Excellent game. Loved every minute. The premise and story are very good and the game looks great. The voice acting is top notch especially since the main character is voiced by the actor who voices Geralt in the witcher games. I love the use of the pendulum for investigation and also for other uses that become learned along the journey through the game. i feel like the games length is perfect. I never once felt like i wanted the game to be over because the story was so interesting. The core game play is investigation and solving mysteries that all tie into the main story. I love that the character has a journal and he writes down everything and even has nice artwork pictures in it as well to use as story guide. There is some combat but it is not very difficult once you learn how to use the pendulum properly. The game ran excellent on my RTX 3060 with 12 GB VRAM. I ran everything on high at 1080p and had zero issues and no crashes. No bugs were encountered either which is very rare in gaming today. Overall i highly recommend giving this game a try especially with the price being so reasonable. I have paid more for bad games than I paid for this great horror and occult game. If you like the occult and horror this is absolutely a must play.
As a horror fan who is also a big giant chicken, I found this game to be seriously lacking in any sort of tension or build up. I do feel like that would've made the scary moments more impactful. That said, I quite enjoyed the story and the aesthetic and it was a fun game for my community and I to experience together on stream. Pros: - beautiful game - soundtrack on point - entertaining - Doug Cockle is great even if he does sound exactly like Geralt the whole time lol - jumpscares absolutely caught me off guard a few times - the artwork in the book as you investigate is very cool Cons: - the lack of tension had me not scared to walk around and explore, I feel like having that tension is a big part of a good horror game - the story was a little hard to follow towards mid to late game, but things do tie together in the end - some performance blips when streaming and I have a pretty good PC The cons were not enough to make me not recommend this game. I think it's a fun adventure experience. Perhaps if you're looking for a good horror game experience, this maybe wouldn't be the game for you. If you want a fun game with an interesting story, especially if you have a community to share the experience with, then I absolutely recommend it.
Pros: graphics smooth gameplay interesting visuals Alright but needs improvement: Story is good, but very badly delivered at some times. Reminding the players several times about important elements, which was unnecessary. Delivery and some plot moments are delivered quite stiffly and or out out of nowhere. Each location feels unique, but are missing depth. There is not a lot to do or look for and after some time feels very railroady. There are collectibles, but I think the game could have benefited from more of them. Also some more pieces of lore to be found around the map for players to read. Cons Powers, are interesting, but are in my opinion not used enough in the game. There are many places and locations I was hoping to see more with the pendulum or be able to interact with the world, reveal secret locations and or discover mysteries, but in the end some of the powers became useless for large gameplay parts. Some parts of the story feel very railroad, and are missing in exploration and interactivity. The main voice actor did a great job, but the script was rather bad at many moment.
It took me about seven-and-a-half hours to reach the end, including multiple deaths and the occasional stumbling block. The Occultist is certainly a great way to ramp up the adrenaline levels, but be forewarned that for some this game might be too harrowing an experience with a lot of jump scares and eerie soundscapes made by things going bump in the night, some of which are determined to have you join them on the other side. The threat of death is everywhere, and one can easily fall prey to the ghosts and ghouls – and even a couple of bosses – haunting Godstone. It may be light on actual puzzles, but the supernatural powers at your disposal add a welcome element to the many scavenger hunts around the Island. Ultimately, though, for those who want a good scare, this one is for you. https://adventuregamehotspot.com/review/6577/the-occultist
A budget indie horror game, many of the environmental textures are blurry, the HDR is broken, the sound is only stereo, no ambient sound whatsoever, which is a huge drawback for a horror game. The graphics are average at max settings in 4K and are mediocre. It's a 70-80% discount for fans of the genre. Developers, you'd be better off adding 5.1 surround sound instead of implementing crappy HDR, which completely ruins the gamma, turning black into gray. I had to use RTX HDR on an OLED display. Shame on you.
I would give it a neutral review if I could. This game is for someone but not me, basic ghost style horror. Don't trust the tags on this one, there were no Lovecraftian elements that I could find. No madness or cosmic insignificance to be found.
Wizyta w pierwszym napotkanym domostwie rozwieje szybko wszelkie wątpliwości. Misja poszukiwawcza zamienia się w walkę o własne życie, połączone z koniecznością odkrycia ponurej prawdy o sekciarskich praktykach wyspiarzy sprzed kilku dekad. Będzie to opowieść zabarwiona goryczą i poczuciem straty. O poszukiwaniu sposobu, aby pokonać śmierć, by odwrócić to co nieuniknione. W swojej początkowej formie bohater przykłada go sobie do oka i analizuje otoczenie, poszukując jaśniejących przedmiotów. - H.P.
It is a beautifully made game. Reminded me of Silent Hill and Layers of Fear somewhat. The riddles are not hard but still entertaining. The atmosphere of the locations is mesmerizing. Loved the soundtrack too. As a big fan of the paranormal and the occult I just fell in love with this game! Controls are very comfortable. Ah, and that voice! Great voice acting!
