YOU WILL BE SURELY F*CKED, DO NOT WORRY

[Master Difficulty Detailed Review]
I completed this game on the maximum difficulty, and I can confidently say it's one of the hardest "Souls-like" games. If you're a fan of Sekiro, at least you shoud consider this game on hardest difficulty.
Hardcore souls-like with crisp boss animations and no chaotic visual effects
The game features 16 unique bosses. Most of them have multiple phases, unique animations, different attack patterns, huge HP pools, and fast, large-scale attacks. Many encounters require their own strategy rather than simply relying on reflexes. Some you will meet again, but in more difficult circumstances.
You can't create a broken build or something to make bosses unbalanced
In most situations, Kena dies in just 2-3 hits. Bosses have massive health pools, while your own damage often feels very low. Even regular enemies that accompany certain bosses can kill you in only a couple of hits. The levels themselves can be challenging too. You'll often encounter flying enemies launching fireballs and dive attacks. Some bosses bring those same enemies into the arena with them...
Healing is one of the most unforgiving systems in the game
During most boss fights, you'll only have access to 1-3 healing flowers. To activate them, you need Courage energy. Courage is generated by dealing damage, but every time you get hit, you lose part of that resource - This often creates situations where you're forced to fight at 1 HP just to rebuild enough Courage for a heal. The catch is that the same resource is also used for some of your unique attacks, so you always have to make a choice - Take risks and hit a little harder or have the right to make a mistake.
I like a lot the mobility in this game
Kena moves and runs quickly, there's no stamina, dodging works in any direction, fairly quickly and without pauses, dashing allows you to instantly dodge or attack, the shield allows you to continue pressing or survive a mistake, and the bow can even fire powerful unique attacks. Your toolkit is limited to:

Shield
Double Jump
Staff
Bow
Slow-motion archery
Bombs
Dash
Parries (at the perfect timing) and dodges
some other perks and upgrades
You'll need to combine all of these mechanics efficiently and develop an individual approach for almost every boss.
Take skill leveling seriously in a semi-open world before taking on the next boss
I definitely overestimated some things, underestimated others, and completely missed one important mechanic related to overall survivability. Because of that, some bosses took me much longer than necessary - but that's my experience. If you've neglected upgrading the Rot, the game becomes significantly harder. Skill upgrades and staff enhancements also have a noticeable impact on difficulty. Timed combat challenges hidden inside chests can be absurdly difficult, especially if you discover them early in the game. Their rewards are usually cosmetic skins, which often makes the frustration feel disproportionate. Trials are much more enjoyable. They reward Kena cosmetics as well, but usually allow you to choose which challenge condition you want to complete. They're still difficult, just far more fair. As for Crystal Currency... it only allows you to buy skins - Unfortunately, the game gives you a lot of it. The game also contains puzzles. Most are straightforward, except for one candle puzzle.
Technicaly the game feels very smooth

Responsive movement and game physics in general
Good visual clarity during combat, without visual trash on the screen
No 60 FPS cap - High framerate support
DLSS provides substantial performance gains at higher resolutions
Graphics, visual effects, animations, music, atmosphere in general - all of it is excellent. The soundtrack feels unique, the world is beautiful, and the presentation is consistently impressive throughout the entire game. Playing on a controller on Master Difficulty will make things noticeably harder. The game includes a lock-on system, but during fights involving multiple enemies, it often becomes more of a problem than a solution.
There were some things I don't like
- I don't agree with the developer's attempt to sometimes waste my time by making me do a very routine task before the boss every time I die. - I disagree that before the final boss you can't go back for upgrades in the open world - In general, I recommend loot everything possible for upgrades before playing the second half of the game. - I often found myself pressing space and right-click to aim my bow while jumping, but it just didn't work because there was no pause between the two presses, which really annoyed me. - Bugs do exist, most are visual, but I also encountered a few rare serious ones.
Conclusion
At first, it will seem to you that the game is not very difficult, but everything will change when you meet the third boss. This is genuinely a difficult game. What surprises me most is how rarely Kena gets mentioned among Souls-like fans. Ironically, the developers classify it as: Action, Adventure, Indie Technically that's correct, but in practice, this is a Souls-like first and foremost, but without without builds. Everything revolves around one goal: Defeat increasingly difficult bosses. There is no alternative path. There is no overpowered build. You either learn the fights, or you lose. Hunter boss I liked the most. The bosses that were the hardest weren't at the end of the game: Wood Knight, Taro, Stone Guardian, Woodsmith.
P.S. Don't pay too much attention to the "Beat the game on Master Difficulty" achievement statistics. Over the years, various exploits, save-load tricks, and file modifications have allowed players to obtain it without completing a legitimate Master Difficulty playthrough. Because of that, I strongly believe the number of players who actually beat Master Difficulty is significantly lower than the achievement statistics suggest.
_____________8__88_____8 ____________88_8__8_____8 ___________888_____88___88888 __________8888______88_8____88 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______8_______8 _________8888_____8_______8 __________88888____8______8 ___________8888888______8 __888_________88888_8 8888888________88_____ _8888888_______8_____ __888888_______88_____ ___88_____8_____8_____ ____8______8____8_____8_88 _______8888_8__88_8_88888 _____888888_8_88__8888888 ____8888888__88______88888 ____88888_____8_________888 ____88_________8__________8 _____8_________8_____ _______________8_____ ____________8_8_____ _____________88_8_____ ______________88_____ ______________8_____
Absolute masterpiece of an indie game! Don’t let the cute, Pixar-like visuals fool you, underneath its gorgeous art style is a deeply moving story and surprisingly challenging, tight combat. Finding and collecting the little Rot companions is incredibly charming, and clearing the corruption from the world feels so rewarding.
I'm really sad for leaving negative review for Kena but it just has too many flaws. I'm hoping that upcoming sequel will adress at least some of them. Combat is nothing to write home about, it is repetitive with not much options, but serviceable. What is not good at all are boss fights, one of them (Hunter) would be at the very top of the worst designed fight I have ever encountered. Yes they are considerable jump in difficulty compared to the rest of the game but that ain't the problem. In one of them there are non-stop spawns of minions you have to deal with and thanks to that and low fov you can't see main boss most of the time and he just jumps at you from the end of the arena, and those are much larger than they are supposed to be to accomodate this rotten design. Silver lining is when compared to Hunter all other bosses are as good as First Sinner from Silksong. Story is bland, boring, bad, call it whatever you like. I'm always eager to see cutscenes in this types of games, but in this one I was mostly on the phone, just listening in the background and wait for them to finish. Main character development - big fat zero which was the most disappointing. The other 2-3 characters we have are important as the npc characters from MMO games, blank slates, contributing nothing. Exploration and discovery - I had high expectations at least from this aspect of the game. It didn't deliver either - throughout the whole game map basically looks the same. It feels like they bought a couple of UE assets and randomly generated the whole world. Some puzzles were ok, but a lot of time they were just busywork. The game looks ok, main character looks nice and we have cute creatures that are following her, but that was the only positive thing I can say about the game. Here's hoping that Scars of Kosmora will be a lot better and more diverse with game world and puzzles if not for combat.
I kept myself away from this game for a long time, and now I realize how wrong I was , this isn’t just a game , it feels like an experience that leaves a mark on the soul, the visuals are like moving paintings, the story pulls you into its world, and the soundtrack gives every moment life , beyond its challenge, what makes it truly special is how it makes you feel because the greatest creations are the ones that stay with you long after they end.
Kena: Bridge of Sprits has engaging combat, lush creative oriental environments, beautiful animation, fantastic symphonic music, and everything comes together making it more than the sum of its parts. Combat is fun and challenging. If your controller supports motion, enable it the Steam settings- really completes the combat. Upgrade your bombs so they spread to nearby enemies upon exploding. Throw a bomb high in the air towards a group of enemies, then leap up and trigger slow-motion, then fire your bow at the bomb as it gets near them for an awesome domino effect. Never gets old! I'd like to see less input lag and allow blocking/parrying in the air in the next one. Looking forward to the sequel Scars of Kosmora releasing later this year.
I love the combat in this game, much more skillful and challenging than I expected and great bosses, each one felt very unique and different from one another but none felt like they didn't belong or are suddenly just way to strong out of nowhere. The platforming and puzzles were fun never felt like they were to much or to hard. And despite all that the story alone is worth this game. It is told in such a beautiful way that makes you so engaged and invested in the story and characters. Easiest 10/10.
