About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions

Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

Wonderful mystery / language decyphering game mixed with math problems. When I started, I was intrigued, each discovery I felt smart. Then very early I ran into roadblocks because I misunderstood the premise - I was subconciously trying to decode some Assembly language with very strict rules, like I would in the game if it was made by Zachtronics. That's when it clicked, I wasn't deciphering a programming language, but an actual one. There are rules, but they are more pliable. Not everything has to be followed by a semicolon, preceded by equals signs, order of statements does not matter as long as you get your point across... But then I kept solving math problems for 100 levels and started to wonder "is this it? It's still a math problems puzzle game, so why aren't the rules clearer?" Then the transmission hits you with -45 -40 -44 0 -39 -46 -41 my jaw dropped and I was hooked.

An absorbing game, may at times feel a bit like reviewing your school education but juggling word definitions and trying to find words for things that clearly don't match 1:1 to English words is engaging. Sometimes a bit picky about answers but that's what you'd expect from an alien probe that's basically a recording of inputs and outputs.
just hit 150 and I can say its definitely pretty fun and hits the Chants of Sennaar/Outer Wilds type of itch. My only issue so far is that for a decent amount of the game, the correct keywords are apparent from the first time they appear and then you have to slog through boring logic expressions where the only hard part is keeping track of which variable is which. Gonna keep playing tho cuz I've seen other reviews saying it gets more interesting and I imagine other disciplines that aren't math/cs are probably gonna be more engaging for me? idk
Genuinely touching and fantastic language-and-science-based puzzle game. Couple of minor bugs (the 237 one was the most notable but has been fixed with 1.2.0) but the dev is still polishing and fixing things quickly. The UI takes a bit of getting used to but is very suitable for the atmosphere. The
alien units
section of the reference could maybe do with more of the
unit conversions
being included but it doesn't come up much. Some of the answers can be a little difficult and use some more possible response variations but it wasn't too disruptive either. Would honestly recommend to almost anyone who likes puzzles.
