The Last Door: Season 2 - Collector's Edition

Solid game just as the last series. I can see some rushing of development with the last episode, given the hype around the concept of the "Last Door", however, the puzzles are intuitive and very nice. I like the effort put into the game story and the atmosphere it conveys. It not only represents well this period in history, but even the way medicine, especially psychiatry is depicted, not very glittery. The story is neatly packed, however at the end it did get me confused on how Devitt's role intersects with Du Pre's intentions and how the whole thing becomes adversarial and what not.

This game is a letdown. My review will consider The Last Door Season 2 as a sequel to the first season and not a stand-alone game. Graphically, it's the same as TL1, but slightly better. Just a little bit. The art style is good, but the graphics just can't deliver it, unfortunately. I'd like to talk about the two things that makes this game a letdown. First: The imagery. It's weak, very weak. You have the basic, shadow humanoid monsters, huge eyes, crows, fog, and that's basically it. That's acceptable for the first game, where you're being introduced to this world, but here that's all we get? Something a child would think it's scary? This kind of horror works perfectly in books, from which the devs seems to have took a lot of inspiration from, since you have to imagine everything and the horror is as scary as your imagination allows. But this is not a book, this is a game, the visuals should have been a key aspect of the experience, but again, unfortunately, the limitations of what the devs could do didn't allow them to deliver a truly scary and unsettling experience. Second: The story. It's okay at best. You have a cult trying to go to a dark magical world. This also works in the first game which was introducing everything, but here? it doesn't go that far. You're looking for Devitt, then you discover more about the cult and then you decide to put an end to it. As i said, it's okay, not bad nor good, just okay. The ending is nothing great as well. I think the devs wanted to do something big, but didn't have the experience or resources to realize it. Well, at least Blasphemous actually delivers the imagery this game lacks. Not recommended because this is an okay game on it's own and a horrible sequel.
