About
The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is a narrative-driven RPG that comes to life on the pages of the protagonist's journal. Set in a ruthless world where any form of dissent is mercilessly crushed, the story follows a man who has dared to challenge the existing order. Set out on a lifelong journey and become an individual able to carve out their own destiny... But remember that freedom never comes cheap.
Life in the Great Arknian Empire is harsh and its hardest Lot is yours by the circumstance of birth. You are a commoner, holding no rights and no title. To seize your fate and become the rightful heir to the legacy of the Brante family you will have to come to grips with ossified tradition and prejudice. Embarking on a life-long journey from one's birth until true death, you will have to endure great upheavals, face adversity, and make many difficult choices. Every decision will affect not only the protagonist, his family, and loved ones, but may even topple the foundation of the Empire itself.

At the turn of time
Every imperial citizen's life is predetermined by their estate. The deities known as the Twin Gods have bestowed this truth to the world, dividing mortals into Lots. The nobles lead and rule over others, while the clergy guides people on the one true path, and the lowborn suffer, toiling away for the glory of the Empire. You may accept your fate without question, but it is also in your power to change the cosmic order that governs all.

Your choice is not an illusion
Divided into chapters, the game keeps track of the player's deeds, the skills they acquired, as well as other overlapping circumstances that shape a unique plotline for each playthrough. Every decision has its consequences and you will be held accountable throughout the entire journey. To protect your family and loved ones, to impose the rule of the Emperor and make a fortune, or to try and change the world as you see fit... Make your choice, but beware of the follies of pride and ambition.

Fight for your life
One man is anything but omnipotent in this realm yet under your guidance, Sir Brante may become a person who can endure every trial fate throws at him and rewrite the very laws that govern his world! Develop and train your character, leveling up such traits as determination, sensitivity, and endurance. All of the hero's skills, starting with those acquired in infancy, will affect his personality, worldview, and relationships, ultimately unlocking new talents and possible storylines.

Find your own path
The first complete walkthrough can take you upwards of 15 hours! Numerous branching paths that affect the unfolding story will make every playthrough a unique experience: become a noble judge, learn the ways of the inquisition, plot a revolution as a member of a secret society, or embrace an entirely different purpose. Be brave and fate itself shall bend to your will!

There and hereafter
Resurrection system allows the character to keep his experience upon death, letting the player reevaluate past steps and make adjustments to their strategy going forward. Take control not only of your life but also your demise, then put everything at stake in this cycle of death and rebirth!

Would've never found myself getting this game BUT. Got it free as Steam always blesses us like that but so far I have absolutely LOVED this game investing HOURS in and out of the game to the story. I've truly found myself invested in this world thinking about whats going on and really deciding on what decisions to make weighing things out and I REALLY love how its done. In games like Fallout sometimes you make a decision but it doesn't go exactly as you wanted it but so far when I make a descision theres no hidden or second meaning that I didn't mean for it to be.
I got the game while it was on a 100% discount and I can only recommend trying it if you see it for free. The main issue to me is that the game deliberately undermines its own strongest premise for the sake of making an unspoken "profound point" through its mechanics. To explain, early on you are sold on the idea that stats are highly important in this game. Personal traits, family reputation and later on even professional stats and even stats relating to revolution. The reality is that none of them actually matter beyond being used to unlock choices in arbitrary events that are designed to railroad you into a specific type of playthrough. You very rarely feel like the choice itself is even interesting, you just need it in order to get other stats you need or avoid reaching a critical threshold and locking yourself out of a story arc you were invested in. For example you have a Valor stat that is supposed to be a reflection of your martial prowess. Around the midpoint of the game there is a tournament you can end up participating in. So long as you have enough Valor to be in this rout, it does not matter how much of it you actually have, your outcome will always be the same. You can barely qualify or have the stat actually maxed out but you will have the exact same result in the tournament with the exact same description, and again even with the stat maxed you can not win the tournament. Unless.....you practiced fencing with your father, who is not very good at fencing, at the very start of the game. In that case even if your Valor is not that high you win the tournament by default. Also the few times your character does have the option to get into fights later on, you always die as a result no matter what your Valor is. Later on the game becomes even more contrived. It was deliberately designed in such a way as to ensure that certain outcomes can never be combined, even though the entire playthrough you have been balancing the various stats out to achieve those outcomes. Want to achieve hereditary nobility status AND keep your family members united? Too bad, the moment you unite your family the game LITERALLY forces your reputation to be disgraced by hitting you with a unavoidable random event which sets your reputation to 0 no matter how high it previously was. This gets even worse in the very final chapter where THE LITERAL EVENT ORDER ensures that you can never achieve a 'good' conclusion to the story. There are plenty of ways to get this stat maxed during the final chapter but wait...right before the final confrontation you get an event that should be trivial to resolve but man, it just so happens to cost you a single point in that one stat no matter what. And wouldn't you know it...there is no way for you to restore it in time for the conclusion of the game which requires this exact stat to be maxed in order to not be locked out of any of the two good endings. So I spent some time, skipping through the game and with some trial and error got everything to mostly work out the way I wanted it to, completely taking me out of whatever stakes the game had built up. And what was it all for, what conclusion did I get with the ending? "Reputation, career, personal traits, characters, trying to achieve some kind of goal in the world? All those things you spent hours caring about and trying to balance and weigh them against each other? None of these things actually matter! Do you get it? It was very cringe to care about any of this mundane, worldly stuff because god is love, everyone is part of a greater whole and also the world itself is canonically someones dream probably" Deep.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

All your siblings are uncooperative degenerates and get your family disgraced, maxing out valor is the death% speedrun despite what the tooltip says, and you can die as a child over a box of tin soldiers.

There's a lot to love about this game - the setting is creative (an infrequently used French Revolution-era with a weird cosmology), the writing is good (with some glaring spelling mistakes), and maybe its best characteristic is having a sense of tension that's hard to escape from. This is a dark universe, and it doesn't like you, and the characters are flawed and you shouldn't like many of them. But I have to recommend against investing time in this game since it suffers from a flaw (an avoidable one, I would argue) that completely ruins its sense of immersion, and it's very common in indie visual novels. There are one or two points in this game where, if you are not preparing for an event with highly particular statistics in mind ahead of time, a sort of doom spiral happens that makes many, many previous choices into very obvious sunk costs. I won't spoil it because there's still decent writing in these moments, but it begs a question with an awkward solution: if you all but have to use a guide to prepare for these moments, you mind as well use a guide, and if you're going to use a guide on a visual novel for a specific sort of end you have in mind, couldn't you just watch someone play it online or something? Your sense of agency takes a major hit with moments like this and it's really disappointing.

A great narrative-driven game with good writing, soundtrack, and art style. Also interesting world-building. Despite an overall good impression, I have to state that it is not a "choose your own adventure" type of game, but rather "calculate your adventure". Despite seemingly branching paths, the game is still heavily decided by the numbers you get during your playthrough. I suggest playing once for yourself to get into the game's world and mechanics, and then use guides to read through a great, interesting, and compelling story where everything was already calculated accordingly by other players. Basically, you have 3 main paths and 2 sub paths for each of them. Hope the next entry will depend on numbers a bit less.
Очень хорошая игра.
