As a huge fan of the previous Grimoire games, I could not have been more excited for the release of The Mermaid Mask. In fact, I downloaded Steam for the first time a couple of years ago just so that I could get updated when it came out! So trust me when I say that The Mermaid Mask is everything its predecessors were, and much more. To be clear, I think that you can easily enjoy this game as a standalone experience as well, as long as you are ok with some references going over your head. As for my review, I would give The Mermaid Mask an enthusiastic 11/10. The writing is witty, with many moments that genuinely made me laugh out loud. The story is the perfect balance of making you feel smart when you notice a little detail that turns out to be important or make a correct prediction, while also throwing you plenty of great twists that you feel like you could've seen coming if only you'd payed more attention. The puzzles all feel unique and aren't too easy or too hard. The art is incredible, and full of so much care and personality. Everything, from the characters, to the backgrounds, to the clues, is perfection. I also really enjoyed getting a glimpse of how these were designed in the gallery that you can explore once you've reached the end. If you are on the fence about getting the game, just do it. You won't regret it! If anyone at SFB games is reading this, I know that a fourth Grimoire game would be a huge undertaking and that you probably need a break from the series after spending years working on this one game alone. But still, I sincerely hope that Grimoire and Sally's adventures will continue on!
