About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions
+1000 in-game dialogues
+30 minutes OST
+30 hours of gameplay
Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

Are you the type of freak who thinks that building an alien language dictionary from first principles is fun? (Hello, friend!) If you like the concept of this game, you can buy with confidence. First: yes, the game 100% sticks to the conceit: you really will be starting from nothing, creating your own dictionary for alien communication, starting purely with universal laws of math and logic, but building towards concepts you might at first think impossible: emotions, philosophy, even metaphysics. I found it awe-inspiring. It's also extremely challenging at times. Thankfully you're helped by your in-game fellow scientists, who can provide small and larger prompts with the optional 'ideas', 'hypotheses', and reference pages. I encourage you to lean on these! Unless you're a polymath, there'll be some topic area that is just too far out of your wheelhouse. (For me: I spent a lot of time in the 'Chemistry' reference.) The one area I found weaker is that in the late-game, the scientist ideas and reference pages seemed to dry up a bit, right when I needed them most. I did need to cautiously search online for hints, for several sequences in the final few acts. That's a shame, because it's absolutely worth sticking through right to the beautiful ending! One thing I really didn't expect is how much heart this game would have. I loved the conversations between the scientists and their gradually-revealed characters. But I especially loved what emerged over the course of the translation task. It defied my expectations multiple times, and I mean that in the best way!

Stopped Playing during Act VIII. I found the abstract concepts where not explained in enough detail to figure out its meaning and to many similar singnals where intreduced at once without the need to do so. Why would you define 3 Different ways of saying bad to simply say death is bad. I needed to look up all translations and event with these translations i could not solve half of the messages, because knowing if they expect -156, -154, -152, or -127 is nearly impossible (nearly the same meaning). Looking in to future Solutions, i can see that most of these symbols are not used again. I think it would have been better to spend some more time exploring good and bad and going through more examples than simply something dies and that is bad. Something lives and that is good.
I love the puzzles and the setting, the banter in the (NPC) team is funny and refreshing.
the beginning will run you through a gauntlet of every high school science and math class you ever took, the ending will run you through a gauntlet of feelings
game is great ! amazing concept, characters, worldbuilding, immersion, and puzzels. really gets me thinking hard. my one and only problem is the fact it makes my computer blow up. lowest graphics settings still drains the battery like crazy. i wish there was a setting to get rid of object rendering and basically just have the 2 screens without any effects. just buttons and somewhere to type and a textbox for when characters speak. thank you for an amazing game and i hope a graphics setting like that comes out.
The first game to let me larp my actual dream job. The "puzzles" are grounded and clever. While I initially found the sillier parts of the writing a little grating, it really grew on me, and the game certainly delivers on emotional impact in a way I was not expecting going in. It can be frustrating at times, when you have figured out what is being asked for but are struggeling with the formatting, but I can easily forgive it that. Very clearly a labour of love and deserving of attention.
What starts out as a fun little puzzle game with funny voices ends up being genuinely challenging and one of the best games I've played in a while. Some of the puzzles are really tough - I play a lot of puzzle/deduction games and still struggled. The hint system is super well-made though and actually fun to use. But the heart of this game, what puts it way above other puzzle games, is...well, its heart. The other characters, as abstract as they are, each have their own personality and quirks. You get to know and love them throughout the game. The story unfolds brilliantly one message at a time. Having played 32 hours I would gladly play 30 more.
worth the $10, played for 16 hours straight when i first bought it
not for people who love languages but hate math, i dont need these aliens teaching me what 1+1 is, i want the mf to teach me how to say fk you in alienish
