Una delicia
Season 2 mostly confirmed what I liked about The Last Door in the first place: the story is strong, the atmosphere works best when it is letting you slowly uncover buried truths, and the game is at its best when you are connecting the dots yourself. The big improvement over Season 1 is that this one at least gives you more control over resolution, which helps a lot. It does not completely solve the visual limitations of the AGI-inspired style on a modern display, but it is a noticeable step up simply because you have options. Unfortunately, I still think the audio design is a weak point. I understand what the developers were trying to do with sound-driven horror, but the sample quality and lack of proper control still made it feel more clumsy than immersive for me, especially on speakers. My biggest disappointment was the ending structure. Writing two endings that are almost identical except for who survives did not feel bold or meaningful. It felt more like a token gesture than a genuinely different payoff, and I do not think the character attachment was strong enough to make that choice land. Even with those issues, I still recommend Season 2. The narrative pull is real, and if you liked Season 1 for the mystery and slow revelation, this delivers more of that while being a little less annoying on the technical side.
Solid game just as the last series. I can see some rushing of development with the last episode, given the hype around the concept of the "Last Door", however, the puzzles are intuitive and very nice. I like the effort put into the game story and the atmosphere it conveys. It not only represents well this period in history, but even the way medicine, especially psychiatry is depicted, not very glittery. The story is neatly packed, however at the end it did get me confused on how Devitt's role intersects with Du Pre's intentions and how the whole thing becomes adversarial and what not.
Nice, creepy game
