Looking at the Lost Soul's store page, the striking, minimalist pixel art and beat-driven soundtrack immediately reminded me of two precision platforming classics, Fred Wood's LOVE and Kuso. While not quite on par with those titles, the Lost Soul remains a solid and enjoyable platformer. The soundtrack offers a nice variety of instrumental beats, cycling through tracks as one ends, often with a conspicuous fadeout where I'd rather it looped or transitioned more smoothly. Reaching a new level starts new music, but the result still left each level lacking the sense of identity as those in Love or Kuso. I finished my first easy run in about 40 minutes and found the difficulty quite managable - most of the challenge lies in timing the avoidance of obstacles rather than the platforming itself, which is fairly simple. The simple aesthetic makes the screen incredibly easy to read - level geometry is white, anything that will kill you is red, and the player and checkpoints are blue. The factory design is fairly abstract, but over the course of the game, the environments slowly reveal the purpose of the facility, leading to a satisfying little payoff.
The first thing you will probably notice launching the first level of the game is your “character” movement and how does the control feel. It lacks your usual precise and deft controls. There is also no way to control your pace and mobility and has only one possible way to pass a trap. You can’t gain more speed or let go “jump” button a bit earlier so that you could manage your height, and if you died, that’s because you missed the timing and it’s all about it. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, this is simply the way this game works, by it’s own rules. It does not by any chance limit you in a bad way, since all levels are adjusted to this mechanic with a high variety of traps, which excludes the possibility of cheap deaths. There are also no such head aches as misjudging distance and height, so it's only timing you should worry about. The Lost Soul is a great game in it’s own way and shows how to create something descent with limited resources. Come on, the price is ridiculous, you can’t expect too much from this project.
A well-styled and neat challenge-based platformer, and a first product of it's kind, that I personally adore a lot. What's to say, it is the first challenging game that I was really looking forward to accomplish, and have managed to beat to the very end
even though it was the easy level of difficulty, but hey
. The game has a totally decent color palette, lots of innovative trials&traps, and a bunch of hidden places (that include easter eggs, secret paths and more). Couldn't forget to mention the storyline, that will reveal you the whole plot at the very end (you'll be surprised!). Definetely recommend.
A decent small platformer. Controls nicely. Worth to try ff you enjoy challange and have about an hour to spend.
Nostalgic game that takes you back in time when all that the game needed was round object as hero and tons of traps as villian. P.S. Secrets included
I beat Lost Soul on Hard (100 Lives 45 Minutes) and it took me a few runs to find the secrets. I do not recommend this game because the controls are clunky and the respawn mechanics double killed me at least a dozen times.
Нашёл ящики с пометкой "TI4 Barracks". GOTY
Nice game. It looks like old ATARI 2600 games. Soundtrack is pretty cool, levels are not so hard. For that price you can enjoy it.
