About
Lured in by shared nightmares, madmen travel to a remote island crowned by a silent Tower. No one remembers the journey.
The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is an open world RPG built around exploration and connection. You learn the land by walking it, following rumors, reading scraps of burned history, and meeting lost souls who wandered to the ends of the Earth, following the same feverish dream of a light buried beneath the Tower.
Somewhere in the depths is a theater with an empty stage, waiting for an audience. As you repair or ruin the lives of the island's inhabitants, the phantoms they leave behind take their seats in the audience. The more seats you fill, the more the island listens, and the greater the applause for your final act.
And if you don’t want to descend alone, you don’t have to. The entire game is fully playable in co-op: explore the island together, delve into the depths for treasures, and make the choices that will decide the fate of everyone on the island, and beyond...
A wild, ancient island to explore
Follow leads, find shortcuts into the Tower, stumble into side stories, and piece together what is real and what is mere delusion.
Open Ended
Most quests have multiple resolutions. Mercy, violence, compromise, deceit.
A large cast of bizarre characters
Many strange folk find their home on the island. A giant toad learning to read. An ancient skeleton who just wants to swim. A musician from a faraway land hunts for something precious. Everyone has a theory for why you’re here. None of them agree.
The Amphitheater
Your choices change the world. Treat others with kindness and generosity, and a trusted friend will take their seat in your audience. Fail or abuse them, and something darker takes their place. The House fills either way.
Visceral Combat with multiple weapon types
Punchy combat against strange horrors
Full co-op
Play the whole game together. Explore the world, share the spoils, and decide who you will become, because the consequences belong to all of you.
The Tower does not call the whole. It calls the broken, the wanting.
Fill the seats. Start the performance. Find out what is buried at the bottom of the well.

"♥♥♥♥ YOU TODD HOWARD"
Vali does not normally like to review games because its alot of work but in laughless saint.. You are virtually reliving your open world RPG experience. Remember the first time you played an elder scrolls game and how excited you were to explore and find stuff! That's this- we even have a Discord just look up NerveLabs and everyone is very nice there and the devs are extremely attentive and they do so many things- but they also have a great balance to not just give every little thing the player base wants- but definitely gives what they need. They also deeply consider the whims of the player base as well.. Laughless saint follows the Holy Fool origin of lore and emerses your own character into that. It's also an OPEN WORLD DARK FANTASY RPG WITH ALL THESE THINGS AND CAN CO-OP CURRENTLY UP TO SIX FREAKING PLAYERS!!! If that isn't a reason to get this game Vali does NOT know what is.. Updates are so frequent because the game is huge, it's getting even bigger- they keep adding more and more to the map and little extras.. Vali really can't say enough that is great about this game- well developed, great story, perfect immersion, there's so much to love about this game and when Holy Fool the sequel comes out.. oooh vali is getting it too. She's getting it all- if they keep this up this is Vali's new series to play. With how toxic ES development has gotten lately and how ugly even it's online roleplay servers have become we need something new like this and UGH just buy the game- 20 dollars? What you're going to buy groceries? Skip it and buy the damn game you can starve a few days. 🩷🩷🩷 Hee, enjoy! Valinyan

I do enjoy this game, the old school mechanics are great and ran perfectly minus the shop issue! Unfortunately the recent "hotfixs" have completely ruined the performance with no tangible gain.
10/10, entered end game dungeon at level 1 and can't get out. GG
Ah, *Lantern of the Laughing Saint*. There’s a story, a deep and dark one. But... unfortunately for the island, I’m just a bear. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen: your dreams of playing as a claw-swiping, non-sneaking man-bear. (No peg yet.) I saw that the bears start with **-20 Stealth**. And I was happy to discover that the stat boosts for leveling are still awarded on level-up even if there is a negative value. This means I now potentially have the ability to get **120 sneaks worth of +1 Stam and +2 Health.** This pleased me. As the person who enjoyed breaking alchemy in TES games, I was happy to see that, even with a mere six hours, I saw the potential for long-term shenanigans and OPness. She’s a work in progress, the game. The devs are updating the game like it’s a LIVE FEED. Indie devs! So there’s no investors snorting down their necks. If they piss us off, their dream is SOL. So they are putting work into their product. It’s ugly. So what? I don’t care. So many games nowadays focus on looking good and not working. This game works. There are bugs to exploit, and it feels... the poor graphics add to the lovability of the game, okay? My poorly dressed, fungal-rib-wearing blob of a bear was hilarious to watch stalk a snail. It’s **ugly-good**, okay. If it looked pretty, it would be a different game and have a different feel. So the vibe stays, IMO. Grab this Scrolls-lite RPG sandbox and have fun. Fart around, die, explore, die, realize you didn’t save, cry, and enjoy. There are no quest markers, so buckle up, buckaroo. You’re in for some hiking. Which is fine—the map’s strange, sprawling, and fun. So it’s fine. lol. I like it. I didn’t ask for a refund. So far, so good, Chooms.
unoptimized slop.
Looks like the devs were tired of waiting for a proper spiritual successor to Morrowind and took up the challenge themselves. And so far I'd say they've nailed it, with their own unique vision in mind. Lage handcrafted world with attention to detail, there are voiced characters and communities scattered, I love the alien and strange quirks it has throughout, and the combat is typical. I'm pretty invested, cant wait to see more. May be too early to tell, but I'm putting this one in my favorites for those reasons (Morrowind!). Side Note: the Calyx race has digitigrade hindlimbs, just like the khajiit in Morrowind, a feature that Bethesda should've kept in later titles! Very cool to see.
This game feels like a fever dream in all the right ways, like getting chased down by buff land crabs that punch you and vulture gorillas that chase you like ashton hall. 10/10 please play in all it's early access glory
I don't often write reviews, if ever, but since this feels like a passion project and a small, if not solo dev, I believe it's worth speaking about it. It's a good game if you've enjoyed Morrowind in its early days. Exploring new lands, gathering ingredients, questing, it's all there and it seems the developer is still eager to update their game, which is very nice to see. The world itself seems decently crafted, in the sense that you can't "It just works™" yourself up a cliffside. What struck me as absolutely amazing is that you can find and get items that feel like cheating, almost as if becoming a god of the isle, yourself. I believe it can still use some polish, absolutely. Some voice lines aren't cut right, sometimes a quest doesn't complete or advance, hitboxes that are a bit off, small things that, I'm sure, will be addressed in a future update. Nothing too game breaking or annoying has happened so far, and with a quicksave/load, you're well on your way. The console commands also are reminiscent of the ones used in the TES games, which makes debugging and just fooling around in-game rather fun and easy. There's an extensive skilling system, as we had in TES games, it's nice to "learn" your playstyle or fighting style and have it reflect in your skills growing. One mechanic, the fact that your HP, Stamina and Mana increase based on the skills you improve, is something I find absolutely amazing. A character focused on melee fighting will see their HP and stamina increase much more than their mana. I feel/hope we can expect much from NerveLabs, that things will be added and improved over time. I wish them the success that Bethesda has, with the love for their games Bethesda had. For doubters: If you enjoy a good RPG like the TES games, I'd definitely check it out, it's one worth keeping in your library, to revisit from time to time and see how the game evolves. It's been a good while since we've had a decent RPG of this caliber.
