About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions
+1000 in-game dialogues

Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

Did you watch the scene from Project Hail Mary where Grace and Rocky first begin to establish translations for each other and think "Wow, that was so cool"? This game is basically that. Its a puzzle about establishing basic shared concepts between you and an alien species using STEM subjects. Currently I am still on sections only involving math, but I know that as the game goes on, the questions begin to reference other fields. If you are a bit of a nerd and like puzzles, problem-solving, and sci-fi then I would definitely recommend this game. I mean I would recommend it to anyone, but you especially.
I've never had this much fun and satisfaction from doing this much maths and science before. It's such a unique concept. And the fact that the game manages to make me adore the characters amongst all the math, logic, and language is just plain impressive. Getting a "Clean" from Bautista, Collins joining in with "happy dictionary, happy life", and Akers growing as a person and a professional. Top tier characters.

玩到
group 70
左右,强烈地感受到一种玩星际拓荒时的感动。 Reaching about
group 70
, a similar sentiment of being moved when playing Outer Wilds strongly hit me.
Clean.
Great game
Very creative puzzle game along with good writing, a good soundtrack and a nice aesthetic. A breath of fresh air in the gaming industry. Edit: There are a few mistakes and inconsistencies here and there, but for a game made by a single developer and a game containing so many different puzzles, its more than acceptable. Still a great game
A beautifully original concept. Well executed, if slightly challenging at times due to ambiguous syntax. A fantastic game which builds real atmosphere and tells a wonderful story while you solve the puzzles.
tldr: slow and dry at times, but there's nothing else like it. Try the demo, you'll see what you're getting. There have been a number of games puzzle games focusing on new languages recently, with Chant of Sennaar being the most mainstream that I've seen. This one is definitely the deepest, albeit probably not the most accessible. There is no hand-holding on this one, no pictures to see, no context to compare. Just pure words for you to try and understand. And they build too, which is something that I've not seen other language games do. Getting the definition of one word slightly off changes the interpretation of subsequent words. Some of the nuances are subtle... Humanity could be a race, a civilization, a culture. There are multiple words for "is" (as I interpreted it). They have an alien grammar. There really is not another experience like this that I've ever seen. With that said, the game is very dry sometimes. Methodically cataloging numeric, physical, chemical technical terms takes up an obnoxiously large part of the game. That's not a criticism.. I'm sure real contact with an alien would involve a ton of that. It's not especially "fun" though. So just be aware, if you buy this, you're signing up for that. My only real criticism is that the game kinda had two interconnected puzzles. What do the words and messages mean (which I loved) and what should our response be to advance (which I hated). There are so many intuitive leaps that need to be made when lots of different responses are true, but not correct. "What happens after a child is born?" Well... parents are happy. Parents love child. Parents raise child. Child grows. Child eventually has their own children. Child learns, child walks, child speaks... which of those is right? If your response isn't accepted, was it because your answer was wrong? you picked the wrong synonym? the grammar was incorrect? You misunderstood one of the words? The fill-in-the-blank response system works well for simple subjects, but is incredibly frustrating when you start talking about ideas and feelings. Anyway... my friends criticize that I like "interesting" games over "good" ones, and this definitely fits that model. This game is long and at times, slow and frustrating... but there really isn't anything out there that does language nearly as well as this game. Dev(s) ApplesInMyPants! I salute you!
Unexpected masterpiece. The concept is simple, yet it keeps building on itself so competently and passionately that you will be amazed many times by its revelations. It's kinda hard at times and there's a huge amount of content but all of it feels purposeful. Starting this game, I didn't expect I'd get to talk to a rock about an ancient alien species' cultural dichotomy on their biology and self-realization, and get emotional when the rock made its final sound, but I've been absolutely fascinated by this game from beginning to end. The gameplay is simple : you get a signal expecting an answer and you try to figure out what to send back so it gets to the next signal. But you have to figure out what every single frequency sent means and build the dictionary yourself. It starts with basic math then moves to logic, geometry, physics, chemistry, complex language, and from there expands on a lot of unexpected subjects, each single message allowing you to communicate more and more concepts. To help you figure out definitions and answers, you get 3 colleagues that will remark on what message the signals convey or what the current signal might be expecting as a type of answer. And at the end of every "week" (group of transmissions blocks), you all meet up with your boss and talk about advancements and revelations have been uncovered. All characters have their interests and quirks and are very charming as they open up during the translation.
A very enjoyable puzzle game with a unique premise. Deciphering an alien language through math was incredibly satisfying! It reminded me a bit of Project Hail Mary... The puzzles made me dust off knowledge from my school years, but they never felt overly difficult. My only complaint is that I wish there were more improvements to the interface as the game progressed. It starts off well, but by the mid-game I found myself wanting better formatting options and more screen space. I spent 34 hours playing, and the fact that I barely noticed the time passing says everything. I'd definitely recommend it - just be aware that it involves a fair amount of math. -245 -30 -243
^_^ (Alan Akers,Bryan Bautista,Carrie Collins,Douglas Doppler)
