The Black Watchmen

Can't play the game without a Facebook account. Yeah that's a hard no.

An interesting and unique game with lots of ways to research and obtain info. It does give you the option to have higher levels of gameplay but they require more of your personal info so not for me. Still there is lots to do and sometimes can be a bit difficult. Overall a fun game which makes you sort of feel like your an agent.

I tried coming back to this game after while, and was immediately reminded why I never finished. The game is fine but everything else is too volatile. For instance, one of the first missions in the game stopped working after I put in a code wrong(on an external site). I had to reset my cache and cookies in my browser to get it all working again, only for it to happen again on another step later on. Then, thanks to me resetting my cache and cookies, the archive, the main thing the game is based around, stopped working too. After trying for 10 minutes to get it to work again, I'm giving up on this game, again. 0/10, go play a different game because the devs don't seem to care about this one.

the devs recently refreshed this game for 2025 so i'm replaying. anyone who had difficulties previously should give it another shot.

※未クリア。 　第1章の時点で難しすぎて積みそうです。 　購入を検討されている好事家のために、大まかに書き残しておきます。 　結論から言うと、言語等の壁がとてつもなく高いです。 [hr][/hr] [h1][b]概要[/b][/h1] 『The Black Watchmen』（諜報機関のような組織？）の一員となり、様々な事件の調査を行う……という設定の、謎解き（？）ゲーム。 ストアページの説明文に記載されている通り、ARG（Alternate Reality Game／代替現実ゲーム）であるため、「ゲーム内で登場する企業のWebサイト」「関連人物のFacebookアカウント」等が用意されています。 これらの調査が要求されるため、パズルや謎解きというよりは、OSINT（Open Source Intelligence／公開情報の調査・分析）の性質が強いゲームであるように感じました。 [h1][b]ゲームプレイについて[/b][/h1] （少なくとも自分がプレイした範囲は）ミッションが与えられ、テキストボックスに解答を入力していく形式。 [quote] Q：手紙に隠された暗号メッセージを答えよ　（手紙の画像が添付されている） A：＊＊＊＊＊＊　（テキストボックスに入力する） [/quote] といったような感じです [b][u]言語などの違いのせいで、攻略はかなり難しく感じました[/u][/b]。 「何が何でも独力でクリアしてやる！」と息巻く方にはオススメできません。 ですが、詰まったときに攻略を見て（自分が全く見当違いの調査をしていた、方向性自体は間違っていなかった、等の参考にして）楽しむことに抵抗がないのであれば、意外と悪くないゲームかなと思います。 [h1][b]謎解き？　の一例[/b][/h1] ・[b]約3分の英会話（字幕なし）から、研究の課題点となっているキーワードを聞き取って打ち込む必要がある[/b] [quote] おそらくキーワードと思われる用語のスペルが全く分からなかったため、自分はWindows 11のライブキャプションで文字起こしして攻略しました。 （この会話に関しては話者1人かつノイズ無であったためどうにかなりましたが、今後より複雑な音声に対して同じことを要求された場合、自分にはクリアできる気がしません……） [/quote] ・[b]一部のメールアドレスに対して、実際にメールする必要がある[/b] [quote] 一部の場面ではテンプレートが用意されるのですが、テンプレート無しでメールしなければならない場面もありました。 　（この場合、中身は適当で、とにかくメールするだけで良さそうでした） [/quote] ・[b]画像の中に映っているモノに関する情報が必要だが、これが何が全く分からない[/b] [quote] 攻略を見てみたところ、海外で有名なお菓子だったらしいです。それは分からん。 [/quote] ・[b]不明瞭な会話の音声ファイルに対して、ある方法で加工することで聞き取れるようになるが、加工後の内容は英語じゃなく別の言語だった[/b]（NEW！） [quote] （いや、これに関しては英語ネイティブの人でも難しすぎやしませんか……） [/quote] ・[b]短縮リンク（Google Mapのストリートビュー）から回答を得る問題で、作中の事件が2015年であったから律儀に2015年前後の画像を参照しようとすると、答えが見つからない[/b]（NEW！） [quote] （なんで事件後に建てられた建物が答えなんや……って思ったら、数年前までの問題ストリートビュー位置と回答内容から少し変更されたらしい） [/quote] 等々、国や言語が違うため、どうしても答えが見つかりづらい箇所が多々ありました。 興味のある方は是非試してみてください。

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I love Alice and Smith games! Puzzles, Cryptology, Detective work and a ♥♥♥♥ tonne of googling. A game that, while playing, you start to ask "is this a game?" Absolutely love it!

Not the typical ARG, I found myself being drawn, addicted to this game. Spent hours on another account and I felt like a special agent during my sessions. Each case is very well made, loved every compaign and the whole Lovecraft universe was so entertaining (Rosenberg, when I catch you). I've made it until the DLC "Alone in the Dark Web", so I'm quite proud of my rank :D ("Mother of Russia" made me want to plug every hair I had on my big head). I want to thank you Alice&Smith Studio for making this game, it has been an incredible journey even if I sacrificed evey last neurons cells I had on it, it was all worth it. Plus I acquired so much knowledge and skills thanks to this game, truly I can't recommend it enough. (PS : The soundtrack is still creeping me out to this day, it's haunting my nights. AND I STILL WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME OMG). It's kinda sad this game and its community are not that active anymore, again thank you so much A&S ♥

Don't bother this is guess what I'm thinking game - minor spoiler - One of the puzzles that a secret agent is asked to guess what state a substance is from a letter....yes that's why you spend millions training your agents to find out the form of subtances and then leave. Another had a top of the line PHD holder use just a single word as a password - research facilities don't allow them to use that through their web functions even if they wanted to it didn't make sense. - spoiler /end - Plus some 'puzzles' require website access and those websites always got flagged in my browser as unsafe and not updated so it wasn't really worth digging into everything in it. This was probably better off if the simulator was done in game where they would have better control over the game itself rather than leave it to webmasters to outdo. All of the above could be because the game is 10 years old but that is the status today as i found it as of the date of writing this review. Edited to fix a few words
