Now how exactly does the game feel? Rest assured I promise controls are not annoying nor a bother. Their simple and easy to remember, picture taking a first person crafting game and just make it more of a puzzle type with a suspenseful environment that doesn't focus on jump scares. From the walk through video above it is in Early Access, so if there is any sort of lags or glitches that's normal. While playing through which that video of my early access gameplay doesn't feature commentary like we had on the other videos. Instead it was to engage in the gameplay, allowing the atmosphere and Mimi Page's chilling music work its way down to your spine, sending goosebumps through out your whole body. Tessa and I get play The Lighthouse Free Demo to start getting a feel of what to expect ourselves, sense mentioned above of not knowing about another kickstarter that I missed a chance at backing. And at the end result, Tessa and I were pleased with what Shadow Knights Studio has been working on to at the time, be putting out into the world. So what about the early access? First of all, I want to thank thank thank, Shadow Knights Studio for emailing us a key to check out their game. It meant a lot to us, and well. Their the first studio to allow us to review their game, try it and be apart of their amazing Knights that helped bring their game to life. So Shadow Knights Studio, thank you for your kind gesture. Onto the game with our little summary review. The Lighthouse is going to be the next big horror title, because of the work put into this alone. Four people plus Mimi Page composing the terrific haunting tunes, which you can see our little review of this spine chilling soundtrack. Put their blood, sweat and tears into creating these amazing acts. It really shows too, once you get near the water. As we all know, water is the most difficult to create within the gaming world. Let the water tides come in. We play a father that is also starting to play hide and seek with his daughter, Lily. After a simple yet right to the point tutorial of controls, we dive into the world of "The Lighthouse". Not long after do we face the real chills, emotional scenes that would hit any normal person right at the heart. Afterwards, it's the aftermath. Now the father has a drinking problem and can't even function with the loss of his daughter, it seems there's no hope. But it all starts by heading up to Maine, tracking down a lost girl named Lily. Once arrived to the destination of Maine, a little more tutorial is brought of how to craft items. Like a flashlight which helps us be able to see into those dark corners where we wouldn't be able to see (noticed my mistake in the video on top). From there it's just a small little objectives and ends Act I by entering the Manor, where it all begins. Shadow Knights Studio debut release of The Lighthouse is a MUST PLAY, no exceptions. If you dig the suspenseful, puzzle solving, craft building thrills of a game. Look no where else and show support for these independent creators, I assure you it'll be worth every penny. Also grab a copy of the soundtrack from Mimi Page to support solo artists that create a tale within the music, and once playing with both. It's a never ending experience right to the core, especially how well they inserted the music into this game is awesome. "The Lighthouse, an emotional haunting ride."
the lighthouse is beautiful, the story is interesting and the whole setup is gripping. i had no bugs, glitches or other issues playing the game eventho it is early access, you guys have done an amazing job. the only thing noteworthy is i got an achievement for "watching all of the end credits" before having even entered the manor
Update 2: hope is gone, the dev is not even responding to pings on his discord anymore. Even the most devoted followers seem to finally be acknowledging it doesn't look well. 4 years after my original review I must finally change it to negative. It had promise. If anything changes eventually (there are those occasional cases of games on hold for a long time that eventually get released), I'll update this, but for now: don't buy. Update: I wrote this a long time ago, hoping for regular updates and eventually, a finished game. I haven't fully lost hope yet, but it's been so long that it's starting to fade. I will leave this as a positive recommendation out of that remaining hope, but I'd advice against buying this until something else happens. The discord is barely active, the developer acknowledges little free time to work on the game, it's not looking good right now. This is a very interesting, engaging, atmospheric game. It may be a bit pricey for what it offers as of now, but when it is complete, it may be too cheap. So far, it's really really good. Although it is a bit short, it has an amazing cinematic feel to it; you care very deeply for the main character - even before finishing the prologue -, which is a very hard thing to accomplish; it has very few, very minor bugs (meaning what's there looks nearly done); and the final game will include a lot more stuff, even in these chapters that have already been released (like collectibles, new non-essential items, etc). I really hope it won't be that long until the full game releases, but so far, I can say that it looks very promising. The developer is also very active on the discord page, so if you get discouraged because you don't see that many news here, try checking it out. I'm looking forward to seeing how this thing will evolve and improve in the future...
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wow! this fine piece of horror game is just lying around like its nothing special. for the current state it looks really promising, and the its terrifiying too! i hope the devs can hurry with the next chapter ;D
I have given up on this game ever being completed and decided to play before i delete. Do not buy this game unless you just like throwing money away. Years ago i bought this for 14.99. It is sad because this game of 1 chapter about an hour could have been a great one. the founders(husband and wife) of this company work currently and founded SKS Creative and a mortgage company. This game should be removed from steam and at 24.99 still selling is fraud and scammish behavior.
Very promising start, better than I expected! Pretty short currently but hoping to see more content soon. I've always loved the idea of a horror/thriller game at a lighthouse as it's very isolated, dangerous, and atmospheric, and this game captures that very well. One puzzle and "chase" are a bit obtuse and my machine's performance was a bit all over the place (970 with 6th gen i7 and 16Gb RAM was averaging about 45-50 frames) especially when running. Hoping they can wrap it up nicely!
Though this was a great game. Short because early access but awesomely atmospheric and creepy.
Do not buy. I supported this with the understanding that it'd be updated with more content, but it has not received any updates in years. It's too short, too unfinished to justify the price. What's there is good, but it isn't enough. Do not buy.
