Absolutely great game, a huge amount of production quality that really elevates the experience. First and foremost the music is excellent, very charming art and animation throughout. Please ignore the playtime, I had it up during work on accident. It's not super long, and I'm sure quite short if you decide to skip through dialogue for some reason? The story is quite good, it's funny without veering in to goofy territory, never really taking away from the gravity of serious situations or wearing out it's welcome. The mystery for each character is not the most complicated, but its satisfying and understandable. There are a few puzzles, objects, clues, etc. where the way they fit together will be quite obvious but it takes the characters a bit to realize how they work, but its a fine design compromise since that often means the solution is quite close by. In terms of actual puzzle difficult, it is not a hard game by any means. Please ignore the hours played, I left the game up during a shift at work, padding it significantly. While its not a hard game, the puzzles are satisfying. I would recommend turning off all hints if you are experienced to make it more of a challenge. Easily the best game in the series so far and I would highly recommend it, so far my favorite game to release this year. The charm really goes a long way. Worth the price tag up front for the production quality alone. Another charming element is the continuity between each game, it's really quite special. Looking forward to the next entry, keep 'em coming.
This was so much fun, I hope SFB makes a million more of these. The writing, the puzzle design, the voice acting, the music, the art, the animation... it's all firing on all cylinders and is just genuinely a joy to experience.
Gran Juego. Ojala y sigan sacando mas
Incredible! I love the first 2 games: Secret of the Swamp and Tangle Tower. I was very excited to play The Mermaid Mask and was not disappointed! I recommend playing Secret of the Swamp then Tangle Tower before this one as there are a lot of references, mostly to Tangle Tower.
Very fun, I think the story's also more focused than the previous
I really enjoyed this! The characters are well-realised and unique. The sheer number of voice-acted and animated interactions is very impressive (it must be over 1000). The art is gorgeous - 2D digitally painted environments, 3D modelled clues with digitally hand-painted textures, and expressive, characterful animations combine to create a fantastic atmosphere and sense of place. The plot has a good mix of humour and intrigue. A couple technical issues/gripes: - The UI doesn't always extend to the edges of ultrawide displays (3440x1400) and partial screen elements are visible that would normally be hidden on a more conventional aspect ratio. Subtitles on a section at the end of the game are also cut off when using this display. - Controller support worked, but there are no button mappings other than "move the cursor" and "select". It would be a lot nicer if some of the buttons could be used to quickly move to another screen or open case files. - Pressing escape just toggles full screen vs windowed instead of showing a settings menu. There *is* a settings menu, but it's only accessible on certain screens (like the submarine overworld). If I want to change volume mid-dialogue because the background music is coming in too loud, I need to end the interaction, go to a different area, open the settings, tweak the volume, go back to where I was and start the interaction again. It's a bit awkward. Those minor issues aside, it's a great game! Looking forward to see what the studio does next.
Love this series. The voice acting is always amazing. The music is always amazing. The puzzles are unique and the perfect amount of challenging. Love the art and writing style. Totally worth playing.
