to open up the finale. The world is massive, and quite beautiful. The puzzles themselves are very simple. The bossfights are low stakes, albeit mildly annoying--it's impossible to die, but many of the arenas use forced perspective, quicktime events, and long knockdown recovery animations if you misplay. Prior to the bossfight, you may encounter the bosses as a roving "storm" which starts a stealth-section. If you're caught, you lose some progress toward your next flight boost but otherwise take no long-term consequence. Once the boss is defeated, that section of the game becomes open to free exploration with no threats to speak of. Overall, I think it's a solid game for people who want 10-15 hours of quiet exploration; I enjoyed it as a decompression game. But if you're looking for precision gameplay, difficult puzzles, or any kind of heavy combat, this is not likely to work for you.
Quite good. Movement is fun, puzzles are above average in quality. Boss fights are decent but have no stakes. Several areas have very sluggish pacing. Music and art style are both great. 7.5/10
Beautiful game
fun and beautifull game
A gorgeous and cinematic game, I loved exploring every nook and cranny to stitch together the wider picture of the story. The music is great, the mechanics are fun (once you get the hang of them), and the story is fascinating. It is sometimes a bit too cinematic for it's own good, I caught it "helping" me out during some boss fights if I was struggling too long with a particular section (to keep the momentum instead of losing it to frustration), but it did come as a relief when it just straight up gave me that Nautilus shell from the timed flight puzzle (I was so bad at that one it wasn't even funny). Overall; another beautiful gem from Giant Squid that lives in my brain rent free, I can't wait to replay it in the future!

For a game that (appears to be) about movement, it sure goes out of its way to keep bringing you to a halt, and not by way of player error. Everything has an extra step. Collectables that in other games would speed you up on contact, you have to aim at, charge a shot and fire at. Want to glide? You have to polish your eagle first. The joy of traversing the environment is kept from you by CHORES, not CHALLENGE.
love this game's movement mechanics, very flowy
